Atalantapendrag thinks that if you want to write buttsex, you ought to go out and HAVE buttsex!

More than one person points out that they write murder scenes, and they don't kill anyone. Various pissyfits break out over "But porn doesn't need realism!", "But women don't have prostates!", "But when I signed up to be a slash writer, no one told me THIS was a requirement!"

Don't worry, she/he has an answer for all them Doubting Debbies: Anyone who flames me for this? Can stick it up their ass.

Am I supposed to think that the suggestion is wanky, or the responses to it? I think it's an interesting idea, as a mild suggestion, anyhow. Now what would be wanky would be if she said "U haf no biznes riting butt sex if u neva had ne!!!!!!1111" (Minus caps for the sake of everyone's eyeballs), or something alone those lines.

I think its pretty funny that some of the objectors are so concerned about not violating their own arses while eager to write about it.

She never said you MUST play with your butt to write better buttsex0rz, just suggested that it might be considered an option not outside the realm of possibility.

True there are plenty of guys who write bad scenes, but at least they know where their bits are most of the time. The whole mangina and butt hymens phenomenon tends to be written by women in my experience... and it's just BAD, no matter who is doing it.

Wow. That might be one of the oddest things I've ever read in my life.

I have to go and meditate on it for a while to make sure that I understand that she's saying (and repeating over and over) that if you want to write anal sex, since you have an anus, you should go ahead and stick something up there...

I mean, seriously, it broke my brain to the point where the only thing I could articulate was, "But...what if you don't want to have anal sex just so you can write a piece of fiction?"

I understand where the OP is coming from. Play with your ass to get an understanding of what it feels like. It's cheap, it's easy, you can do it in the privacy of your own home.

Oh, man, most BDSM profic is scarily bad.

On the occasions I write a scene involving a type of toy I haven't personally played with, I scramble for the how-to books and informative websites. Every time I read about someone being tied up with silk scarves, a little part of me dies.

IF, by her assertation, that people who write buttsex should at least stick their finger there in order to write good buttsex (or convincing buttsex or whatever), then wouldn't you agree that if you are going to write a BDSM scene involving a toy you haven't played with before, you should USE said toy before writing it? At least have one on hand to know what it feels like in your hand, rubbing against your skin?

Yet in that one snitpicky comment, she manages to blow that assertation away. She has done it, written with no first hand knowledge and relied on research, how-to books and informative websties.

Why now, are m/m slash writers not allowed to apply the same reasoning?

If, all it takes is just sticking your finger up your ass to gain some first hand *snicker* knowledge, then why not go out and find a toy to play with to gain same first hand knowledge? Surely one of her friends has one of those toys. She couldn't borrow one? Much like the reasoning that we all have assholes and there is nothing preventing us from playing with them?

Snitpicking on one comment that would have been a good rant otherwise. She should have stuck to telling everyone to shove it up their ass.
