Small Tori wank.
The Tori Amos communtiy has once again delivered the goods. It seems that Tori's brother passed away recently. Most of the reactions from the community are along the lines of, "Aw, that's sad, thoughts and prayers are with Tori during this difficult time." It's pretty much as you'd expect.

Then along comes Leperheart who has a slightly different take on the situation:

"And I may be an asshole for thinking this, but we are probably going to get something absolutely gorgeous and heartbraking out of this. Think "Marianne" or "Cooling," only better."

Indignation at the CALLOUSNESS OMG!!1!!1 ensues and then some. It also spills over into the Toribitchlist community with members of that comm being outraged and ashamed that leperheart is one of their own.

Bonus mini-wank: Apparently at least one Tori fan has made an ass out of herself in an online rememberance book.

Ah, Tori Amos. A textbook case of love me, fear my fans.

You know what? I'm thinking about killing all my house plants, and then I'm going to write a song about it.

It's not actually as inspiring as you'd think. *sighs*

*shakes her head and laughs*

If the person had said "oh, how sad! So what about her new album, is she gonna put it out after all", I could understand people getting mad...

Heh, yeah. I can sort of see what Leperheart was getting at but given the righteous indignation of most Tori Amos fans, he probably shouldn't have said it. Or, he should have worded it alot more carefully.

Remember, these are the same sort of people that thought it was OFFENSIVE when someone re-mixed 'Me and a Gun.'

Remixing = offensive? Oi...some people.

Yeeeaaahhh. Apparently taking that track and adding an instrumental backing to it was sick and wrong because the song is so deeply personal.

*sigh* If it were that "deeply personal" she wouldn't have made the song public, now would she?

I can understand that though. I think part of what made that so, well, powerful was how it was peformed' [no musical backing of any kind.] So I can see why fans would be annoyed that they wanted to add an instrumental.

But it is her song and I'm sure they wouldn't do something like that without her approval so it's not something to freak out over.

I'll be quiet now.

Ah, a little clarification: it was a fan remix so it doubt it would have been officially sanctioned. However, it has been floating around on several websites and it's been talked about alot in the fandom so I suspect she knows about it. Haven't heard a peep from her though.

I can certainly understand why people might be apprehensive about a song like that being covered or remixed but I think it's wrong to say it should never be attempted, ever. Alot of the people ranting about how offensive it was hadn't even heard the remix but still frothed at the mouth about it. I can deal with comments like, "I wouldn't have done it," or, "It's better left a cappella, it's more powerful that way". Yeah, I can see that. But-

"OMG COVERING ME AND A GUN IS LIKE TYING TORI UP AND SEXUALLY ABUSING HER!!!1!1".

I think that's a just leetle touch of hysteria. I can't remember the exact wording but that's what one of the comments was like.

Anyhoo, if you're curious to hear what all the fuss was about you can download the remix here.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but I know a lot of people who were pissed off over a remix of Me & a Gun and Madonna's Like a Virgin ... which for obvious reasons ... is a bit disturbing. This is probably a different remix though.

Oh no, no, it's a different remix, far more tastefully done than that monstrosity. ;)

And who committed this supposed atrocity on Me and a Gun? I'm always curious to hear anyone covering Tori.

Right click and save. :)

If you do a search for Me and a Gun on Kazaa you'll probably be able to turn up the god-awful Madonna remix that [info]bisclavret mentioned above but I don't recommend that one. Oooh no.

Thanks! Hm, I do prefer the original, but I wouldn't call this person a blasphemer for adding an instrumental to the track.

If it's by P.Diddy, they have a point. Mostly 'cause it's the song, "Uh huh", "Yeah", and another shout-out to Biggie Smalls.

That, or if Vanilla Ice says he didn't rip off your sample because of the extra "ting".

Ooooooooh that's nothing. On www.atforumz.com, in the thread on this in OIT, someone posted pictures of a girl posing with a wrecked car saying "OMG I met this girl that Joel [that would be Tori's bodyguard] let pose with the car after the meet & greet [after the memorial service]". Many people were pissed. I actually posted about it here, but the images were edited out and the thread temporarily unavailable, so I ended up deleting my post.

Here's the thread: http://www.atforumz.com/showthread.php?t=250739

I've known for a long time that @whorumz was a total wankpit, and yet the place has found a new way to blow me away. Holeeeeeeeee shit.

Forget LOTR and HP -- no one brings the crazy like Toriphiles.

Well, in all fairness to leperheart, I've heard people say some *stupid* things after they hear that someone has passed away. It's weird enough to try to figure out what to say or think when someone you know and love has died. When it's the brother of someone who is, by definition, a total stranger, I can see how "hey, at least we'll get a song out of this" could come out. I'm not saying it was the best response, just that it's not as if he knew Tori Amos or her brother.
