I come bearing more antiyaoi wank!

seris posted to the community complaining about young girls who are into yaoi, saying that they get"all pissy about it when you call them retarded for liking it-- because more than likely, they don't really get what it's all about (or what's going on, for that matter)".

percy_weatherby then took up the torch of "gay sex is NOT retarded", whereupon seris clarified that it wasn't so much the gayness but the femaleness that botherred him: "Women generally can't have that much of an understanding as why TWO MEN are going at it. And that's my problem." 243 flames ensue!

Then lex_sama proposed banning percy, saying "Percy has become nothing but a bad influence on this otherwise peaceful community." 80 replies later, the wank rolled on.

seris finally posted a public appology, so perhaps the wank is over. but the suspense continues! will percy be banned? will the "gay sex is icky" people ever get over themselves? and what about fred? stay tuned for the next wank, during which NONE of these issues will be resolved!

The thing that bugs me about Percy is, he needs to turn everything into a gay bashing. Someone can make a totally innocent comment on the journal and he'll somehow twist it around so the person is some kind of homophobic bigot.

Percy started by pointing out to these folks how other people could interpret some of their comments as being offensive, and when they continually refused to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe he had a point in that they needed to think more about how they worded their stuff, he turned on the Sarcastic Asshole mode. He TRIED to play nice, but since they wouldn't do the same, he had to take off the kid gloves.

The supposed "twisting" of so-called "innocent" comments is just a way for him to expose the underlying problem. It is a very common tool in satire (especially in the sociopolitical kind). THAT is what I saw going on there.

Sorry, i just don't see it that way. I've seen several posts on that group and it just seems he looks for reasons to fault people and claim they're making homophobic comments. And you know, most anybody's statements can be taken the wrong way if a person is LOOKING for them to be taken the wrong way. But you don't agree, that's fine.

Two things.

First I will give Seris props for admitting that he/she was wrong. It was surprising to see that act of maturity there.

Second so comments like 'I hate gay people' 'Yaoi sex is retarded' and 'I WANT TO KILL AND MAINE YAOI FANGIRLS' aren't homophobic?

Maybe the topics keep coming back to homophobia because that's what the whole community is based on.

Thing is Percy has stated that he doesn't care for yaoi. What he dislikes is the fact that community is willing to foster homophbia and intolerence.

I honestly think this is more entertaining than reruns of Seinfeld.

I find this and many of the other wanks far, far more entertaining than Seinfeld ever was, period.

(Er, no offense to people who liked the show, but I tried watching it a few times and while I found a few of the jokes funny, I could never manage to truly like it. Which is odd, because I love sarcastic ranty-type humor.)

I've been noticing that Percy's shown up in a *lot* of the wank that's been reported recently, and not just the Anti-yaoi kind. I don't think you're entirely right in saying that he's overly-defensive, though, not in cases like this. The whole "anti-yaoi" thing bothers me, too, and I'm not straight either. I *also* get frustrated with biggotted, anti-female yaoi fangirls, too, so I think I can see where Percy's coming from.

From what I've seen of his participation in the other wanks so far, though, it seems to me that he's over in LJ, getting his hands dirty *for* us. A lot of the time, he's the only person in these wanks with common-fucking-sense. So I'm willing to support him for what he's doing. ^^

Just taking a stab in the dark: it could be possible that someone objects to yaoi because of the yaoi fangirl tendency to objectify gay men and package them into tidy little packages for female consumption--that many of the younger authors buy into gross stereotypes of gay men as being overly effeminate and always very pretty, and that a large subset of the yaoi-writing culture rewards the perpetration of those stereotypes. I'm not saying that's what yaoi is, but that the above would be, in my mind, a possible non-homophobic objection to yaoi (or slash).

Oh, crap, I just got wanky. ;)

I don't really get that feeling from his posts. What I do get, and appreciate, is him saying that yaoi/slash is a predominantly female thing and we should get to read it and write it and get off on it if we want. There isn't much more irritating than some holier-than-thou gay guy saying I'm 'retarded' because I'm intruding on his subculture when really, he's the one intruding on mine.

You know, these people all need to learn to tell the difference between "yaoi fan" and "yaoi fangirl". The girls they're complaining about are yaoi fangirls, and I hate 'em, too. You know, the ones who sit around and bitch about every woman they see as a threat in every anime with hot guys, EVER. The ones who sit around and write crappy fics about girls they hate dying horrible deaths, just cuz they're coming in between the perfect romance of char A and char B. Disliking a character is fine - everyone hates one or two. But hating a character because they're breaking up your personal OTP is stupid.

Lumping a 19 year old who happens to like one or two yaoi anime into the same category as a 12 year old who has only seen Gundam Wing and hate, hate, HATES!!!1!!#@!one Relena (because she's coming in between Heero and Wufei's perfect romance* is kinda dumb, don'tcha think?

Ahhhh, Anti-Yaoi Wank. Just the thing to make me forget a shitty day. ^_^

Or complain about series that doesn't have male characters that are "cute enough for yaoi," or freak out when someone asks a question about yuri because "OMG!!!!1111 GIRLS DON'T LIKE YURI!!!!111 that IS SOO GrOsS!!! u r a LESBRIAN!" I mean, Jesus Christ, if you're going to throw "lesbian" around as an insult (and this from little girls who pride themselves on "liking gays!"), at least spell it correctly.

They're the reason why I head over to the slash side of things for my m/m action. It's usually easier for me to avoid that kind of psycho mindset with slash, for whatever reason.
