When fans aren't happy, they'll tell you...over and over again.
LotR con mini-wank, thanks to an anon comment on the previous Groban wank.

A thread appeared on the Official Jorn Benzon forum entitled Master of the Rings feedback and apparently people were none to happy with what I take to be a subevent called Autographmania. So unhappy that the thread began on October 26th and the last post was dated for today.

Most of the thread isn't too wanky, merely people talking about how bad the con was as the organizers weren't exactly...organized. The wank begins about page 16 when Georgia comes to the rescue of MotR and tells everyone that they shouldn't be complaining. People aren't pleased by this post. Some try to "politely" tell Georgia why they are complaining while others theorize that "Georgia" is actually an AM spy. One poster even reasons out why she must be a spy and gives her something to tell her "little friends at Autographmania".

Very small wank, but still wanky indeed.

ETA: Thanks, [info]octavia! The AM mods aren't happy. Presto change-o! Where did AM go? Wait a minute. What happened to the LotR AM event?

Wow, those are some damn long posts. That takes some serious dedication right there. Perhaps the most impressive wanker was "Lady Aldariel" (hehe) who managed to switch font colors four times in one post.

Jorn Bezorn is the guy that played Rumiel in LOTR:FOTR, IIRC he is something of an F_W celebrity, at least he got more popularity here then through his actual involvement in the movie.

And apparently is a legend in his own mind too.

"OMG I WAS PART OF ONE OF THE GREATEST CINEMATIC EPICS OF ALL TIME!! I'M FAMOUS!!!"

Me too. Seems his "undying fans" don't seem to realize that. Too much of the "OHGOD I'M TALKING TO SOMEONE WHO WAS IN LOTR" mentality methinks.

(Figwit: LOTR's answer to the "Where's Waldo?" craze.)

Rumil is apparently (don't quote me; I'm not a fan) the brother/companion of some sort to Haldir, and is one of the two blonde ladies Elves pointing arrows at the Fellowship as they enter into Galadriel's forest.

They didn't have speaking parts so they're easy to overlook.

And how does the character having a presence in the book makes the actor not a glorified extra? The only difference the character in the book made to Jorn's movie role was that it got a name other than 'Elf Archer #2'.

I'm sure he's a very nice man. But Peter O'Toole got to play Henry II twice and still can't invade France, y'know?

Christ on a crumpet, I hate it when mice come in here and start getting high and mighty about 'you people'. There's bloody hundreds of us, variety is represented.

well at least it easier to call him Rumil instead of "the one guy who played the elf standing next to haldir"
So much shorter ;-)

[info]ashenmote

And yet, that's exactly what the name means in Adunaic. (In the more succinct elven tongue, it means "Elf Archer #2", of course).

I blame your icon, the wank and the early hour, because when I read your 'you people', I instantly thought "Ewe people? New Zealanders? We have some here?"

For those who don't know, there are a lot of jokes about how New Zealanders screw sheep. It comes from the fact that there are something like 100 sheep per person in NZ. It really does make you wonder how Peter Jackson actually found tracts of land devoid of sheep. Although, you know you wanted the Rohirrim to ride sheep instead of horses.

Actual ratio of sheep to people in NZ, 14 sheep: 1 person. We're just lucky they don't vote (because you know they'd vote National). Incidentally, cattle farming is rapidly overtaking sheep farming in NZ, people will have to go back to making the sheep shagging jokes about Scots and Welsh.

My mum laughs over the sheep when she watches FotR. We lived next to a sheep farm in Tasmania briefly, you get to recognise the tracks they make - like the ones all through Hobbiton in the beginning. Gets her giggling every time.

I am just amazed by the fact that somehow they are unable to grasp the concept of different opinions.
It is that you are either with them or against them, which is rather childish.

And If I see the way some people keep nagging about it and they have outed their critism, I can't blame AM for not replying to them.

Haven't you heard the old saying, 'if you're happy you might tell one friend, if you're not you'll tell ten?' I can't believe AM hasn't tried to bribe them, or at least sent some letters of apology. That's just bad business practice, IMO.

I am more or less suprised by the ammounts of energy they spend each day to repeat their MotR mantra's.

But than again we are talking about LotR fandom here and most of them are not the brightest crayons in the box. They thought it would blow over soon. but than again these are very dedicated "fans"

And here in Australia the government is with him, the people are against him and although some of the armed forces have gone to Iraq, they bitched about it and were not good little minions. Thus we are too complicated and he avoids mentioning us at any point.

Actually the really fun part was where, just after the con, critic started flowing in on AM's messageboards, and the AM admins instead of reacting somewhat rationally, mouthed everybody off and eventually banned the whole lot, until both their sites went 'down' with a 'traffic overload' message that was misspelled. While, oops, the messageboards on the same domain were still functioning. One of the guests, Lawrence Makoare, even left a furious message, saying he'd inform every potential future guest not to get involved with them. Eventually the AM-sites claimed database errors, AM deleted everything on the debacle, turned off their phones and postponed 'til further notice their next upcoming Rings-event in the US. Now there's no trace at all of there ever having been a Master of the Ring event on their site. Now that was wanky.

Ah well, it's all water under the bridge now, but it was fascinating to watch the AM-people try their utmost not to take any of the blame for totally screwing up.

Don't be...
I am just amused by it as in the end nothing much changed and it remained insane as hell.
If they had acted more sane in the beginning and had organised themselves a bit better they would have had a lot more impact. But now it remains unorganised as hell and really misses the point and the impact they so badly want to have.

But at least emotions are settling down a bit.. So onwards to another wank..
