Slightly stale, shadowy wank
Long time reader, brand new poster. Never thought I'd actually feel the need to register an account and post here, as I tend to spend my online time in relatively wank-free communities, but this had to be posted.

Please be gentle.

A bit of background here...

Quite a few years ago (1998-1999) a game called "Thief: the Dark Project" was released, differing from other first-person games in that the main character was a thief, and the aim was to keep to the shadows and avoid getting noticed as much as possible (as opposed to going after the enemies with a variety of deadly weapons and killing everything in your path). A sequel to it, "Thief II: the Metal Age", was released a few years later.

The games gained quite the following among "niche" gamers, because of being plot-focused and deeply immersive (despite very dated graphics), with quite a lot of twists and turns to the plot and some thoroughly terrifying missions.

Shortly after the release of Thief II, as work was being started on the third game of the series, the game's developers, Looking Glass Studios, went bankrupt and closed.

[ insert rather a lot of OMG NOES WE SHALL NEVER SEE THE THIRD THIEF GAME from fans ]

But lo! A saviour suddenly came, in the form of Ion Storm, another game developing studios, who announced they were making Thief III after all, and with a lot of the original developers from Looking Glass working on it.

And the fans rejoiced.

The third game of the series, named "Thief: Deadly Shadows", came out early last year. What with the fact that there are several changes from the previous two games, and that the game is also out for Xbox and not only for PC, the fans have been merrily wanking away about it.

One example of such is this thread on the forums of Through The Looking Glass, a fansite for the Thief series of games (as well as others made by Looking Glass Studios or related to them in some way).

Now keep in mind while reading, these are grown men - the majority of the Thief fandom is over 20-25.

With a thread title like "1001 things Deadly Shadows did wrong", we can hardly expect it to take long before it starts.

It's all kept relatively civil until ZylonBane jumps in, stating a few of the reasons why he thinks the game sucks, shortly followed by Tony:

"I refuse to call the game "Thief III," and instead use the title "Deadly Blue Shadows.""

Daveh corrects one of ZylonBane's mistakes, even providing a helpful video to demonstrate just how wrong he is; Subjective Effect prefers a more direct route instead...

"Maybe you should actually PLAY a game before mouthing off?"

Indeed, it appears that ZylonBane has *gasp!* committed the cardinal sin of bitching about a game when he's only played the demo.

ZylonBane, of course, instantly reacts:

"Why yuo are right Subjunctive Effete! Beacause there are no ladders in teh demo!!"

ZylonBane and Subjunctive Effect pick on each other some more, then he flys jumps in, pretty much stating "you are stupid and wrong because you are stupid and wrong and I am right, so there!"

And so it goes on, and on, and on, with everybody eventually coalizing against the utter stupidity of he flys.

The thread eventually got locked at 11 pages while the players were in full swing, which is a pity.
