Arwen vs Eowyn
No, I have no life without LJ either.

I noticed on IMDB that they had reported about Miranda Otto's pregnancy, and in doing so, referred to the character of Eowyn as an elf. So, I wandered over to Miranda's profile and checked the messages boards for what I thought would be ensuing wank over the error. There is a post about it, but it's not wanky...yet. However, there is this little gem posted by MirandaOttoFan, original spelling intact: Eowyn is so much better than Arwen, who agress?

When the first paragraph of the OP starts off "For all you Arwen fans out there, I hate to break it to you, but your sookie Arwen coments aren't wanted here. We can all rejoice in how freakin cool Eowyn/Miranda Otto is, BUT NO ARWEN COMMENTS!!" you can imagine how it degenerates from there, but sadly, it's lacking in vicious name calling. Plenty of Arwen bashing, Liv bashing, and comparing characters from bookverse to movieverse. Best line? "If J.R.R. Tolkien was alive right now,I'd make him give you an explaining."

Oooh, that's a tough one. Arwen is hotter than Eowyn, but Eowyn kicks so much more arse. I'd put my money on Eowyn on a fight, but my vote's with Arwen for Miss Middle Earth.

I'd also vote Galadriel off the island.

Lo, these many years ago, when I as a girl read Lord of the Rings, I identified much more strongly with Eowyn than with Arwen. After all, Eowyn did things, and Arwen sat at home and embroidered. In the end, however, I thought she had the best deal, since I'd considered Faramir much more impressive than Aragorn. While movieverse has changed the 'hawtnessss' factor on that one, Eowyn is still a more developed character. Though if we really want a woman who kicks tush, Luthien is the one!

I don't get where they derive their 'Arwen just sits around and whimpers' idea from. True, the character in both the movie and the books is much 'softer' than the character of Eowyn... but I distinctly recall being sick to my stomach at the amount of "big, puppy-dog-eye looks" Eowyn kept throwing Aragorn, and that's not because I like Arwen any better than her.

I wouldn't want to decide what's worse - giving up your immortality to eventually see your one twue wuvv die and remain alone to see everything you ever knew fade away, or dying on a battlefield because of some idiotic idea about 'heroism'.

Personally, and ignoring book-canon now, the fact that Eowyn was supposed to go back to Rohan to lead the people as Queen in case the battle went ill ( and it did ) had a much greater impact on me if seen from Theoden's point of view. Eowyn fighting for feminism and independance? Uh, nope. She fought for herself. And there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't, however, make her a shining heroine, witch king or not.

I always had a penchant for Eowyn. Arwen pretty much cried and pined away in both the movies and books. I found Aragorn to be a fool but that's just my opinion.

The only reason the role of arwen was expanded was for Liv Tyler....and still Arwen doesn't do much in the movies....Yet she takes away thunder from Eowyn.

Hey now...fair enough but I did say it was merely my opinion.

The last time I checked...I was allowed to like certain characters more then others. What is this? The Arwen-defense League?

The same thing that IMDB boards are getting wanked for is happening here only with Arwen as opposed to Eowyn.

For crying out hooters! Does it truly matter who's a better character? I also prefer Pippen and Merry over Frodo, Sam, AND Bilbo. Shall we start a debate about that? :P
