anti-cosplay.wank
It's been a while since I posted some spooge. Come check out the ever-expanding wank that is the cosplay.com forums! (For those of you who've been living under a rock, cosplay involves dressing up as your favorite anime/game/movie character and flaunting your costumes at numerous conventions.)

KoreanEyez starts a thread about a supposedly 'anti-cosplay' site. Some cosplay.com members are also members of said EEEEEVUL site and state that they hate seeing how many craptastic costumes get "OMG i lurvvvies ur cossie!!!! XDXDXD U R da best!!!!111one" (this runs rampant in cosplay.com image gallery comments). Discussion of privacy, fat/old people bashing, and constructive criticism commences. The usual wank ensues, complete with misspellings and overused emoticons.

FlameSniperRei gets up on her high horse and says she "know(s) people out there that do not ever make fun of people that way so don't speak for the general public." Fortunately there are some relatively sane folks who comment that if 'you don't like it, don't look at it.' I actually thought the FuKu site was pretty funny, as it really is only out to make fun of itself. And the 'Bottom Tens' are hilarious!!

This one keeps the spooge coming every time I refresh the topic. I had to practically eat my hands not to wank on this.

Page isn't loading for me. Is the link wrong or is the page goooooooone?

Ack, I'm reminded that the reason that I don't hang out on the cosplay.com forums is because it seems like so many members need have 300MB pictures of their favorite characters as their sig. Also, I tend to dislike other cosplayers. Yay!

This line, however, is priceless:

In poor taste. Not everyone can be 120 pounds and velopucious.

Velopucious! I don't know what it is, but it probably involves a bicycle or a velociraptor. Or both.

Okay, is there a story behind this FlameSniper person and the other member about taking photos of other cosplayers and saying it's them?

This mouse is curious.

At last, I can use this icon, and it is actually appropriate for something.

Cosplay.com is a cesspool, anyways, and I'm amazed this is the first time in a while it's needed to be linked to.

And also dressing like fictional Japanese cartoon characters does not make you cool. It makes you a geek with too much free time and disposable income. And I am a cosplayer so...yeah.

I like the FuKu site, but mostly for making fun of bad Cosplay. Because there's a certain amount of laziness with cosplay that makes you just fuckin' laughable(towels are cosplay now? BZAH?!). Although parts of the rest of the site...Some of the rants and opinions are on the right track, but get lost at times due to not knowing what they're talking about.

If the site is "OMG ANTI-COSPLAY" then they clearly missed the edition where all the bad cosplayers were associated with the site. And half the time some creepy dude dresses as a cute anime girl, they acknowledge that he's just doing it as a joke.

Regardless, it seems that a small percentage of people think that by posing for a photo you're automatically opening yourself up to be made fun of, and since you should know that then you should expect whatever comes at you. I would consider that about as rational an argument as saying a woman who dresses in a skimpy outfit is asking to be raped, and therefore shouldn't complain if it happens.

Holy terrible comparison, Batman!

FlameSniperRei is also one of the moderators over at the PGSM (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) LJ community (her username is 5exy5i5), which has appeared on F_W a few times.
There was once a cosplay.com thread that she and her sister started a while back and they urged people to boycott EGM video game magazine because they, in their eyes, made fun of cosplayers. And it was only a little blurb with only one or two pictures; I would have probably overlooked it.

Dear Sailor JAM-boree:

I was really almost impressed with your OMGawesome professional!SeiraaMyuCosplay.... until I noticed that your boot covers were apparently made from red garbage bags and/or blue poster board. For fuck's sake, you can even see the original shoes Mercury glued her covers to! And Moon's red garbage bags are apparently either *stapled* or hot glued to a pair of sandals. Also, it would've been nice if you had made the skirts the same length all the way around, or actually made the outfits to, y'know, *fit* the people wearing them - Sailor Mars is pretty much about to get lost in her fuku.

I really don't think that's 'jealousy' those detractors are feeling over there - how about 'indignation that barely above-average Sailor cosplayers get more press than they deserve'? Yeah, I think that one fits.

Love,
Schoen-chan

*For the record, I usually don't snark on the costumes of others or say much of anything, really. Cosplayers are generally too nasty and catty in their comments for my tastes. But FlameSniperRei's comments, and her fangirls' fawning over her less-than-perfect cosplay are *really* grating.

Also? I've *seen* good Sailor Moon cosplay (actually, a Sailor Pluto comes to mind offhand) with decent boot covers that didn't look like garbage bags stapled to sandals. And they are *not* it.

Also, also? This makes me really sad I never took a picture of the 250-300 pound blonde Sailor Mars I met at last year's Otakon. She only talked to me because I was with the Sailor Pluto with the good!boot covers. She kept Fireballing me because I wasn't in Sailor costume, therefore I must be evil. O_o She wasn't bad because of her weight; she was bad because she didn't have remotely the right hair color, had a shoddily put-together outfit, kept interrupting the conversation to "Mars Fireball" me, treated the Pluto I was with like she was *the* Pluto, and had high heels covered in red duct tape. And I still can't bring myself to ridicule her, because to this day it remains more of a *BOGGLE* type experience than anything else.

Did anyone notice anything peculiar about the character's names?

Far as I can tell, they're all either anime directors (Anno), a Gundam pilot (Amuro), or Japanese musicians (Utada, Megumi, Kanno, Miyamura, Yoshiki). I could be wrong about Amuro and Anno, but the rest of them are definitely musicians. (Yoshiki Hideaki being nicknamed 'Hide-kun' is also pretty funny)

I really wish FlameSniperRei would take her own advice once in a while. She advocates that bullying should be stopped...and yet...she bullies the people she thinks are morally wrong. I find her far too irritating for words, which is one of the reasons I left the PGSM community on LJ. Though her wank on anything created that is Sailor Moon related amuses me to no ends.

Of course, her minions are just as pleasent. *gag*

I thought that site was hysterical. Then I saw three of my friends on there (the half-assed FF trio on the feb. bottom ten). That made me convinced that the site is bogus - I mean, they didn't put up the picture of my /other/ friend, the Rinoa without the duster. She was way worse. >=D

Bad cosplay is funny, end of story. Regardless of whether it's my bad cosplay, my friends', or a stranger's. But I'd never tell my friends that they were on there...

Dunno if someone's already pointed this out, but the wank (sorta) continues at the FuKu forums (http://forums.catsonmars.com/index.php?showtopic=904). The thread grew really fast, but it's mostly degenerated into forum members image flooding to drive the troll away now. At least they're (somewhat) funny pictures..
