I come bearing brightly colored eggs...
...and it's only November!

Over at the www.dvdeastereggs.com forum, film fans get together to discuss those little treasures that are stashed away on DVDs. People discuss the odd bits of documentary footage, or outtakes, or pictures of pets, that can be found if you look hard enough. Pretty much any popular disc has these...

...except for one.

One recent release that was proudly released with NO features of any kind, because it was Too Important A Film. That's right, I'm talking about Mel's Opus.

So over at the board, user "pollywog" asks if there are any eggs on this release. A couple of wags snark about how they'd like to see a blooper reel (interesting thought that - lightning, anyone?). So of course this attracts "dvdjunkie", a member in good standing of the Humorless Tribe, and the wank ensues. Both Albert Einstein and Michael Crichton are invoked (gotta love those science references), the Bible is compared to both Peter Pan and Star Wars, aliens get dragged into it, and so forth. (User "Myk"'s list of prequels and sequels is a special hoot.) Eventually, user "rhuckuz" tries to inject a little chill the fuck out people!, but by then I think it's a bit late.

The really amusing revelation (heh) for me as a DVD fan is that apparently, despite the whole thing about The Film Standing On Its Own, there are plans for "POTC" to be resurrected, er, re-released this coming Easter with - TADA! - Special Features! Much like Jesus himself, you could say.

Enjoy!
