You Raise Me Up, as performed by Josh Groban, was #17 on the list of Awesomely Bad Songs for 2004. As somebody who seems to have a taste for what VH1 considers 'awesomely bad', I can't say it bothered me.

But the Grobanites are, once again unable to comprehend that not everybody agrees with them.

JasmineFoxedMe: Josh is number 17 on VH1's Awesomely Bad Songs. They keep saying he's 21. They've said it like 4 times now. They also say he wrote the song, etc. Basically they're making fun of it being for "soccer moms". Well, as a 24 year old, I'm pretty comfortable in saying I'm not a soccer mom.

banklady1966: They were wrong with his age and that he wrote the song. They are very misinformed peeps. They just don't understand our Joshie.

dramaqueen: >:( :(

lavio: They also said Josh is the next Michael Bolton and do we really need another one!!! My blood is boiling right now!!!

vince: [VH1] Is a bunch of tards! Come on, they have comedians talking about the songs! I hate VH1!

dramaqueen: Amen!!!
But sadly people listen to thoughs people!!

(I think she means 'thought police')

PamT: I HATED that clip! They don't know ANYTHING about Josh or his music!

They talked about how YRMU was too serious for a "21 year old" (wrong age anyway) and showed bikini dancers on a beach as an example of what people his age are supposed to be into. BLECH! What shallow people! Do they think that no one under 30 has a brain in their heads? Well, that's simply not true, and they are totally WRONG in their entire assessment!

And they did say other wrong stuff about him writing the song. They mentioned that he sells a lot of records and acted like they didn't know who could possibly be buying them! DUH ... how about PEOPLE WITH TASTE!!!!!!!!!

JasmineFoxedMe: Sorry, I still think it's a joke show. I doubt anyone watching it is actually taking anything they say seriously, or thinking "Gee, this random unknown comedian thinks Josh Groban should be singing songs about spring break, guess I won't buy his CD now". In no way will this actually affect his career, it's just a silly show that I doubt many people will ever see anyway.

PamT: I hope you are right. I was livid.

trumpetgurl: no offense, but I've seen other "VH1's awesomely bad" stuff (music videos, rock songs, etc) and most of the time they don't know what they're talking about. They make fun of great songs and it's kind of disturbing to hear that they made fun of Josh's song... >:( :(

NewYorkNilsa: I agree with you 100%..creeps! >:( >:( >:(

lovinjosh: What?!?!?! I don't want to upset any Michael Bolton fans, but Josh is OH SO much better than him!!!! There is absolutley no comparison...are these people smoking something???

There are odd voices of reason in that thread, but they are largely ignored. Oh, and those giant rainbow signature blocks FoJG is famous for? They've all changed them to red and green in honour of the christmas season!

You know, I like Josh Groban...I think he has a very lovely voice, and I'm rather fond of Closer...but "You Raise Me Up" has always made me want to toss my speakers out the nearest window.

Just sayin'. *waits for the horde of Grobanites to descend and eat her alive*

I agree... my roommate this summer had a thing for Groban and would play that song on repeat all the time. *shudder*

Which isn't to say that his other stuff isn't better, 'cause I've never heard it. But I have that same cookiespeaker-tossing reflex whenever I hear that song.

You know, I'm a pretty big fan of Josh Groban myself, and I'm not particularly fond of "You Raise Me Up."

I don't know. There's something about that 'We wish we were backing Clay Aiken, but he doesn't want us' gospel choir thing that just grates on my nerves.

Well, I have to admit I'm not fond of the Awesomely Bad songs (particuarly the Metal version... they put "Here I Go Again" on the list?) The wanking is a wee bit excessive, though. It is just opinions.

Although I have wanked about it, but usually kept it to yelling at the TV.

We should call every grobanite, buy a HUGE surround sound system, and blare it outside VH1 offices until they change that horrific act.

Not if Homeland Security gets a hold of you first, you damned terrorist.

Looking at those quotes, if the Friends of Josh Groban were the only thirty year olds I knew, I'd think that no one under thirty had brains in their heads.

The mere fact my hugely religious mother loves the song "You Raise Me Up" because it si "inspiring and make sone love god more" is enough for me to agree it is an awesomely bad song.

His fans have no sense of humor. How tragic.

Boring.

My mom likes the song, and she's a soccer mom. I am so amused right now.

She started out fine, and then went horribly wrong. Using the word "peeps" is 10 kinds of wrong.

I've noticed before that VH1 tend to play largely reasonably decent music during those '40 Most Awful Whatever' slots -- presumably because if they *did* actually play the 40 most awful, then no one would listen to them and then the ringtone and chatline advertisers would stop spending their $20, or whatever it costs to buy a VH1 advert slot.

I swear,Grobanites piss me off.He isn't THAT special.I prefer female classical crossover singers, and there are a few great ones out there who should get the attention Josh gets.

If you want DECENT classical crossover artists, try Laura Turner and Emma Shaplin, for starters.

I worked in the electronics department at a wal-mart type place for 6 months. That freaking song was played over and over and over. But the end of a week i wanted to hunt Josh Groban down and stuff a sock in his mouth.

That being said, they're overreacting a tad. I'd like to think most people are intelligent enough these days to not just look at some tv program and go, 'oh they say it stinks, i won't even try to form my own opinion about it'.

And dude, people don't have to like the same things you do.

Hmm. I'm a bit late in replying to this thread, but oh well.

I was personally laughing my ass off the first time I saw it on the Awesomely Bad 40. Because to be honest, I liked "You Raise Me Up" for all of three listenings before I instinctively began to skip it in favor of "Never Let Go." He has a nice voice and the first verse is pretty, but I really think that they could have gone without repeating the damn chorus 8 times.

Anywho. Your thought police comment? COMEDIC GOLD.
