More deaf!wank
Over at

fanfic_rants, someone complains about deaf people using it as an excuse for their poor spelling. And all hell breaks loose.

The side-wank about getting a job was basically "Stop being on my side, person who uses deafness as an excuse to be lazy, because you not only make my side look stupid, you make it harder for people on my side to get taken seriously by the hearing world." Dunno how accurate it really is, but it doesn't sound like self-centered whining, as it was being spun by

charabok.

OTOH, I think everybody got it the first, second and third time you made the point, Zanne...

	I gotta agree with Zanne though I find it hard to believe that someone who's deaf would never have watched a movie or read a book. Also if one does have major trouble with spelling and grammar then I don't think they should be posting fics, at least not until they can find a good spell checker and a decent beta. I'm just tired of deaf people (many of whom can actually hear more than I do) using their handicap as an excuse to avoid learning. I'm tired of the stereotyping that they continue to promote, and seeing the looks on people's faces change when they find out I'm deaf. You can see the mental math going on in their eyes "deaf = dumb and illiterate".

And Charabok's friends with someone who decided that I'm her mortal enemy, so that certainly explains a great deal.

I've got a question -

A couple of commentors on that thread were running with the "you're not a member or a watcher of this comm so STFU" line.

Um - I'm not a fanficrants member or a watcher either, I just have the comm bookmarked (I have too much stuff in my flist anyway) and read it whenever I feel like it, and comment when I feel like I've got something to say.

Oh, this wank just hurts my head. It's like a hammer being pounded over and over and over. Wank on all sides, whee.

Zanne had a good point to make, but overdid it just a tad. This was obviously because the issue struck a personal chord, but we all know what happens when someone gets too personal on the Internet. I understand the anger, but stop and take a couple of breaths, yeah?

On the other hand, charabok? Was being an ass. I'm having trouble looking past the "it" thing . . . that's just incredibly rude. Her attitude was crap from the beginning. (Aaand, how surprising, I'm getting the feelin that it had more to do with personal issues than the topic at hand.)

Also, it seems that someone here in f_w is airing hir (:p) own personal issues all over these comments. Please take them elsewhere, kthx.

Did you notice that Zannechaos chuffed someone who had a cousin with 95 percent hearing loss? She says she has a 4 percent hearing left, that means she has 96 hearing loss, a GRAND ONE PERCENT "more" hearing loss. So if she can spell right, other should do, too. Oh, right. Like, there are no hearing ppl with spelling problems.

I prefer "please excuse my spelling, I am deaf" over Zanne's stuff, really.

And it's ironic, that she is not even born deaf. During the most critical phase of learning language as a baby, she was hearing. So the deafs are all too lazy to look the right spelling up? Right! *Sigh*

I wonder, if people know how rare it is, that deaf ppl actually write something like fanfic.
