Reposting the CC wank....
Let's try again, true believers. Since someone decided to bah-leet the original post -- apparently after a few people complained -- I'm reconstructing this, with a moral: Dun delete your posts without a good reason...it pisses us off big-time. So, for anyone unclear on the concept: please don't delete your wanks without good reason, and people bitching about them isn't a good reason in and of itself. Cause, you know, wankers and friends of wankers will always bitch.

Someone apparently broke into Cassie Claire's apartment and robbed her and her roommates of lots of expensive computer equipment. Not wanky, just tragic. She appeals to the masses to try to behave...a dictum they promptly ignore as some people ask about Cassie's ongoing fanfic magnum opus, to which maybethemoon and littletort react very badly. Tackiness begets ranting, and such is life on the Internet.

The original post also included a link to a comment about collecting money, and, while I'm too lazy to search the comments for this, someone did send me this link. Sounds eerily familiar, but I'm just presenting it here for y'all to comment on.

Just a sampling...

"It's not in my nature to be self-sacrificing," said Draco matter-of-factly. "I don't know if this is just some lingering vestige of that Polyjuice spell or what. But if it is, and this generous phase that I am in passes, and you are still making Hermione miserable, then I will come back here and I will yank out your ribcage and wear it as a hat. Understood?"
"Understood," said Harry, grinning despite himself. "And a big gold star for imagery."
~”Draco Dormiens”

Buffy: I have had a *really* bad day, okay? If you have information
worth hearing, then I am grateful for it. If you're gonna crack jokes,
then I'm gonna pull out your ribcage and wear it as a hat. (lets go)

Whistler: Hello to the imagery! Very nice.
~B:TVS, “Becoming, Part II”

“They had come to a low bridge over a narrow stream. Draco stopped dead. Harry, who hadn´t been paying attention, was about to step on the bridge when Draco reached out a hand and caught at his sleeve.
"I wouldn't walk on that if I were you, Potter," he drawled.
Harry stepped back quickly and looked at Draco with suspicion. "Why? What'll happen?"
"Standard procedure," said Draco, "is to leap fifty feet into the air and scatter yourself over a wide area while screaming at the top of your lungs."

“Edmund: Finished? I think the obvious point is this: we'll go straight out to the dugout and do the painting from there. You do the most imaginative, most exciting possible drawing of German defenses from your imagination.

George: Oh I see, now that is a challenge.

Edmund: Quite. Come on, let's get out of here.

George: Oh sir, just one thing. If we should happen to tread on a mine, what do we do?

Edmund: Well, normal procedure, Lieutenant, is to jump 200 feet into the air and scatter yourself over a wide area.”

~"Blackadder Goes Forth; “Captain Cook.”"

And that's just from her fic. Imagine what her "original" looks like.

OOOOOOO. I loved Blackadder. That bit of stolen witticism really really ticks me off for some reason.

The one that always drove me nuts was the "cold-blooded bit of toast" thing. People quoted it incessantly without knowing it was a direct rip-off of the scene between Willow and Oz. Just drove me bonkers. I don't mind "find the quote" if it's attributed, but it wasn't and so all these people went around thinking it was hers. Grah.

Sorry, I just get so defensive abou things like this...

No kidding. So do the people who *actually* wrote those things, I'd imagine.

I don't have examples, but I know she quotes Xander A LOT, and it yanked me right out of the moment. Blah.

I always found the quotes quite amusing. Maybe because I read DV as a bit of fluff entertainment. Maybe because by the time I read it, the quotes were always credited at the end of the story. I can see how it could be distracting, but they always made me laugh.

That's Blackadder? Huh... I always thought that quote was from either Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or Red Dwarf. Or maybe even something older than that, and it was just reused in Blackadder.

That's precisely what I was thinking! It's a very HGTG-ish quote, im(g)o.

Hurrah for British geekery!
