Dear They Might Be Giants:

You are seriously hindering your attempts to be popular off the internet.

Sincerely,

Whoa. Now, that's an end of the Internet I thought was a wank-free zone.

Of course, it must be nice to have fans where 10+ full releases over twenty years, a seemingly never-ending tour schedule, plus a zillion and a half miscellaneous releases just. Aren't. Enough.

I know. TMBG has been tainted by wank. I mourn.

I just happen to think that what they're doing with it now is kinda stoopy.

I learned a new word from this wank: STOOPY! I will use it all day long!

I've been trying to figure out what it means -- is it a combination of "stupid" and "poopy"?

Thank you. I made it myself, while in a drunken stupor. Feel free to take it, if you want.

Could it be from that McCoys' song from the '60s, "Hang on Stoopy. Stoopy Hang on."?

Maybe it's "The Stoop John Brown"?

Wha-huh? A couple of my friends have a band called Stoopy that play jazz covers of cartoon music (older stuff...I'm not talking about a jazz cover of the Chipmunks theme, although that would be pretty cool). I didn't realize it was an adjective as well! Won't they be thrilled when they find out...

I know it's just because I have bad associations with the band that have nothing to do with them and their music but...

TMBG wank. My life is complete.

...I had no idea TMBG had no CDs on the market. O_o

*reads wank*

Okay, I sorta agree with the "The way TMBG runs things is stupid!" side, cause it WOULD be nice to be able to buy their stuff. But the other side is right, they can do whatever they want with their music. Me, I just love "Experimental Film" and that's that. :P

You can still buy CDs off their website (tmbg.com), tho. Personally, I enjoyed the whole "having TMBG on tape is disrespectful" part of the wank. I wonder what those people would think of my TMBG vinyl collection...

Ah, holy crap. I've been disrespecting TMBG for most of their career, then.

Oh, the shame!

That's strange. I could've sworn I just bought a TMBG CD for the husband not two weeks ago. No? Just my imagination?

They exist -- at least, a friend was wandering around with his CD player listening to a TMBG CD and asking people what they thought the lyrics of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" actually meant, so I'm presuming they exist. Maybe it's just for older-ish releases, though?

Is it that they're no longer going to release on CD? I mean, we have nine of their CDs, so it can't be that they never have done so before. But this last one I bought was a fairly recent release, too, so I have no idea what's going on anymore. Bah.

They release their new stuff on CD eventually. I think the problem the people in the links are having is that (a) they are not released on CD fast enough to mollify them, (b) sometimes the mp3s differ slightly from the finished products on the CD, and (c) listening to single mp3s somehow ruins their appreciation of the whole later-released CD (yeah, it doesn't make sense to me, either).

My advice to them: Just suck it up and burn your own CDs, losers!

Hrmn, what I picked up from skimming was that everything on mp3 was eventually going to be released on CDs with the speed of average artists, but TMBG is also putting out material in-between to satisfy cravings for new music, and people are wanking because they feel obliged to buy the equipment to listen to the extra shit they'll get anyway.

Bleh.

Go to TMBG.com and click on the thing that says "Free MP3's! Huzzah!" Sign up, jot down the login and password, and you can get a free MP3.

So not my day.
