Last night, VH1 showed a program called "The 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever," chronicling some of the really stupid yet somehow catchy songs that have come out over the years.

People decide to engage in intelligent debate on the subject.

It's not so much one long wank as a collective of people being, um, rather uncivil in their counterarguments.

(Wow, I'd put in "a collective of a number." I am such a member of the Redundant Department of Redundant Redundancies.)

Ahh... Most of them seem to be from the "I have more exclamation points than you!!!!!" school of reasoning... If I'd known I could convince with CAPSLOCK, I'd have spent far less time working on my papers... ;p

Is there a jurisimprudence law about the official forum always being among the worst? (Because (a) the official forum is where anyone looking to post and run goes, and (b) if it's actually a well-run forum, there's little need for alternatives.)

As for the Blender list, it's meant to generate wank, I think. Or maybe just to sound hip by picking on bands that appeal primarily to a white, suburban demographic.

And the saddest part is that I have downloaded the vast majority of them all.

Oh, man. I will defend "Barbie Girl" to the death, y'all. (I will defend "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "She Bangs" to, uh, the stubbed toe.)

Coincidentally, I was browsing Soulseek and found a Kylie Minogue-Sisqo mashup someone had created called... wait for it... "Can't Get You Out of My Thong."

Sounds intriguing. Any chance of sharing, since I can't use WinMX or Soulseek?

Barbie Girl is my anthem.

Other songs that were a major contributing factor to my adolescence: Breakfast at Tiffany's, I'm Too Sexy, and Sunglasses at Night. How could anyone hate those songs?

AQUA LOVE!!!!!

They were the first ever band I truly loved. I still adore them, actually - Lene the lead singer has a solo album out, I really recommnd it. Doesn't sound like Aqua at all really o_O

Mmm. Tasty Music!Wank.

Although I do have to agree that most of The List itself made me go "WTF?!" I mean, half the stuff on there was more Mildly Irritating rather than Awesomely Bad although I'm ever so happy Toby Keith got such a place of honor.

VH1 just lacks creativity these days. I can think of way more awesomely bad stuff than what made the cut.

Did "MacArthur Park" make the list?

Because if it didn't, there really is no justice in the world.

I love quite a few of those! Honestly, I think the Toby Keith addition was purely political, but I dislike "Sunglasses at Night" enough to completely overlook that fact.

(are those full downloads, btw, or just samples?)

I seen that episode way back in July, but most people should have known VH1 and MTV has gone to the trendy set now.

I mean, when's the last time MTV shown a full music video?!

And why is Wang Chung on that list?!

Wait, this is the list that had the "girl, you remind me of my jeep" song? I loved so many of those songs (not the jeep song). But I laughed like a pot-smokin' jackass when I saw the show.

I'm with a lot of people here - I loved most of those songs, and was all "WTF? Awww...Awww awww (ala "BASEketball style") when I saw them listed. My husband went all nuts when he saw it - "Who the hell are these people to say what sucks? Jackasses!" Plus he said a lot more. Hee!

OMGWTF! "I Wanna Sex You Up" is NOT a bad song! (Although I grant you that New Jack City, the movie it came from, is bloody awful.) And neither is "Everybody Have Fun Tonight." So there. XP

Since the city referred to in "We Built This City" was the major city in the area in which I was born and raised, I suspect I am not objective on the matter. That said, Grace Slick is my homegirl and always will be.

I would like to state, for the record, that everyone I knew in high school loved "Informer" until they found out Snow was white. There was also major debate about whether Vanilla Ice was saying "Vanilla Ice, Ice, baby" or "Forever Ice, Ice Baby."

Americans have such a sheltered music industry. No Cheeky Girls, no Fast Food Rockers.

What bothered me about 90% of the segments is that it just featured so-and-so from Blender Magazine reciting the lyrics and saying "That doesn't make sense" or "Okayyyy...." The show was just awful, especially compared to the hallowed 25 Lame.
