The Day The Moderator Lost Her Mind
This is a one-person wank, but oh. Is it ever wanky.

Over on Greatest Journal, there lives a community called playersresource. This community existed as a place for roleplayers to advertise themselves, looking for a game that wants them. And on this community, there lived a moderator named sirius. And one day, sirius got fed up with the universal law of communities: someone will violate the posting rules.

Phase one:

How our hero decided to solve her problem was this: she made an angry post (since deleted) stating that she was deleting every single post in the community (besides hers). She also said that she was "no longer providing a service." Mind you, the majority of the posts followed the rules.

Back in August, Sirius deleted the entire membership list of the community, so she has a pattern of taking out her anger at a handful of members on the entire community.

During the mass post deletion, at least two (eta: replacement) pimping communities were created.

Phase two:

The next day, all the player advertisements are gone. Sirius then deletes her post where she said she was shutting down, and posts another post where she tries to laugh off the mass deletion and said the community wasn't closing.

Phase three:

Now the most recent public post says this:

All posts from now on will be friends only. If I see the number of replies declines because of this, I will obviously make it so you can choose if your entries will be friends only or not. You can always go back and change your entry to public after you post it in the meantime. I won't get pissed off about stupid things of that nature.

By the way, we have not closed. All I did was close posting for a few hours so the community could be cleaned out. Why? I don't know. I'm a bit weird and insane like that. I can tell you that I will probably take the community off of moderated soon since I hate getting those email notices. Maybe I'll just assigned mods. I know of one person I want as a mod, but feel free to "apply."

Note the wank-friendly content: she acts like deleting the posts of everyone else in the community is not, say, unusual or mean; and she has instituted a counterproductive "friends-only" policy.

I bet there's more; I just haven't bothered looking for related wank on other journals.

ETA: OH OH OH. http://www.greatestjournal.com/community/playersresource/193014.html?thread=2040054#t2040054 I smell trouble.

ETA: phase four

The post mentioned in phase three was deleted, and replaced with a post (paraphrased here) that said "if no one starts posting in here by Sunday, I'm closing this community."

An anonymouse graciously screencapped this lovely exchange: http://pictures.greatestjournal.com/userimg/2690618/143173

phase five:

The whole community was deleted!

replacement communities

Okay, there have been a few comments from people asking for replacement communities. Here are all the ones I know about: hp_peoplesearch, hp_personals, pimp_it_playah, playerresource (note: no "s"), players_wanted, playerseeksrpg and ygo_rpers all take ads from players seeking rpgs. Some are multifandom, some are single fandom. If you know of any others, leave a comment and I'll add them.
