Current mood:*thud*

I'm not really into the LOTR fandom. It's something I hear about secondhand from my mother, who is one of the Viggo people and is actually learning Quenya and goes to gatherings where people dress like the characters. And, of course, if I didn't have her and [info]fandom_wank to interpret the batshit side of fandom for me, I would perhaps have been more scared of this nut from the fansite Council of Elrond than I am now.

Let's count how many [info]jurisimprudence laws get broken by the OP, shall we?

FearofLeaves posts that someone named LadyRhiannon is quitting the site. She starts out mildly wanky, says she's a Faramir/Eowyn shipper (fine), and anyone who like LoTR because of Elijah is "pathetic." I'd wager that Elijah fangirls are nowhere near as pathetic as someone who actually believes she is Eowyn - which is LadyRhiannon's claim later in the post. Yes, for those of you following along at home, it means she is in effect shipping herself. The mind boggles. There's a lot of George Lucas-style retconning ("I know Elfhelm now, in fact, he's my brother and I know Imrahil too (he's my dad).") by the OP.

Predictably, there is wank. The usual suggestions that someone's medication needs to be changed, yes... but we're lucky today, because the respondents go on to banter back and forth about semantics and etymology. I_Luv_Faramir bashes the OP and, in the next sentence, wonders why people come to the site to bash people and be OMGMEEN!1! (That's gotta be a law of some kind - bashing people to prove bashing people is wrong. "Dead Man Walking Principle"?)

Enjoy.

Thanks to LJ's peaseblossom03 for the tip.

ETA: Oh, it keeps getting better. Apparently calling a batshit insane person, well, "batshit insane" is the same as martyring someone for their religion. Says meow8012: People were killed! MURDERED because they were different! What about the Crusades? You oh so wise Christians ran around on horses and killed people who weren't like them! How about slavery? Are we going to start thinking we are better than other people because they are so different to believe in somthing other than heaven and hell? You know what? The Romans quite literally threw Christians to wild animals in arenas. And then they WATCHED!!! There is no innocent religion, just as there is no perfect religion. So, we need to repsect them all. No matter what.

See, if I went around saying I was an emperor or something, just because some moistened bint threw a scimitar at me, you'd have to "repsect" that. Or else you're committing murder.

More ETA: Much love to the 'mouse (actually my LOTR-savvy mother) who found another post by meow8012 here. I'm torn on who's more nuts, the OP or her rabid beatification patrol.

"Who's the more foolish? The fool, or the fools who follow him?" Indeed.

Third edit: Everything being locked down, but at least the OP post is in the comments. And we'll always have our memories.

Lady Rhiannon is not the same person as [info]rhiannonhero, is she?

Because that really doesn't sound like the Rhiannon I have run into.

Still that is batshit as batshit for sure.

I frequent CoE, mostly just for its extensive photogalleries. It is a haven for batshit [usually teenie] fangirls.

This post is great! This lady is totally mental - she should join up with Jordan and Abby. I love it. And some of the responses good too, like this one:

Freemason_Fortunado: it can be Middle Earth or Middle-earth but the truest spelling is Middel-Erthe.

Okay!

Except, wouldn't the truest spelling be in some weird fictional alphabet? And not resemble English at all because it's in the Westron tongue?

I remember the Mark and I remember Merry and dressing as Dernhelm and slaying the Nazgul. I remember the dark dreams I had (which I didn't want to remember) and the Houses of Healing and Faramir. And I remember a lot of things.

And some of them weren't just things Eowyn did in the book! Honest!

Ok… another one of ‘those nutjobs’? (‘Those nutjobs' being people who beyond all wanktastic imagination actually believe they are reincarnations of fictional characters.)

I was shocked at this wank (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/621261.html) to discover that not only did one person feel that way but two! And not only that, but these people had somehow managed to find each other.

Now we have another batshit crazy as fuck nutjob! It makes my brain hurt.

Maybe they could form some sort club upon which LOTR fans of this type could ‘channel’ their respective fictional characters. They could call it BREEDNOLOTRF! AKA: batshit- reincarnation-extremely-entirely-delusional- nutjub – obsessive-lord-of–the-ring-fans.

Now I acknowledge that not all LOTR fans are that way, but damn some sure are scary.

Newsflash, sweetie --- the Crusades were politically motivated. For Jerusalem. (And later, for greed.)

And slavery... Slavery has always been an institution of man. When we crawled out of the ocean, we had slaves behind us.

We had slaves before we had religion. I'm not saying it's a great practice, but it is a part of our history (all of our history) and not just the Christians or the Muslims or any one religious sect.

Read a book. THEN go make a historically inaccurate argument.

Perhaps someone should ask her how many kids she and Faramir had, what sexes they were, and when they were born. Because in the appendices to the LOTR trilogy, Tolkein was rather sparing as to what happened to Eowyn and Faramir following their marriage, except that they had some kids and lived long happy lives (so did everyone else in Middle Earth, IIRC).

I like Eowyn and Faramir as a couple, and I was glad the Extended DVD gave them some extra scenes, but that's a far cry for 'believing' you're a literary creation.

So yeah, Batshit Insane works for me as well.

*sighs.*

I love the sheer number of times the words "batshit" "insane" and "nuts" are tossed around in this community. Yeah, okay, maybe THIS particular girl is a rabid fangirl, nothing more: but Jesus, what happened to the community that someone mentioned here a while back? Where it was "all in the spirit of good fun", and not needlessly cruel?

My opinions on this are over at Mock the Stupid, on LJ. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/mock_the_stupid) I'm sure you'll manage to find the post. My contact information's all on my LJ, as well: I'm he_dreams_awake. So. Not hiding behind anon., just don't have an account code yet. I was all massively psyched to join f_w: it's usually hilarious, and keeps fandoms in perspective for me.

Ehhh. Not so sure now.

Let the mock-within-a-mock begin. I'll board up my windows.
