Every (good) wank needs a stuffed, mounted and beaded dead pony
I answered a query today about the beaded dead horse which (I know I got almost completely wrong) reminded me about just how much I have forgotten about the origins of our hurtful witty little in-jokes. It's interesting, having been TOSed twice now, how much is forgotten when the records are erased. In a curiously 1984 way, things are mis-represented or changed completely.

It also made me think about our almost internal logic, in-jokes heaped upon in-jokes. For some, who've been present for them all (um yah, I've pretty much been around from the start, whatever. That reminds me, how many people are still around who've been here more or less foreva? Was talking to a friend a few weeks ago who said she'd only joined when we were at Blurty and I was stunned that I didn't know that. So, um, anyone?) it seems so clear, but for most people - who join half way through it must be quite confusing and maybe a bit intimidating. So feel free to ask, as many have done. We're always happy to spread the wank.

Now because this post has got far too meta, here's some nice icon wank (yeah baby!).

Oh, and don't forget the pretty quiz that [info]lasayla made.

Beaded Pony
You are a beaded pony!

Repetitive, yet highly sparkly, you are the result
of an amusing typo.

Unfortunately, you are dead...

I been here since LJ, yo. I just change names every time we change services, for the hell of it. *G*

Ah, I shall always be Hnk. Call it fondness, or stubbornness, or just otherwise forgetting whatevertheheck my name was before and spending days getting frustrated by trying to remember. As you can see, I have a *fantastic* memory.

Weird. I also answered a question about the beaded dead horse today. But I thought someone called it a "bead" horse instead of a "dead" horse, and that's where it came from. But see? It's all blurred together for me (oh, the months that have gone by...), so really, I could have been pulling that out of some other wank (or out of my ass. It's entirely possible).

Anyway, I've been here since LJ as well. *g*

And thanks for the nice icon wank!

Yes, the bead/dead thing started it all. But frankly, I blame the hivemind. All our memories are fractured and stored in tiny little bits in everyone's brain so it takes a combined effort to remember anything accurately. Then of course you have the people who've left, or died so sometimes you never get the whole picture.

*shakes fist* Damn you hivemind!

I think the original typo was "bead a dead horse" (a pretty natural one to make) and then someone ran with it to come up with "stuffed, mounted, and beaded." Frigging cache is gone from google, so I couldn't even try to verify, sadly.

(Lurking since... probably a week or so after the LJ community opened, and still lurking strong.)

Have you tried to see if Archive.org's handy-dandy Wayback Machine has a cache of F_W's old haunts? It's possible it might be somewhere in there.

Nah, it's got nothin'. Probably a combo of anti-spiderinf code in LJ and its clones, and the fact that archive.org's last pass through Blurty was sometime before F_W was there.

Yeah, it usually takes months to get something - and time has not been on our side.

Oh yes, and lurking is fabulous. You lull your enemies into a false sense of security and then when they least expect it, you strike! *grins happily*

Dear God... I wanted to see the wank I really did, but I couldn't take the animated, 'what part of me is pierced' icon.

Huh. Am I the only one NOT disturbed by her icon?

Oh, and noting a comment of yours below...

I shudder to think of where I'd be if one of the people on my friends list hadn't listed a load of responses to the LJ TOSing, from which I was able to glean the whereabouts of our next abode. Probably still lamenting it's demise and kicking small children puppies to release my mocking tension. Le sigh.

I find that funny, because both times I've joined f_w, on Blurty and Journalfen, I stumbled across it by accident.

I've lurked since the LJ days, and was just starting to post comments when the place got TOSsed. I wasn't here from the *very* beginning, but once I got here I took the time to look at past entries and read the ones that sounded interesting. Well, I'm obviously totally new here, but I had heard of your existence from a pal, who used to be a member in the LJ incarnation, but then lost track of y'all after you got TOS'ed.

Heh, thanks! Glad to know some people are enjoying my company. ^^

Then again, I guess this was my sort of place. Before the existence (or at least my knowledge of the existence) of places like Something Awful or The Onion, I was already entertained by things like MSTings of badfic. So I guess it just naturally fit into that category.

*LOL* Well, she has "survived" since the TOSing because she hangs out at places like Portal of Evil and the Train Wreck Syndrome Support Group (which some friends of mine founded), which while not exactly wankery-specific locales, they're certainly the type of place to attract them (We've yet to have any flamefests since we're a pretty small group, but PoE certainly has these moments all the time. Sometimes I'm even tempted to call PoE itself a fandom.). Still, she'll be quite happy to see you all once I let her know how easy it was to get an account (I forget if I already showed her the URL, but I don't think she knows about the code-begging comm, which was how I got this account.).

Anyway, while this thread is still somewhat alive and is still somewhat about the in-jokes, can I ask what brought on the Squidwarts OTP gag? (And its ensuing jokes about OTPs in general.) I love hearing these things - it's almost like folk tales and legends, or something.
