so ...like Dom has a girlfriend (allegedly)
I posted a link to an article suggesting that Dominic Monaghan is dating Lost co-star Evangeline Lilly to the dominicmonaghan LJ community.

(for those who'd seen the Golden Globes photos this wouldn't be a huge surprise)

I thought I might get about 30 or so posts, with a couple of unhappy fangirls, but now it's up to 86 posts and still going.

There is much rending of cloth and tearing of hair and many interesting..err opinions, this in itself is worth getting popcorn out for the entertainment, but of wanky interest was the exchange between astinboy84 and spikesdeaddaisy

spikesdeaddaisy berates astin84 for wanting Dom to be gay, I can kinda get behind her point of view...at first.

astinboy84 responds to her:

why are you so up on defending him.. i mean why cant people have a little fun? god why cant you get your head outta the clouds and step down off your soap box and let people have some fun? let the fan girls and boys have some fun.
cause fangirls and boys just wanna have fun. LOL

But spikesdeaddaisy won't have a bar of it:

Because you take it to extreme levels. Such as making icons of these people together and writing nasty fan fiction about them. I mean these are real people. It's 'fan girls/boys' like you that make me embarrassed to say 'Oh yeah I'm a Dominic Monaghan fan' or a fan of any other actor for that matter, in fear that people may assume that I prance around doing the things you do. It's just really, atrociously weird and disturbing. I just pray that none of their children (for instance Sean Astin's) find this stuff in the future. Had my dad been an actor and I found this stuff on him, I'd be emotionally scared/terrified/never able to touch a computer again.

Besides, my head is perfectly happy in the clouds. Rather it be in the clouds and still able to have a good sense of reality, than in the gutter like yours. I'm perfectly happy being levelheaded and liking an actor/tress for the work he/she does. I am also proud to say I have never stuck my head in the gutter and participated in such ridiculous antics as you have.

Oh the joy this fandom brings me. Want popcorn?

Why do so many people on the internet not only assume that everyone else is on the internet, but also assume that everyone else reads the same parts of the internet?

I feel quite safe wandering around at work saying "My head is pasted on, yay!", because most of the people at work are not on the internet, and those that are aren't involved in fandom_wank. (Not that I'm ashamed of my fandom_wank addiction, it's just an example. In fact, I keep trying to explain f_w to people at work, since they want to know why I keep giggling so much on my breaks.)

I mean, really. If someone says to me, "I'm a Dominic Monaghan fan." my first thought is not "Oh, like those crazy ones." It's "Oh. Whatever."

*sigh* People, really. Get over it. NOT EVERYONE IS ONLINE, AND THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE WHO ARE AREN'T ON LIVE JOURNAL!

Gah.

*ends foaming at mouth to go back to work*

Mine would be to go 'Do you have a LJ?' but..I'm a LJ fan, so probably not typical. But most of the non-fan people have a clue about online life, and I don't generally tell them.

Hmmm. I almost agree with you, although I must say f_w has definitely formed my opinion about Josh Groban fans. I work at Borders (plug!) and when people come up to purchase his CD, I always have to squash the impulse to either giggle madly or back away slowly.

it would just be kinda nice to know that there was an actor that was comfortable enough to say that "yes im gay" and who has been in a HUGE movie and who has stardom and who is very unique. GRANTED there IS whats his face... um... nightcrawler guy... Alan Cummings.. but now Dom is here and he is young and he has all this ambition and fame and he is just an AMAZING guy who has such drive and all his shows, even his shows in London were amazing. I would only love to hear that he was gay, because it would give me hope that someone like me could get into hollywood and do something with my life and not have to worry about what people would think about me based on my sexuality.

What Alan Cumming isn't enough, you need Dom to be gay too? What about Rupert Everett amd Ian McKellen? Both out, both gayer than a treeload of monkeys on nitrus oxide (God bless you, Terry Pratchett) and both a couple of hotties.

You know what I think? I think there are too many hot gay actors in Hollywood! We need more hot straight actors!

Why are people so upset about this? Seriously. When I heard this news I laughed for about five minutes, I was so amused that it was "confirmed". And the majority of the people on my friend's list were like "yay!"

My fandom is starting to really make me roll my eyes. I found the tinhats amusing, but upset fangirls/boys because Dom has a girlfriend... I don't know if I can handle those...

Please, don't let some of Dom's fandom turn into something like Orlando's... *crosses fingers*

I always kinda hope that when I go to my boyfriend's apartment, I will catch him in bed with Johnny Depp. I'd act all surprise in a room with clothes on the floor and naked men on the bed (or floor) but I'd be thinking, "Oh! My! Gosh! My lord in Heaven heard my prayers of manlove!"

But I don't get angry about Johnny Depp being straight, because I know he's straight and I know he's never gonna have sex my boyfriend, especially if I could just walk in on them.
I haven't written any fanfiction about it either. Ok, I haven't posted it on the net.

Okay, wait. I am officially confused.

See, when I was a fangirl, I was sitting there fantasizing about various crush objects going to the mat WITH ME.

But...the fangirls of today actually fantasize about crush objects going to the mat with...other men?

To the point that some of them blatantly and outright profess "No straight boyz"?

Could someone explain the psychology behind that to me in a way that makes sense?

I have a good plan for the fangirls. Print out pictures, thousands of pictures, of penises. Then plaster them over his house. Soon he will come to associate them with happiness!

It's infallible, really.

I was wondering when there'd be wank about this. Only I was sure it'd be about how Evangeline was Dominic's beard or somesuch from the DL camp. (Ha! Camp!)

But I think Radar's expression says it all.

clowds > gutter? Does not compute.

Unless angels have hot gay sex, in which case I totally agree.

Amazingly enough, the wankers at IMBd are even less subtle than the ones on LJ. Like here, where c_holloway-1 jumps feet-first into the spooge by calling Lilly a bitch, then follows up by saying she's a whore who'll do any thing to get into his pants. Then some sane IMBd posters come along an smack her down beautifully.

Um. Evangaline Lilly is around Dom's height? Long dark wavy hair? (I don't watch Lost, as I am a bad fangirl.) I think I saw them out and about together last week when a friend and I were going to the movies (yes, this is one of my few, fleeting brushes with a celebrity).

*looks up golden globe pics*

Uh, yeah. I *think* that was her. Does this mean I'm in on the Great Conspiracy to Keep Dom in Teh Closet?

I was amused by this from spikesdeaddaisy:
As well as there are plenty of popular TV shows that revolve around the idea of homosexuality. IE: The L word, Queer eye for the straight guy, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and even The O.C.

Now I certainly think that Angel revolves around the idea of homosexuality, but I thought that opinion was sort of confined to slashers.

Wha...? Golden Globe photos? Evangeline and Dom? This is why I just watch the show and stay out of the fandom.

(I was up at 2:30 am last night and I swore I saw Evangeline Lily on my tv, doing a commericial for one of those "search for a relationship by phone" dealies. I didn't even know she was Canadian...)

Did she totally freak out after logging approx. 10 milliondy billiondy miles across America and elsewhere to track the true love? Do you think she feels like an asshole, or is she on to the next big thing?
