Ah, some more choice wank from that crazy little fandom we know as Harry Potter...
Over on Mugglenet.com, a news story about Mira Nair being offered the directors chair for Order of the Phoenix and having to think about it has spawned two SEPERATE wank streams.
First off, we have the group that are "OMG!!!!!!!!! HOW CAN SHE NOT
WANT TO DEVOTE HER LIFE TO HARRY POTTER?!?!?!!!!111!!" and wank about
how if she needs to think about it, they don't want her directing the movie.

I'm not sure I would want someone who has to "think" about it
to direct OOTP. I want someone who WANTS(!!!!!) to direct it. If it takes
her this long to decide, how long will it take her to film one setup. Naw
I hope they offer it to someone who really wants it.

I think she sounds snobby. I agree with the others that posted: WB should
get someone who wants to direct it. Not someone who has to decide whether
it will be could enough for them. All three movies have done really well
and I am sure the fourth one will be no different.
And I didn't like Vanity Fair. So that might also be why I think WB should look for someone else.

If she isn't sure she wants to devote 2 years to HP then she shouldn't
do it. She probably hasn't even read the books.

She's crazy, who wouldn't want to do harry potter? Get a lot of money.
I hope she says no; I don't want her to say 'yes' because she won't really
put any determination in it, most likely. which will make the movie suck.
Then we get into the real meat of the wank here. It stems from the fact
that Mugglenet staffer, Emerson, used a rather witty comment from "The
Daily Show" to specify that Nair was India indian and not Native American
Indian.
From Emersons Post:Nair "weighing and wondering" whether to do OOTP movie
From a Straits Times interview with Indian (Gandhi, not Sitting Bull) filmmaker Mira Nair:
It seems that the some of the fans get riled up, and call Emerson racist
for using that remark, while others jump in telling people to calm down
and get over it.

SHAME ON YOU, MUGGLENET!
It's bad enough that you "mark" Nair's ethnicity by calling her "Indian," but then you further qualify it with "Ghandi, not Sitting Bull." What century are we living in? Whether Nair is white, black, red, yellow, brown or green -- WHO CARES?
Net time you refer to Mike Newell, I hope you will call him "White Male Director Mike Newell." If you;re going to discriminate, please do so even-handedly.

Whoa, Sirius Bloke. Calm down. No one was marking anyone. I'm Indian. Do
I feel offended when my friends introduce me to their camp friends "This
is Izz. She goes to my school. She's Indian."? No! CALM DOWN.
Anyways, I think it would be really cool if she directed, as Akasha said, seeing a different perspective is good, and not to be sexist, but you can't help but admit we females think a little differently sometimes. Which would be interesting. I just don't know how anyone can have second thoughts about doing Harry Potter, despite the fact it is a huge feat to pull off. People have such high standards these days.

Should posts like the above be allowed? I mean, I didn't see the above
person criticising Mugglenet for calling Alfonso Curaon "Mexican".
Which they did about 1000 times. By your standards, that is also racism.
They referred to the actress who will play Fleur(I forget her name) as
"French" - that must be racism as well.
Last I checked, if you were born in India, you are "Indian", just as I am British, because I was born in Britain.
Oh wait sorry, calling myself British must also be racism. I'd better stop before someone bans me for being racist towards myself...

rather than generalizing indian's by ghandi and sitting bull, putting native american or east asian would be more appropriate-don't you think?
i am a bit offended to think that people would only know my culture by sitting bull...
Posted by: Sirius Bloke
Well, I do think marking ethnicity is a very subtle form of racism, but that's really beside the point. I think that "Ghandi, not Sitting Bull" is degrading, even if Ghandi and Sitting Bull are heroes in their own culture.
Think about it -- Do we say "British (Winston Churchill) director"
Mike Newell" or "American (Babe Ruth) director Chris Columbus?"
-- no, and I'd bet that their White Maleness has something to do with it.

i am native american and find your sitting bull comment offensive.

Mugglenet, you are tarnishing your wonderful reputation with silly and insensitive comments like "Gandhi, not Sitting Bull". I find the comment highly offensive. It can't hurt you to be a bit more mature in posting news.
I am not indian myself, and still feel that the comment was way out of line.

I found it wierd how MOST of the people who find these comments offensive are people who are not from that nationality. I'm indian and I don't find it offensive...Then again I'm used to brown jokes...lol

I'm kind of schocked at the Indian comment that Emerson posted. It has really lowerd him in my eyes. It was way out of line.

you guys are all idiots. that running bull joke is tasteless. the person who used the Babe Ruth/winston churchill analogy said it perfectly. If you guys said black director and wrote (Oprah), you'd get hate mail from half the NAACP. so shut the hell up.
and who cares if Nair said she doesn't want to give up 2 years of her life. big deal, jk rowling takes tons of time off, you guys don't baby about that.
And then some bonus mind boggling from the department of "Omg, you
have got to be kidding me......"

isn't gandi like someone in like asia or africa somting like that i know ive heard the name somwhere just cant put my finger on it...

what does the sitting bull mean?
Posted by: zack
gandi is dead and i kno he wasent liven in canada thats all i kno
And to think, these are just from the first page or so of comments....I got too scared to venture much further.
