Wolverine likes beer and WANK
Minor wank in the Scans_Daily comm

http://www.livejournal.com/community/scans_daily/291847.html?#cutid1

Basically mageusblack posts an amusing X-Men scan, there is much squeeage and Whedon love, then nique shows up to tell us how much Whedon sucks.

A bit of back and forth ensues.

Enjoy!

The man uses the same character archetypes in everything he does.

Thank God Lee, Kirby, and Ditko never did that.

Because, you know, heaven forbid that Wolverine think something other than "OMG MY LIFE SUCKS AAAAAAAAAAAANGST let's go kill something now." Which pretty much sums up his characterization in almost every other Marvel book...

He got rid of Sammy the Squidboy and Anna the Bizarrely Popular Nurse (at least for a while) so I'm pretty happy with him.

I'm also one of the few people who actually like Scott/Emma and I will now take my geekness off somewhere so we can be alone.:)

And now my sorrow at not being able to read that post because I didn't want to spoil myself for that issue of Astonishing has miraculously turned into sweeping relief.

I would go on about how much I love Joss and what he's doing with X-Men, ad infinitem, but it's not even worth it.

I just wish they would keep the wank away from my scans_daily! Forcripessake people it's about the pretty comics scans! Thats. All. Why is that people on the internet can't even sit and enjoy teh pretteh in peace?

Hah! They're on that one again?

That has to be my all time favorite anti-Whedon on X-Men argument.

No one stays dead in the Marvelverse. Ever. No matter how they died. No matter how long they were dead for. They always come back. Always. Even Aunt May.

I mean seriously. Just about every X-Man has died and come back to life at least once. Colossus was coming back eventually. Joss just happened to be the one who liked him enough to do it. Big deal. His death was stupid anyway.

Wait, Aunt May came back? When did I miss this??

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]rawles
2004-12-25 03:18 am UTC (link)
That was years ago. The details were a bit fuzzy in my mind, but there was this whole big storyline where Spider-Man thought that someone (can't remember who; the Green Goblin maybe?) had his maybe-stillborn probably-kidnapped daughter May. There's this long search, etc. and finally he finds the place where May is supposed to be. He opens the door to find her and there's Aunt May.

Apparently, the woman who died was actually an actress who was give gene therapy and plastic surgery and stuff by someoneoranother so that she could replace the real Aunt May, who was kidnapped. By who? I'm not sure. To what end? I have no idea. All I know is that the storyline ruined that really great issue of Spider-Man where Aunt May actually died. Which was sad and affecting and did not need to be later devalued with a classic Marvel "Psyche! It wasn't really her!"

I believe, editorially speaking, this was another of their many attempts to take Spider-Man back to "the good old" days. The stupid quest whose most egregiously horrible result was the Clone Saga, which is made even worse when you reflect on the fact that it was all done in an attempt to get rid of Mary Jane.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]iczer6

Which is too bad because as these scans show Peter and Mary Jane are *so perfect together*.

Indeed. I was all over that thread squeeing and talking about how that issue started me reading comics again.

I <3 Peter/MJ so much, that not only does it annoy me on a basic level when the obnoxious Marvel editorial intent so obviously tries to screw with them, but also on a "Leave my OTP alone, you freaks!" level.

Not to mention Marvel doesn't seem to realize how special Peter/MJ is. I mean, how many superheroes in all of comicdom have been happily married, to a non-super person no less, for as long as Peter has been married to Mary-Jane? I'm fairly certain you can probably count them on one hand. So the idea that they're so fixated on dropping that and going back to the same boring old Superhero Dates But Can Never Maintain a Relationship Because of His Superheroness and Secret Identity crap that Peter has already done, for years and years is just. So. Damn. Stupid.

Though, it does give me great joy that because of the popularity of the Spider-Man movies, Marvel is literally stuck with Mary Jane now.

Except for Magick *sulks*

That, however, I think is because Marvel didn't want to deal so much with magic and demons.

Good point. The one great and stupid exception. Although, it can't even be because they don't want to deal with magic and stuff because a few years ago they tried to pull a fsat one and had a Magick limited series were Amanda freaking Sefton was supposedly Magick. Disgusted, I, and everyone else in the world, sat that crap right back on the shelf.

joins the sulking

Illyana was the best.

Hey! Wait a sec. Magic. Demons. Maybe Joss will bring her back too! She's right down his alley!

Yeah, but... didn't they keep attempting to rehash her after Uncanny 303, if I rememember correctly?

I was gonna bring her up, too, actually. <3 <3 <3

Also, if you read the old (very old - like 1984/85-ish) Nightcrawler limited series, you'll find that 'Yana has/had a sizable Playgirl collection! :D :D :D

Kitty, Illyana, and Rachel Summers are still three of my favorite X-Chicks. ^^ (especially in a threesome. Yum! OT3!)

Eh, Colossus aside, I still don't like his style. My main issue is that a lot of his jokes seem funny, but are very far from my version of in-character so that falls flat. Also, that burning pain for giving Storm that toad-lightning line in X-Men the movie. It takes all kinds, and as long as he keeps Austen away from the books I'm convinced he's the better choice.

To add to the fun, we now have lcsbanana telling everyone just what they should and shouldn't comment on in the community, which I find pretty wanky. And now the OP has added a comment for the sole purpose of telling off Nique. Which, of course, s/he couldn't possible have done in the thread where nique might have been more likely to read it.

I'm a Whedon fan, but I'm on Nique's side. She expressed her opinion. She got jumped on. She defended her opinion (albiet, wankily). She got jumped on a whole lot more. The comm rules do not state that you can only express positive opnions.

I've also more or less stopped doing more than a glance through the comments there, so I missed this one until LC posted.

Personally, I don't bother reading the comments because most of the time it's "Ooh, wonderful", which I'm quite happy to add to, but do not find to be riveting reading. Bring on the wank!

Wanky true but I agree with her point. S_D is supposed to be about squeeing over the pretty and giggling over the subtext, it's not a place to fight it out over which character/writer rocks/sucks, or about writing a frigging manifesto about how slash is poisoning your soul or something.
