Mommy, where do lust threads come from?
So recently there's been this spate of lust threads going around. They consist of mostly anonymous comments running along the lines of, "I'd tap that ass!"

[info]jennyo ponders this phenomenon. Why is it there? Perhaps it's because m/m slashers think about sex too much, or that LiveJournal has a pseudosexual culture, or maybe, according to [info]glossing, it's just the offensive, demeaning play of the overprivileged who are trying to prove how OMG SUBVERSIVE (TM [info]twinkledru) they are. It's got to be one of those things, right?

If you're meaning the discussion of the lust threads as opposed to the lust threads themselves, then I agree with you!

To be honest, I couldn't make head nor tails of some of what was being said - there was a lot of overly wordy theorizing.

Once you penetrate the deep, sleep-inducing layers of pseudo-intellectual blather the following two messages seem to emerge:

A) "I'm afraid of people."

This entire thing appears to be about whether or not typing a *hug* to someone means you actually wanna fuck someone. At least that's what I coule make out of it.

Does anyone else remember back, oh two or so years, when all the actors from LotR were doing basically the same thing that [info]jennyo is complaining about? And remember how people seemed to think that was really cool and really sexy? Maybe it's just me, but I don't get why one form of homosocial posturing is okay, while another one is pathetic and poseurish.

I see far more posts by people complaining about how doing [random thing] on LJ is *not* cool and subversive, it ISN'T, so you can STOP PRETENDING THAT IT IS because your fake [whateverism] ANNOYS THE SHIT OUT OF ME, than I ever do posts by people claiming something they do *is* cool and subversive. Especially something like {hugging} and ::licking::.

I would suggest that people might get more fun out of life if they chilled out, untwisted their panties, and stopped caring so much about how other people enjoy themselves. But then, some people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about, so I guess in summary...whatever.

I'm hungry. I wonder if I have noodles in the cupboard.
