GAFF Dr. Who/The Prisoner wank
I love reading through the GAFF message boards. So often the author of one of the "reviewed" fics shows up to tell us what he thinks of those "reviews." Normally that consists of a whole crap-load of, "OMG U guyz R so meen im a gud riter & hear R all my freind's 2 tell U that its tru!!!!eleven!!!"

But I ran into something a little different on this thread.

AaronAgassi (apparently a former troll of some note, but not here in a trolling capacity), the author of the fic in question, has an impressive vocabulary and he's not afraid to use it like an anvil and hit you over the head with it share it with us.

Now, like many of the people on GAFF, I have an education. I even have a good vocabulary. But AaronAgassi takes it to some LMAO, pretentious extremes and proves that using them there fifteen dollar and twenty syllable words can make you sound like even more of an asshat than writing in l33t.

It's a slow build to the wank, but it's there and not hard to miss. Just look for the words that make your fingers itch to find a dictionary or thesaurus -- if only to throw it at AaronAgassi.

Perhaps your weakness is in an unfortunate reluctance towards the Dialectic, the Socratic Method of questioning and picking apart also that which one does not fully understand in order to learn more about it, and of enlightenment via refutation. Instead you only warm over the deathly familiar and clichéd, in order thereby to bolster a collective false sense of superiority.

We had a troll moron wanker poster with much the same attitude come aboard a message board I moderate. Fortunately I'd seen his handiwork at another board, knew him for the asshat philosophical seeker of enlightenment he was, and kept an eye on him. Sure enough, we had to ban him within a week because he was irritating the hell out of everyone else.

What asshats fools these mortals be!

As a fan of Doctor Who for many years, who is so in love with the show that I can actually defend the Colin Baker seasons, and as someone who has seen every episode of The Prisoner, and is married to a man determined to someday stay in the Portmeirion Hotel where it was filmed, I can only offer this venerable, yet completely applicable phrase to AaronAgassi.

Get out of my fandoms. You are making my fandoms look stupid.

I'm amused by the fic, but... it's... uh... well... not precisely brilliant, if you know what I mean. And man, the HTML is horrid. And... the photoshopping for illustrations...
gets old real quick, particularly when it's that bad, y'know?

Plus, he starts off with the Doctor as seen in the Fox movie, which
I still resist admitting the existance of.

Because response that is friendly and uncritical is, however genially, entirely uninformative,[and] quite useless, no matter how feel[-] good.

What the fuck? -- how does somebody who can't tell the difference between an adverb and an adjective get this pretentious?

I'd have dismissed it for a typo, too, if the same sort of thing hadn't happened multiple times in his first post.

To translate the ramblings of Aaron Agassi for anyone who didn't pick it up:

"You guys just make fun of really bad stories because you're not smart enough to offer serious, specific criticism! And, no, listing all of the reasons why my story is boring and mentioning how the lack of anything happening means that the sum of its parts barely constitutes a story doesn't count! And if you think using overly complex, stilted, and often grammatically incorrect language to communicate simple concepts or to say nothing at all is pretentious, well then you're just an anti-intellectual, semi-literate slave!"

This icon just seemed so appropriate for some reason...

::Scratches head::

Unless you want a subtly different shade of meaning and no other word will do, why use pretentious synonyms? It just sounds better to say, "She died the next morning," than, "the decease of the maiden eventuated on the morrow's ante meridiem," unless you want to convey that the speaker is a pretentious asshat.

I don't know how long Aaron's been around on the 'net, but there are very few folks I know who haven't run across him in one group or another.

I remember his appearance on FCA-L inquiring into what slash was. No matter how many responses he received, he always came back to the same topic: visit his website.

Sheds tear for Aaron...he was the first troll I ever played with.

Aaron Agassi is a living legend in his own bizarre way. He's been around for over a decade, at least. I don't know how much of that time he's been active online, but if you went to science fiction conventions in the eastern US during his heyday you would have a decent chance of having to deal with him. The guy is pretty much a walking, talking, living (technically) fandom wank. It's almost pointless to try to address him here; it's like throwing water into the ocean. Find further reference at ( http://216.131.94.8/~shut_up/ ), a small page which should give you the general idea.

For my personal contribution, I once had to nearly peel him off a then-well-underage young lady. It's not often you get to say to a troll "Hey, don't I know you from that time I prevented you from committing statutory rape?"

I liked this post by Ceres:

That is where you are mistaken, my thesaurus-overwhelmed comrade in arms, brother of dictionaries, enemy of clarity, for comunication theory clearly states that blah blah blah I want a doughnut blah blah blah cognotive dissonance black blah blah Shakesperian couplets blah blah blah He's dead, Jim blah blah blah thus in the end, we learn that Darth Vader is, indeed, Luke's father.

But I'm even more amused by Aaron Agassi telling everyone, perfectly seriously, that they should install new browsers on their computers to be able to view his site properly.
