We've all heard about Scott Peterson, right?

You know who I mean, The Sexiest Bad Boy on the Planet. Not only is he young, handsome, and a bad boy; but also, he is now single!

Besides the obvious omgwhatiswrongwithyou, there's nothing particularly wanky. But thanks to j.potts post, a flood of "dousche bag"-s come a-running, Caps Lock o' Dooooom in tow (which, IMHO, is more wanky then having the hots for Scott Peterson).

You know the routine. Spelling. Extended edition of "WTF is wrong with you people?" The psuedo-AOLer speak.

Is it sad that I wasn't surprised that there was a Scott Peterson fandom on LJ? Is it even sadder that the thing that did surprise me was that the membership in the community was so small?

Uh, yeah. Of course, they're overlooking the tiny fact that he's now single because he killed his last wife. I would think that would put a damper on his future love life.

So, every once in a while, somebody starts some stupid "shocking" journal, because they think it's funny. Then come the swarms of people who miss the "joke", saying it's offensive. Then it either dies or gets deleted. *points at Pro-Anorexia Avril Fans, Anne Frank in Space, etc.*
What they don't seem to realize is, it isn't unfunny because it's offensive. It's unfunny because it's just not funny.

I am afraid that, when this was posted to Online Idiots, I made a bit of an idiot myself. I thought those really were pictures of the corpses, rather than random images yanked from choosedeath.com.

Some of the people posting to protest this journal are as sick as the people who are actually attracted to a (convicted) wife-killer. Disagree with them if you want, but posting dead fetus pictures takes it a little far, imho.

The thing that makes me most mad about the whole Peterson trial is that every time his dead wife is mentioned, the phrase "And she was pregnant, TOO!" will immediately follow it.
Is the only reason this crime is shocking because she was pregnant? Would it have become a media circus without an unborn child being involved?
She was a person with her own life. Her death is not tragic only because the life of her son was also lost.

... Excuse me if I just started wanking there for a moment, but it bothers me how when a woman is a victim of a crime, her status of motherhood is usually brought into the equation. Whereas when a man is killed, the fact that is is a father seems far less important. Unless, it seems, his wife was pregnant when he happened to die.
