Spoiler wank in LJ's pgsm
[info]djranmas posts in LJ's live-action Sailor Moon community about just having finished the series recently, and in the process reveals something big that happens in the third-to-last episode of the show (spoiler warning for that link). People complain. People complain about people complaining. Etc. [info]djranmas makes a new post wherein he insists that spoilers are the way of life and that people complaining about it are "bantering to the masses", or something.

A neat wank to top off all the newbie wank that's been going on in the comm for a while.

I think that cutting spoilers is common courtesy. I mean, even Fullmetal Alchemist fans know to do it! Fucking Fullmetal Alchemist fans, whose collective wank could power Los Angeles for a year!

(Though of course, then we wank about how to label posts containing cut spoilers, but at least we cut them.)

I haven't been following the live-action Sailor Moon, but as someone who came into FMA fandom when episodes in the twenties or so were airing, I definitely appreciated that people cut their spoilers. Now the show is over in Japan, yeah, but we still have people who are new to it, or people who have been watching subs but still haven't been able to finish, stuff like that...just because the show has ended, that doesn't mean that all the fans will suddenly and miraculously be finished with it.

(Actually, I'm impressed with [info]fm_alchemist right now. After the initial wanking among old members about how to handle the newbie influx, I haven't really seen anything bad lately. Oldbies are cutting their spoilers, most of the newbies are quite pleasant...could the fandom be...GROWING UP? o_O)

I actually disagree with this as a general rule. I think for some people, spoiler-seeking is their main fannish enjoyment, and they like to talk about it on their LJs, and it's not "discourteous" or "disrespectful" to enjoy fandom in that particular way. You can always not read their LJs.

However, if it's part of a community's rules to cut tag spoilers, then it is disrespectful to not comply.

That said, both sides piss me off. Spoilers don't tend to bother me but I think a certain restraint is called for. It's only courteous. When you are spoiled, though, a shit hemhorrage is not necessary. It really, really is not the end of the world, not like...SPOILER

That part really made me go "WTF?"

I mean, if I haven't gotten the chance to see an episode yet, I avoid summaries, transcripts, screencaps, et al. I think it's far more fun to watch it without knowing what you're in for.

And the way they keep throwing out torrent links going "RAWR YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE" befuddles me, too. It's like...dude, some people have dial-up. Chill the fuck out.

I'm blinking at all the comments about if you're far behind, or if you haven't seen that much of the show, to not bother joining or to get out. Yeah, I can understand that the show is over, but still, there are others who either haven't seen them all, aren't that far, or are just getting into it. It puts me off. LJ-cuts aren't that hard to put up, really. I join communities to talk to people or to read up on things on a certain topic/fandom who share the same interests. So, basically it's saying .. "If you haven't seen all the episodes/just got into it, don't bother to join." Okay .. O_o; I can understand probably .. not cutting perhaps .. first 10 or so episodes, but really .. you get new fans everyday in a particular fandom. They sometimes can't help not getting all the episodes. Can't blame them for that. You have to accomodate, I personally believe, for the oldies and the newbies. And yeah .. that's my rant for the moment.

Yeah, I'm not getting it either. Like there's a certain obligation all fans share to be up-to-date every second of every minute of every day? I guess timeliness is a virtue.

I love how they're discussing the semantics of spoilers when the community icon of PGSM is freakin' Princess Sailor Moon declaring the major plot point of the entire series. It makes all the petty "bantering to the masses" that much more funny.

It was wanky to start a whole separate post about it, but I actually don't have a problem with what [info]djranmas is saying if I understand it correctly. As I understand it, people are complaining about not cut-tagging something that aired 2 months ago? That's about as stupid as all those Lost fans on the [info]lost_tv comm who yelled at people for talking about details from a 3 week old episode, claiming would "ruin it" for people in other countries... that don't even get the show yet.
