A newbie enters, bearing the most holy wank...
And seriously doubting anyone will notice or care.

My fandom in Nightmare on Elm Street. It's a very low-level fandom yet to hit the mainstream, but we have splooge a-plenty. A reoccuring debate - right up there with Freddy/Jason slash: Evil or OMG TRUE LOVE! - is whether or not Alice, the rather ineffectual heroine from chapters four and five (Dream Warrior and Dream Child) should have aborted her foetus, though which the Reoccuring Franchise Villian, Freddy gains access to our world and the dreamers in our world, allowing him to kill them.

You see, since fetuses (fetii?) spend so much time dreaming in utero (do they?), he can use BabyJacob's dreams to get into the mass dreaming and kill people. This is the entire plot of Dream Child.

Ayezur posts in a thread about the aforementioned movie, famed for being widely considered the weakest installment. I mean, at least Freddy's Revenge had teh gay.

Alice continued to annoy me, but that's a whole 'nother rant. What had me going "wtfdoesnotcompute" was the fact that not only did Alice refuse to abort Jacob, but she wasn't challenged - was practically PRAISED - for doing so. Okay, assume Freddy can off one person a night. That's some 300 victims! There was no guaruntee that she could beat Freddy - her actions, or lack thereof, were disgusting and irresponsible. If they wanted to use the dream-child shtick, they should have somehow blocked her ability to have an abortion, made it a health risk or somesuch. Or possibly have the "dream child" belong to an uber-religious woman. Sheesh.

There's some back-and-forth, one person disagrees, Ayezur reiterates that it was the bad storytelling that got to her more then anything else.
It's all terribly polite and civil until...

Ayezur, I disagree with every single reply from you in this thread. Off course Alice wants to keep her baby, most women do when they get pregnant for the first time. There are so many reasons why she would refuse abortion. Religion, moral values, because it's Dan's baby too, etc. Would you let someone get in your way of having a child, fuck no. If that isn't the biggest threat in your life what is? Your saying she should sacafice her unborn baby to end Freddy? That would be a bad sacrafice because as we all know Freddy always comes back, that isn't a very good solution, very temporary at best. Plus what happens if she gets pregnant again she would have to handle the problem again. Or would you prefer she abort again and again. Her best bet was what she did in the film and that was to try and take on Freddy again. She has no intention of letting Freddy continue to kill people anyways she is the Dream Master after all, she has a certain responsibility of protecting peoples dreams. A fact she learned in part 4 the hard way. Ayezur I think your take on this is off. You have to face conflict not run away from it.

So quoth DreamWarrior1.

Ayezur is a little upset by the outright attack on her person, not to mention the fact that she'd stated quote clearly, twice, that it was about the bad storytelling.

Who said anything about running? Don't even TRY to turn what she did into some kind of heroic act. Do you really think Freddy would try such a risky maneuver if it wasn't he last/only chance?

And as for aborting again and again... no. But once she was aware of the danger, she should have used birth control or even gotten her tubes tied. Which brings up the question of why the HELL she wasn't using birth control in the frist place, but that only confirms my opinion of her as a stupid, overly-emotional child.

Let's assume that the psuedomystical bullcrap spouted in Dream Master is correct. Alice is now the Dream Master, with the duty and the responsibility of keeping Freddy out - a duty which should supersede all else. When you take responsibility for holding an evil back, nothing can be allowed to jeopordize that duty. Nothing. People DIED - people whom she called friend - and do we ever see even a second of remorse from her, considering her actions led to their deaths? Do we ever see her agonizing over whether to keep it or abort? No. It's just tossed away, because pwecious pwecious Alice can do no wrong.

What a "normal" woman would do (and I happen to think you're wrong, but that's another quibble), has nothing to do with it. By canon, Alice was not normal. She had a responsibility which she failed in the execution of, and not because of any innate inability.

Alice allowed her emotions to interfere with her duty. That disgusts me.

And for the love of all that's yellow and dancing, don't try to make this arguement personal. You will lose.

DreamWarrior1 decides that Ayezur is utterly utterly wrong for suggesting that just maaaaybe Alice had a responsibility, you know? Ayezur gets steadily more pissed as the debate rages on and she finds herself saying the same thing over and over again.

SEE!
Military analogies!
References to bushido!
People accusing people of having no human feeling!
The statement that all women naturally want to have children!

There's ever so much more, but this entry's long enough as is. I do hope I got my tags right and that this is an acceptable wank... it's my first time. *blushes*
