McCaffrey Wank, you gotta love it
So, a couple of weeks ago, the official McCaffrey bulletin board The Kitchen Table was announced to be closing. This announcement was greeted with horror, tears, and bitterness... including from the admin who apparently didn't know until the last moment.

You've also got to love the excuse - "We're closing the messageboard because... uh.. we're becoming a multilanguage site and it wouldn't be fair otherwise!" I mean, c'mon guys, just admit the place was an embarrassment rather than lying about it.

It goes on, and slowly one last flamewar is fanned from the dying embers. Especially interesting as apparently the site's admin feel that there's now no point in being polite themselves anymore.

So... wait. A website, based in America, about books written in English needs to be available in other languages in order to be international?

Seems kind of like they're underestimating the intelligence of them furr'iners to me. I mean, next thing you know, they'll be learning English, and then where will we be?!

Pornographic or “slasher” sites, based on any of my literary works, are expressly forbidden. But I’m sure you know that. I’m a grandmother, after all.

The logic somehow escapes me.

If it wasn't for the fact that I barely remember any of her books, I'd be tempted to go write 50K words on hot, scaley, gay dragon sex. Or something.

Possibly because her attempts at sex scenes were both crap and (in DFlight/DQuest) rather disturbing, and she doesn't want to see anyone else doing better. Also possibly because her attitudes concerning women and sex (and men and sex, and anything to do with sex) would have been better suited for illuminated manuscripts where everything has an 'e' on the end.

Or possibly because she's a senile dingbat. I liked the Harper Hall series, and I loved the others when I was thirteen, but yegods. I thought "McCaffery" was an international synonym for "wacko" by now.

I know, I mean one would think that since she's a grandmother then she has kids, and therefore must've had sex at some point in her life, so why the freak out?

This reminds me of the bitchy mother who wrote to Dear Abby about her EVAL neightbor who had the gal to wear a GASP bikini in public!

This will damage her children in some way, I'm not sure how though.

Dammit, I've been debating with myself whether to post this here, and you went and beat me to it. You know, when the Kitchen Table was first started it wasn't too bad but now, honestly, if you've ever seen Flame Warriors, every dodgy stereotype (especially the female ones) is represented there. An honest-to-god flamewar is like a breath of fresh air.

Ahem. Lack of objectivity, and my current tendency to think it's bloody funny, is probably the best reason why I didn't post this. And believe it or not, I stopped posting there a long time ago (and I missed my 'I'm leaving!!!1! hissy fit, too. I feel cheated).
