X Files wank
A person new to the xfiles community says: Down with dogget and reyes. Blech. barf.

Commenter replies: "I would remind you that there are many long-term fans here who enjoyed Doggett and Reyes. I'm not the moderator, and it's not my place to tell you what to say or not say here, but I will ask on a personal level if you could respect myself and others who did enjoy their run by using less provocative language in expressing your disappointment."

Next commenter replies: "We are talking about a TV show, are we not? He said they said they hated charactors on a show, nothing more nothing less..."

My favorite: "barf and blech are provocative? gee, i thought those were nice words. now if the poster said, "i fucking hate doggett and reyes," then i might see where someone could get a little defensive.. however, talking like you have a stick up your ass is just boring to some people."

And so on.

Is that all the x files fandom can come up with? I am so disappointed. I remember huge wankworthy shit. This is not a proper successor.

*sniff* My wanktastic fandom, oh, how the mighty have fallen.

People used to mock other posters' miscarriages and spousal deaths back in the day.

Now we're down to "blech" and "barf"? Oh, the humanity.

Well, in the defense of my (still-current) fandom *g*, I must point out that LJ isn't really the main stomping grounds for the hardcore Phile. So the XF LJ community is mainly bratty barbieshippers, with a few other-character fans/sane shippers who've branched into other fandoms but still are involved in XF. The truly-wanktastic XF fights occur on other fora -- like The Haven. It doesn't get as bad as it used to be on ATXF, but they can still get their wank on with the best of them. My usual MO is to point out the really laughable threads in my LJ so my other XF friends can laugh and groan at the Stupid-Arguments-That-Never-End, but the next time I find one, I'll post it here too for your perusal. ;-)

Like, "Hold Me Mommy, I'm A-Skeered of the Bad Iolokus!" which, as you know, is my favorite Haven discussion.

Well, except for the old "Aphrodesia" thread, a.k.a, "The One Where Kristel Lost Her Shit."

BWA! Yes, that's right up there with the "Help me, someone, does this story have any of that ooky Scully/Other or Out-Of-Character Slash (which is also morally reprehensible and gross, but I Know Gay People so I can say that without offending anyone) in it?" threads.

Well, except for the old "Aphrodesia" thread, a.k.a, "The One Where Kristel Lost Her Shit."

*wipes a tear at the memory* Oh, my shining moment in XF flamewars. And hey, that's how I met you! Heheheheh.

It was a beautiful thing. I'd never been mistaken for a sock puppet before.

And yes, it brought us together. "Misty watercolored mem'ries..."

Oh, I forgot to mention: another reason the XF flamewars aren't as vicious as they used to be is that most of the participants have moved on...to Smallville, from the looks of things. ;-)

::Yawn::

Poor XF. We used to have such fabulous flamewars back in the heyday of ATXC. And now we're reduced to arguing over "barf and blech" which sounds more like a Mad Magazine joke than a provocative insult. But people are still defensive over the Dogshit War of 2001 and it's a wound that never heals. ;-)

Plus, Deslea always has to defend the secondary characters, no matter what. It's in her contract, I think. *g*

Hey, we had to sign that Secondary-Character Defense contract in *blood*, I'll have you know. Slacking off carries a severe punishment.

Man, I knew those contracts were tough, but in blood! Wow!

I got off easy by being a Bothist, with occasional Skinnnerista leanings. No blood contracts for me. I just have to put up with tons and tons of schmoopy badfic.

*raises eyebrow*

Surely you're not suggesting that Reyes and Doggett, who were series leads for one season and two seasons respectively, are secondary?

Secondary character wank. It's the wank that never dies. It's kind of like Jesus, in a way. *ducks and runs*

I was calling you out, dude! And you appeared! My work here is done.

::dusts off hands and departs::

P.S. I like Doggett and Reyes, but keep it under your hat. It might get me drummed out of the Barbieshipper circles. *g*

Hee!

My favourite was a comment, quickly deleted, which said (of me), "Little Miss Prim & Proper doesn't want to play."

I seriously need to make that into an icon.

Ah, XF kerfuffles. I remember them well. This is nothing, however, to the flame-wars that used to rage on various mailing lists (anyone remember nick-fixx where BNF used to go up against other BNF's on a regular basis?) and then there was the whole "TermANAL Desires" Zine war that led to the demise of TERMA and various people leaving the fandom forever. Sigh, miss those days.
