(first post, and all that)
Over in HP fandom, an author, Risti, tries to submit a story to the SugarQuill, and is somewhat disgruntled when turned down. That would be minor, had that been the end of it.

But, of course, that's not the end of it-[info]narcissam decides to take up the cause, and the real fun begins.

I always wanted to have a R/Hr break up story archived at SQ. This wank may prove it's impossible. Well, whatever.

*insert big rant about why SQ makes me ashamed that I'm a R/Hr shipper*

Is anyone else annoyed by the SQ slang with "CRAX" and "SOX" and all that? Jesus motherfucking Christ. I'd rather they spoke 1337. Really.

The sugarquill and it's denizens are by far the oddest group of people I have ever come across - the mods there in particular have chips on their shoulders larger than Jennifer Aniston's chin - read the execrable After the End and weep! It actually sounds like they and Risti truly deserve each other. It is a great pity her story was turned down as I am sure she would have fitted in really well.

I'm confused. They want authors to have their fics beta'd before submission but willing to have them rebeta'd by SQ? If any suggestion of Riceian arrogance results in a rejected fic, they're missing out on a hell of a lot of good fics - most fic-writers aren't celebrated for their humility. And - ha! Since when is SQ a lit-mag?

Also, while I understand that SQ is a ship-specific site, it seems a little bizarre to reject fic on the basis that it questions the core-ship, but eventually reaffirms its strength and validity. It seems to me those are exactly the kind of stories that SQ should be looking for. They'll strengthen the shippy convictions of site readers and are useful in fanwars. For example: "H/Hr is so wrong! Risti's fic "X" disproves it in such-and-such a way." Ship wars are usually so irrational that fic is taken to be evidence, soo...

I've been in this fandom for two and a half years, and I've finally been wanked(caused wank?)

I suppose I can retire now knowing that I've truly accomplished everything there is to do in this fandom.

Seriously though, for the record? I've stopped taking this personally at all. I'm amused that a response I took time to make sure was fairly polite was responded to by a drunken mod. I'm amused at the amount of comments NM's second thread has generated while I've been at work(which I haven't even read through completely). I'm amused that you think I should be mad at NM for writing a post I was sitting next to her as she composed(I posted a similiar one at the same time. She's the one with the larger flist.) Mainly, I'm just really amused that this made it up here.

For the record, I've never been to the Sugar Quill, and I'm not into the HP fandom (other than just reading the books/seeing the films, etc.).

It just sort of sucks that they don't actually tell you why the story was rejected- just a "Sorry, you didn't win the new Sorny Walkman, DRINK SPRITE!"-type message. That's actually all I wanted to say- major suckitude. Okay, I'm done.

I want to start a project- "Night of 100 Rejects". In which 100 people write a bog-standard fanfiction and get them all rejected from the Sugar Quill. Then, I'll post the 100 fanfictions on my website. Not out of protest or anything- I just really like bad fanfiction.

What initially drew me to the Sugar Quill was its reputation as a high-quality archive

Yeah, it had the reputation of being the one of the most prestigious girls-schools in the city, but in reality, we were a bunch of stupid whores, and a pack of monkeys on crack would have been better teachers than the ones hired there.

I'm not in the HP fandom so my only real knowledge of it comes from reading fandom wank, which I do sporadically. I've been looking at the posts and comments and everything. I even read the SQ submission rules. This site, Sugar Quill, it's like a creative writing support group, yes? One submits one's fic, and if they have the time and inclination, they offer a beta process. After a while, one gets a sort of GCSE in fanfickery, um, a NEWT? And then it's a sort of free archive. I feel sure I must be missing something here, because I can't see the problem.

So, my question is: If this Risti person had already had her stuff beta-read and nit-picked etc, why did she want the people at SQ to do it? Or not do it? Or something else that escapes me. Waaaah! I am utterly befuddled.

Oh dear, it makes me glad I don't decend too deeply into the circles of HP fandom, I mostly read smut and one shots or the occasional dark fics because I'm an angsty horny wh0re, HP fandom, especially the hardcore fans scare me don't interst me.

I too tried numerous times to get into the nearly inpenetrable site known as SQ. And well, I though a Sirius fic could get in. Make that a negatory.

I thought I'd go ahead and put my work on different sites, since not everyone hangs around FA. But in my experience, SQ isn't worth the trouble. I'll stick to FA, GP, HPFF.com, and even *gasp* ff.net, especially after seeing the mod's post...

I'd actually appreciate it if you didn't post here anymore. I don't know you personally, but dealing with you online is giving me a headache.

That's why. Demoting you was the only way I could keep from calling you names on your Live Journal. I needed a way to let off steam.

You ladies pushed me to do my best. I WANTED to be known as a Quiller because of its prestige within the Internet community. I wanted a drink to celebrate my acceptance! Instead, my beta sent me a real quill with which to write in celebration. I'm proud to point people to the Quill, even having done so today with a student who peeked over my shoulder to see what I was writing. He came back from the media lab ecstatic over what he found!! Any site that causes a 16-year-old male to become excited about READING is worthy of my admiration.

AHHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA
