A 6 on the Wank Scale As we all know, the IMDb boards are a sea of splooge. The IMDb boards for Kinsey, however, are the veritable Marianas Trench of wank. Almost from the day the film was announced, conservatives have been lining up to attack what they've assumed will be a glorification of the man they blame for abortion, the Pill, gay rights, AIDS, uppity women, thong underwear and the common cold. Now that Kinsey has finally been released, the wank has spread to the mainstream media, but IMDb is still the center of the whirling vortex. This is but a Whitman's Sampler of some of the choicer bits.* *Yes, there's some wanking from me, but I'm not posting this to Although his posts have all been deleted, scriptstar-1 fired the first salvos, attacking Kinsey as a pedophile, and lambasting Bill "Condom" and Liam "Needsome"--because as we all know, Liam's not getting any. Mmmhmm. On a day when he was definitely off his meds, scriptstar even threatened to steal all of the copies of the film and destroy them. He seemed to have a particular grudge against Peter Saarsgard, who plays the research assistant Kinsey and his wife both sleep with in the film. (Liam boykissing! w00t!) Turns out, not surprisingly, that scriptstar has what trained therapists call "issues": Scriptstar-1 has revealed himself before on different threads. He's the screenwriter who tried to get Sarsgaard to be in his gay-themed autobiographical screenplay, and when Sarsgaard turned it down - because scriptstar-1, as you might guess from his name, couldn't write the menu for a water fountain - scriptstar started this weird love/hate vendetta against Sarsgaard. Scriptstar-1 is a failed writer and is himself gay, and calls Sarsgaard "fag" as a twisted way of keeping himself in the successful actor's life. I had to fap a little myself here, because I do have my priorities Yes, but do we finally get to see the (reportedly huge) Neeson schlong? (Sadly, we don't.) Speaking of Liam, Bon_Jovi_chick is confused, and repeats her question from the ourliam LJ community: Oh Im so confused. I really want to see this film because it stars Liam Neeson. However, I've throries from such people like Judith Reisman saying he was a pervert and a disgusting person. I dont know who to believe. Despite being a Liam fan, I have to put my morals first (I would never watch a film that glorifies a pervert or a molester etc). The question is: would it be a bad film to see this film? I reply, but TheGhostShark puts it a bit more succinctly than I did: Oh no! Liam Neeson is dreamy, but people I've never heard of tell me this movie is bad! Should I believe them, or think for myself? Godwin's Law is repeatedly invoked by those claiming that Kinsey = Dr. Mengele. As the aptly-named A Plague of Losers writes: I think this movie will to Kinsey what Triumph Of The Will was to Hitler. Unnecessarily fawning, and certainly skirting away from anything that goes against his popular perception - in Kinsey's case, as an unbiased yet 'groundbreaking' researcher by avoiding any mention that he faked(or didn't fake) his surveys. What say you? Bill Condon's "objectivity" is questioned by people who are confusing biopics with documentaries: Kinsey, as directed by Bill Condon, is not historical, and leaves out very important facts which ought to have been included. Primarily I refer to the issue of volunteer error, which may have significantly skewed the most controversial, and important, sets of Sexual Behavior in the Human Male's conclusions: those relating to frequency of sexual activity. Volunteers, according to Abraham Maslow and subsequent research confirming his study, are far more likely to have engaged in sex and to be permissive in sexual behavior than the general population. I learned these facts through searching Google; you can too. I cannot believe how firmly Condon must believe this stuff; it is relevant to note that he is an open homosexual and thus Kinsey's research historically validates his own lifestyle. In the Way Too Much Information category, we get this contribution to the discussion from Euroman_23: I have heard that then people either masturbate or have sex, then a loat of blood is pumped from the brain, thereby making one less able to use once mind constructively, and it takes several days for this balance to recover. I haven't had sex for over three years, and last month I stopped masturbating. Not doing anything sexual for all this time, has increased my ability to solve complicated math and chemistry problems emensly (I'm a University Student), which is good :). Futhermore masturbating often made me depressive, so thankfully I stopped doing it :) My case proves, that contrary to that Kinsey and others believes: Sex is not good for everyone. And finally, a comment that sums it all up rather nicely: You know this a pretty ironic subject for a message board. Posting on a message board is lot like masturbation. Neither is necessarily bad but they can both be a poor substitute for real human interaction. |
