Eeeesh. Read it when it was first posted to Anax's journal, but didn't realize it would blow up so bad.

Now that it has, I think everyone's taking it badly and Anax is acting wildly wanky. She's not archived there, it's got no bearing on her personally, and it's just stirring up shit at this point.

Plus, rape mentions? So very tasteless and tactless. FMA is a fandom, not a life. Fanfics are practice, not prose. I am a space munky, not a crook. Where is my rum?

*blink* You know, I'd only ever heard this "explanation" offered as a joke. To hear someone offer it seriously blows my mind in too many ways. I thought that you had to be out of preschool to post to the Internet . . . (as hp invokes some Internet law and thus loses the argument).

Yanno, they're discussing how it's against the law and their fanfics should be copyrighted and all...

....but aren't they the ones breaking the law with that? Trying to claim copy right for a FANFIC they wrote off of someone else's ideas?

Y'know, when Sol asked if she could put my stuff in her archive, I was thrilled. I'd never been asked into an archive before. I don't really care if she keeps it up there until doomsday. I write fanfics to enjoy writing, not to use them as some pseudo statement.

But, still. This policy's kinda weird. I can understand not wanting to get a thousand and three angry emails because a fic or an author has disappeared, but wouldn't it be just as easy to put up a page that said "author has requested fiction be removed from site" or something?

Cripes. I'm too tired to deal with this brand of wtf.

Waaaankwankwank. Though, the rampant "don't like it, don't agree to be archived" argument makes no sense, considering the no-removal policy was added after many people had agreed to be archived, if I follow this correctly? And if authors don't agree with the policy revision, the revised policy retorts with, tough shit ha ha ha! I'm not elevating that to a crime against humanity or anything, but it does seem wildly unfair.

also, if the archivist doesn't like dealing with email from fans, maybe--and this may sound crazy!--maybe she shouldn't have decided to run an archive. XD

I was waiting for something like this to hit FW as soon as I saw a post in my friend's lj about the archive policy. 'twas a Wank-Bomb a'ticking.

The policy is insane in more ways than one and rather . . . too aggressive. If the archivist is trying to scare people off from archiving with her, I'm sure it's working. I feel for those who are archived and want their work removed.

However, arex_kun needs to chill for a minute and saya_aensland needs some good hits to the head.

Fucking hell. This is why I stick to FFNet. For all it's faults, it's nowhere near as insane as some of the smaller archives.

I can understand an archive having specific rules. That's fine. However, when those rules change, or an author is unaware of a particular kink in the chain, then it is the original author who should have complete control of their content. And you know, I don't care what they do in the Gundam Wing fandom, they certainly don't do that kind of thing in any of the fandoms I'm involved in, certainly not at that level. Since when has Gundam Wing of all fandoms been held as a shiny example of how a fandom should be run online, anyway? It's had more wank and problems in the past than most others.

Although, they didn't do that in the Gundam Wing fandom when I was in it, either. Huh.

I think the archiver is just a little too self important. She really does seem to believe that she owns these fanfics.

In as much as there are any community standards in fandom at all, screwing with fanfic writers meager control over their fics is usually pretty high on the List of Bad Things. Sol probably couldn't have picked something wankier to do if she'd held a plagiarism contest.

Not notifying current authors + unconvincing reasons = more fuel to the wank fire. Oy.
