Fresh Wank!
There's no wank like MSN Groups wank, and no better wank than Harry Potter Wank, (that sounds so very wrong....bad thoughts...bad thoughts), put these two together and you get 'Hogwarts 2001 Mess Hall' wank.

Are you all sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.

Our wank begins with a common topic of discussion, censorship of the Harry Potter books, but one member, Minerva ~all hail the Christian Right~ McGonagall, takes offence to a quote, Kingsley ~its just an opinion~ Shacklebolt, posts, and Mount Moron erupts...Minerva's minions come to her rescue.......ahh it's still flowing.

ETA: and there's more, Minerva Mcgonall (her spelling) replies
I am hardly frightened of Homosexuality. I think it is unnatural.

and she backtracks...I wonder if she is the mice?
Again women of course can dress as they like. Rape is very wrong. What I meant by that was a woman can expect to be judged at first meeting or impression mostly by how she looks.

Mock away my pretties....

Actually the treatment of their women is a part of their religion.

And then

What I am saying is that American Christians are nothing like Islamic fundamentalists in Iraq or Iran or where ever.

*rolls around trying to smother the burning irony*

Oh... and I almost missed this.

And yeah! If a young woman doesn't want to be labled as someone who is "easy", they should not dress like it.

*deds*

I'm rather fond of this one:

If a girl is dressed tastefully, elegantly and modest, people are more apt to treat her as something special. If a girl is dressed in something that is revealing and lavicious. How do you think she'll be treated?

Oooh and....

Another opinion and you will be free to rebuttle as you deem fit: If you had asked our founding fathers to define marriage they would say a union between a man and a woman. Today that has changed because it is what some people want to hear.

Well... you have to admit, people take you for what you present yourself as. Dressing like a hooker won't make people mistake you for a nun.

My husband once worked in a store behind a counter. A woman in a very low-cut shirt came in and bent over to look in the glass case and... well, as the saying goes, on a clear day you can see forever. She saw him and snapped, "What are you looking at?" He smiled politely and said, "Just what you are showing me, ma'am." She turned bright red and marched away.

I'm not sure if I ought to be glad to finally see ignorant Christians liking HP, or horrified that there's a fandom I know that has them in it.

Honestly. I LOVE the part where someone replies with Bible quotes about how the mistreatment of women is a part of Christianity. And you know, when I diss another religion... I try to know where they're from. It's hard to take a person's opinion if they make stupid mistakes while trying to justify their statements.

Book makes some nice points too.

Would it horrify you to know we have discussed Harry Potter in my adult Sunday school class, and the general consensus was that they were a good thing? It's only a handful of nutjobs making the rest of us Christians look bad. In our discussions, we agreed that the focus of the book was the struggle of good vs. evil, and showed how important it was. Rather than being "Satanic", the books encourage doing the right thing, even if it means risking death (or worse, expulsion!). Anything that makes selflessness, caring, and sacrifice 'cool' is something worth encouraging.

Women and men were equal in the early days of Christianity. It wasn't until that whole passing down property issue came about that the men got all huffy and declared the penis the Master of the Universe(tm).

Then it was "Back into the long dresses with the lace collars for you women!" (Surely I'm not the only one who sees those women in those damn dresses with those wide lace collars on Sundays at Applebees! Good Christian women know their men love the Riblets.)

Um... what? Last time I checked, they were already fucked by both the Roman Empire and Judaism, and Christianity was about as good for women's equality at the time as the occupying forces are for Iraq.

As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35

Okay who here was thinking of the The Brick Testament when they read that?

Thank you, FW members, for being so wanky that you've overshadowed the HP wank for me. *loves*

I know the backwards-thinking anon has taken over this thread -- but, please...won't somebody think of the wank!! It's getting good, too.

Not only did I not realize that our 'travel writer' misspelled McGonagall's name (really badly) in her userid until pointed out by Kingsley Shacklebolt, but she's now pulling the victim/moral highground/martyr act.

And her sycophant supporter Allie (could someone tell this broad how to spell the word 'and' please?) is talking about picking up all her marbles and going home. The heart--it bleeds to the point of transfusion.

"McGonall" says: Kingsley you are a war mongering fight seeker!

...As opposed to a war mongering peace maker.

(And remember, boys and girls, Detritus sez "Protect the innocent comma!")

I meant by that was a woman can expect to be judged at first meeting or impression mostly by how she looks.

Speaking as a girl from a Muslim country where women dress very conservatively and where there's still a sexual harassment and rape problem, your argument is sooo fucked up.
If men aren't educated to respect not just their mothers or sisters but all women, because they're living, breathing human beings, there will be these problems, no matter the way women dress.

Anyone else getting a kind of 'Dolores Umbridge' and even a 'Stepford Wive's' vibe about some of the members of this HP site?

Yet now another sycophant has joined in and is telling this Kingsley to leave, and is even offering to help send him/her somewhere else. Here's another HP site I'll never join.

It's always interesting to watch people vilify "the religious right." Both sides tend to come out of the fray looking petty and unappealing.

I'm a former member of this HP site, I joined a couple of years ago but didn't participate much, but from time to time I return to it to see what the latest wank is about.

Its been quiet this year, there was a couple of good wanks in the summer, involving the members in this wank. I think its been removed though I think it was a staged wank by the member who started it by flaming certain members.

One of the best wanks at 'Mess Hall' was one that started when the Queen Mother died. One of the American members posted a Hallmark greeting card message to the British members, 'my deepest condolences over the loss of your dear Queen Mother.' There was more but that's about the jist of it.

The British members responded with sarcasm and a clear message of 'we don't care.' I remember seeing a picture of Yoda dressed like the Queen Mum, which everyone found funny except for those who were shocked and upset that the British members weren't demanding a Queen Mum memorial page on the site.

One American member said in all seriousness that her proper English grannie wouldn't aprove of their behaviour, and that led to more sarcasm and questions about what was a proper English grannie.

But it didn't end there, the wank took on many forms, towards the end it had become one about how far should you go in protecting children from the evils of the world.

It ended with the obligatory 'goodbye cruel Harry Potter site', which was followed by the unnecessary long farewell of a few members who were traumatised by the wank......though not too badly as they returned a few months later.

I wish I could show you all this, it was fucking hiliarious. There were tears, hurt feelings, the works, but the members who were so upset by this wank demanded it be taken down, but the long farewell remains.

Oh and the members involved in this recent wank, at least a couple of them have been present in each and every wank since the first splooge eruption. Honestly you'd think they would have learnt by now, still it makes for good entertainment.

Long live the Harry Potter wank!

Whew! I finally finished reading that, and all I can say right now is, is there anything these people won't get upset by?

I think Kingsley is right when he says he thinkgs Min, book, and Allie are loving this. I think they are too! They're getting off from the wank.

And I'll shut up now.
