Potterwank ... it's the wank that keeps on wanking
Remember the pottersginny wank?

Pottersginny likes to hang out at Gryffindor Tower, also recently wanked.

Ebony publically challenges GT on what she feels was their lack of action regarding pottersginny with such gems as: "When individuals who work for corporations are proven to have behaved in a sexist, racist, and/or heterosexist manner, said corporation almost always attempts to make gestures of conciliation not only towards those on the inside, but outward to the offended parties/community. These gestures should occur almost immediately. If you have mud on your blouse, who cares if you were rolling around with the pigs, or if you were splattered by chance as you passed by? ... This does not only apply to the corporate world. It ought to apply to the fandom's most popular sites."

RunechildUK responds to this by utilizing the time honored technique of pointing fingers back at the accuser: "I have come to the conclusion that the only thing that would satisfy her conditions is for a representative of the Gryffindor Tower administration to make a grovelling apology on Fiction Alley Park. I have news for you dear; it’s never going to happen. If it were the case throughout the fandom that the administrative staff had to make a public apology and disassociate themselves from the individual in question on the boards of the affected site, the Fiction Alley administrators would spend more time on our boards than they do on their own."

Naturally, there is more fun to be had in comments.

{ETA: RunechildUK deleted their journal within less than two minutes of this post appearing on f_w. That may be a new f_w record. But more wank can be found here regarding said post.}

Um, I thought they DID what she said? In regards to Potterginny. The other thing I havent seen anything about a retraction of. Confused.

Also in regards to Nimbus'03... Most fan cons Ive been to, or know of are aprox 50-60-at most (USdollars). How is US$200 comprable to that?

Well, there are more expensive cons out there; most SF and anime cons are now charging $50-$100 at door.

I did some checking, out of curiosity (a very good online friend of mine is going to Nimbus and I really wanted to meet her--but couldn't afford the prereg) and the only North American non-media convention this year with a higher cost than Nimbus was...Torcon, which incidentally is this year's Worldcon.

I told her that I may be able to make Ohayocon next year, instead.

Still 50-100 at teh door is 1/2 or 1/4 of their at dor price- and tehir lowest pre-reg price is still higher than that- I really don't understand them calling it comprable.(does that count as a mini wank? pay $200 for our con - its comprable to all the rest<even if it is 2* the price!) I wish they had a more affordable Harry Potter con, one that more fans could afford, although the price tag may keep potterginny away... thoat could be agood thing- I mean imagine the horror at teh panels, wouldn't be much of a disscusion once she showed up, as I can see it turning it to a big religious battle. Someone argued in an article I read today that Harry Potter actually did far more for adult reading levels than childrens, which was kind of amusing, esp as they based this on their nephew? deciding no other book could be better and refusing to read anythign else, which is silly for a 12? year old because at that age there are plenty of books equally good or better. I'm not sure there's much point comparing Nimbus to any other con. It's an academic conference and a fan convention rolled into one. Doesn't mean there's no room for a pure fan con, though -- why not organise one yourself instead of posting about how you don't like what's been organised?

[Disclaimer (hey, wow, my second today): Yeah, I'm involved in Nimbus. And?]

So, what, my employer's responsible because some lackwit customer went off and attacked the security guard in the payment center?

Thus, would that make Slashdot responsible for the trolls with accounts?

Which leads to the conclusion that Fiction Alley is responsible for all its 15,000+ message board users, some of which probably think a mod is something you do to your car.

::thinks the HP fandom should be read at +2 moderation::

Okay I understand the plea for kindness and understanding, but the hell?

Does that mean that if you stand next to a racist you somehow become a racist?

Since I posted snarky comments on PottersGinny's journal does that mean that I must be a religous fanatic too?

I read it more as "if you stand next to a racist and don't react negatively to their racism, then you are indirectly contributing to racism". I see her point there.

[Obligatory disclaimer: Ebony's a friend of mine. FWIW. YMMV. HAND.]

I think -- no really, hear me out -- I get it now! All of HP fandom: Inner Circle, t00bs, plebes, intellislashers, pottersginny -- all of them, are one giant RPG. Right? GM-ed by JK Rowling herself, with full knowledge of what everybody's up to. The books? Pfah. They're just source material. Supporting text. The fact that non players are buying them and spending money on the films and toys and other such, just as if it was really intended to be entertainment by itself? Has everybody in stitches, Rowling most of all.

Right? Come on guys, y'all can tell me. I've written a whole half an HP story; that should let me in on the game, right? Right?

Sigh. Am obviously still in the Outer Circle of nonplayers to whom everything must be denied even if they guess right.

Is it okay if I vomit now? But despite the one love, one fandom-ness of it all, I think I've come across some of the best lines, ever!

You can leave a hippogriff to water, but when even sweet-talking doesn't make him drink, I say back the heck up. Spoken like a true HP Geek. Sooo geeky. So geeky.

For example, I am friends with and greatly admire heidi8 because over the past three years, I have seen her fruit. Haven't we all?

I, however, would stay away from her mangos. I hear they're spiked with psychotropic drugs. *g*

Hee! This was the bit that killed me too. I have a stomachache from laughing so hard.

Beware the mangoes!
