My first Wank....A Wicked one
The Wicked community is always rife with drama. We've been there before, with mod drama, teenybopper drama, "I'm a better fan than you" drama.....the works.

Now, it seems the community has been HACKED!. The old, inactive mod has inexplicably taken mod duties away from the active mods. [info]edgeof7teen, the most vocal mod, has posted that the community will now go down in flames. A new community is started, but some don't feel welcome there. Spam begins to infiltrate the community and no one is happy. Wank ensues in most of the posts on the front page!, including the flashing headline about the demise. There are arguments about why people should have to move over to the new community, wicked_elite.

The mod mentioned int he OP had done the layout and graphics for the community. Since he's no longer a mod, he's disabled the graphics, leaving it with those lovely default settings.

Dammit. I didn't post this earlier because it actually was rather drama-free. Then I had to not check the community for oh, a few hours and presto. Wank galore. *sigh*

Does anyone else agree that a community with "elite" in the name is just inviting future wank? I have a feeling there will eventually be OBC vs. Shoshana Bean/JLT/George Hearn wank...probably sooner rather than later.

I hate Wicked wank. I see way too much of it on the boards I frequent.

Actually, wicked_elite was created a while ago for the purposes (if memory serves) of being an OBC fan community. It got a lot of backlash and never took off, so now they're just recycling an existing name for the new community. There's been discussion of changing it, but consensus seems to be no one's overly bothered by the "elite" part of the name.

*insert generic bashery comment about "Wicked" and the word "elite" being incompatible, anyway*

(I get sick glee out of watching the Wicked wars on Broadway World and other sites, as I saw the musical and thought it was ok, but the levels of vitriol on both sides provides me far more entertainment than the musical ever could.)

I thought it was kind of on the fringe of horrible. The soundtrack is fabulous, but live...

Then again, I'm one of them thar brainwashed hicks that adored Hairspray more than anything. Oh, damn me for happening to like a well-directed, choreographed, and composed musical that branches off the OMGDEEPMEANING! stereotype very common now. It was bright, colourful, fun, and fuck everyone else.

I liked Wicked, more or less. It was a bit like "Clueless" having a collision with, um, something that wasn't the book "Wicked." But outside of the cliches, it was kind of fun. It's the rabid fans and detractors that are endlessly entertaining.

Yeah, it's, like, called totally having a mind of your own! :D

I enjoyed the book Wicked considerably more than the musical. Musically, it focused too much on vocals for me, and I prefer a healthy balance of everything.

And grrrr, back on the hairspray tangent, my biggest complaint is that people rag on Hairspray for its percieved superficiality and use Wicked as an example of a superior musical. What the fuck?!

I didn't know that was allowed. I thought we all had to be bitter theatre queens. Alas, for dashed dreams. ;)

I don't think the book Wicked would have made a good musical, really. Can you imagine the song about Animal cruelty?

I never saw Hairspray, but people like what they like. Liking something thoughtful doesn't mean that you can't like things that are amusing and superficial. Unless you're a theatre snob, of course. ;)

No! Sondheim is the Unnamed God! (or, rather, the Unnamed God is, paradoxically, named Sondheim...) You must bow down and worship his Greatness! Particularly Sweeney Todd! Also, Assassins deserves some kind of worship as well....

Anyway... I never got to see Wicked onstage (yet), but I've memorized the soundtrack and read the book, and I liked it well enough. The fact that it was written by the dude who wrote Pippin and the lady behind My So-Called Life didn't hurt either. What can I say? I'm not picky.

As long as I don't end up in the rumored Sondheim S&M basement, but I don't think I'm the right gender for that. ;)

I saw Wicked pre-Broadway, so I'm sure it changed a bit, but overall it was... light, and fluffy. Fun. But if it's not by Sondheim and dark and deep, we must scorn it. Scorn! Scorn, I say!

Yeah, that's the impression I got from it. It's... light. However, I am fighting my like of it, because it does not have tongue-twisting lyrics and doesn't have Sondheim, the Great and Powerful, behind it.
