Classic Film + Classic "I'm leaving this community!" = Wankiness!
Classic_film maybe hasn't been the funnest place on the web, lately. Once in awhile there'll be an intelligent disscussion, but a lot of posts lately have consisted of "OMG! Clark Gable is teh hot!!!!111"

Garbomonroe takes issue with this, but decides to say it in a way that's a little wanky:

This is the only classic film community (that I know of) that actually has people in it who post useful things, so I'm kind of forced to be a member, if I want to be in such a community at all. I have a few guidelines that I follow when I post in communities, and I think that everyone in here should try to follow them too, to make this community as enjoyable as possible to everyone. I am respectfully suggesting these things, so if you disagree, please do so respectfully. Also, other classic flim community recommendations are welcome.

1. Not many people want to see watermarked images like those from Getty. They really aren't good for anything. If someone has a favorite star, chances are they've seen the image in HQ, unwatermarked.
2. Always post without specifying a text color. I'm sure that whatever color you pick will interfere with 90% of other members' layouts, in a way that will make your post unreadable. That's not beneficial to anyone.
3. Try to avoid posting in a community just because you are bored or have some random thought- this is what your personal journal is for. Remember that not everyone is interested in the pair of shoes you saw today that reminded you of Jean Harlow.
4. Avoid posting things like "OMG, i love gene, what's your favourite gene movie? OMG". You might say "_______ is my favorite movie because of blah blah blah. What is your favorite, and why?" Also, no one wants to hear that "OMG! I love classic movies! I think I was born in the wrong decade. Anyone else agree?" Belive me, we have ALL seen that too many times.
5. Things to remember in general: A) Some people still have dial up, which means that they have to wait for your page to load in addition to their entire friends page. B) Just because you're excited doesn't mean that everyone else will be. Think carefully before posting. Ask yourself, "How would this contribute to the community? Will anyone find anything useful in this post?"

EDIT:
6. Make sure your post is relevant. If your post is not about or directly related to a classic flim star or movie, it belongs in another community or your personal journal.

EDIT AGAIN:
suzycat was nice enough to let me know that my initial post came across as "dictatorial" (thanks for not saying "bitchy"). I just wanted to clarify that I completely don't expect anyone at all to change to my way of thinking if they don't want to do so. I'm just throwing my ideas out there."

The post gets deleted, as garbomonroe isn't a mod and complaints are supposed to be brought up to the mods, not posted.

That leads to this post.

I'm pretty mad that my entry, "Reflections" got deleted (with no reason given). I didn't say anything bad in it, though it was a complaint. It seems like only one person was actually being a bitch, even though several people disagreed.

Anyway, I'm leaving this community. It obviously isn't meeting my needs anymore. Bye.

Since I'm leaving anyway, I might as well say: Garlandswooner, you are the MOST annoying and stupid person I have ever had the displeasure of encountering online or in real life. And please, don't ever post pictures of yourself again, for the sake of other members. You are EXTREMELY hard on the eyes.

I tried being polite, and it's obviously not appreciated by the moderator of this community or a certain ugly, annoying member, so I'm done being nice. To those of you who left nice replies, whether you were agreeing or disagreeing, I thank you again.

It doesn't get that much wankier, unfortunatley. A splinter group is made (called "The Non-Frivilous Classic Film Community"... oh jeez), some people agree, others agree but think that her personal remarks about garlandswooner were out of line, blah blah blah. Should all die out pretty quickly, unless garlandswooner shows up. Until then, I marvel at the fandom laws that were broken in this little post.

Edit: Minor grammar gaffe.
Edit 2: Oooh! Baleeted. And there goes garlandswooner.
