Deuce Bigalow wank - small but fun.
(Er, that sounds really bad. Sorry.)

If there's a Deuce Bigalow fandom, I wonder if they're as upset about this as Rob Schneider is.

Patrick Goldstein, a LA Times reporter, says that Hollywood is no longer interested in making Oscar quality films, citing Deuce Bigalow and its sequel as an example of the low quality movies currently in style. Rob Schneider, star of said films, takes out a full page ad in Variety in response, which is a lot funnier that any film he's made.

In case the link to the article is deleted, I've placed the text behind the cut. Enjoy!

Excerpt from Patrick Goldstein's article:

"It’s a funny thing, but today’s movie studios are no longer in the Oscar business. If there’s one common thread among this year’s five best picture nominees, it’s that they were largely financed by outside investors. The most money any studio put into one of the nominees was the $21 million that Miramax anted up for “Finding Neverland.” The other nominated films were orphans — ignored, unloved and turned down flat by most of the same studios that eagerly remake dozens of old TV series (aren’t you looking forward to a bigger, dumber version of “The Dukes of Hazzard”?) or bankroll hundreds of sequels, including a follow-up to “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,” a film that was sadly overlooked at Oscar time because apparently nobody had the foresight to invent a category for Best Running Penis Joke Delivered by a Third-Rate Comic."

Text of full page ad taken out by Rob Schneider in response:

Dear Patrick Goldstein, Staff Writer for the Los Angeles Times,

My name is Rob Schneider and I am responding to your January 26th front page cover story in the LA Times, where you used my upcoming sequel to ‘Deuce Bigalow’ as an example of why Hollywood Studios are lagging behind the Independents in Academy nominations. According to your logic, Hollywood Studios are too busy making sequels like “Deuce Bigalow’ instead of making movies that you would like to see.

Well Mr. Goldstein, as far as your snide comments about me and my film not being nominated for an Academy Award, I decided to do some research to find what awards you have won.
I went online and found that you have won nothing. Absolutely nothing. No journalistic awards of any kind, Disappointed, I went to the Pulitzer Prize database of past winners and nominees. I though, surely, there must be an omission. I typed in the name Patrick Goldstein and again, zippo—nada. No Pulitzer Prizes or nominations for a ‘Mr. Patrick Goldstein.’ There was, however, a nomination for an Amy Goldstein. I contacted Ms. Goldstein in Rhode Island, she assured me she was not an alias of yours and in fact like most of the World had no idea of your existence.

Frankly, I am surprised the LA Times would hire someone like you with so few or, actually, no accolades to work on their front page. Surely there must be a larger talent pool for the LA Times to draw from. Perhaps, someone who has at least won a ‘Cable Ace Award.’

Maybe, Mr. Goldstein, you didn’t win a Pulitzer Prize because they haven’t invented a category for “Best Third-Rate, Unfunny Pompous Reporter, Who’s Never Been Acknowledged By His Peers!”

Patrick, I can honestly say that if I sat you your colleagues at a luncheon, afterwards, they’d say “You know, that Rob Schneider is a pretty intelligent guy, I hope we can do that again.” Whereas, if you sat with my colleagues, after lunch, you would just be beaten beyond recognition.

For the record, Patrick, your research is shabby as well. My next film is not ‘Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo 2.’ It’s ‘Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo,’ in theaters EVERYWHERE August 12th 2005.

All my best,
Rob Schneider

ETA: Turns out that Schneider didn't do his research. Goldstein wins!

Shorter Rob Schneider:

So what if I'm not funny? No one cares and you suck too. Shut up and go watch my next shitty film.

Dear Rob,

Your films still suck. From Surf Ninjas (which showcased Leslie Nielsen, another attention-whore who stopped being even mildly amusing a LONG ASS TIME AGO) until now. I'd rather have a root canal than watch your crappy, lame-ass fart-joke one-note movies. You weren't even that funny on SNL. The only time you made me laugh even a little was as the announcer in Necessary Roughness, which was, thankfully, a very small part.

stfu kthxbye.

You know, some sequels are pretty good, like if the story is not finished or if there was one or more books in the series. Making a sequel to Deuce Bigalow is just like all the NEW Disney movies coming out. They make horrible sequels to the classics, because they have no ideas for something new and original. They can't even come up with a new fairy princess so they have to make a Cinderella II. It's not hard to come up with a new fairy princess.

Here's one. Princess Cheryl is in love with a frog monster of France, who has repeatedly escaped restaurants demanding his legs as an entree. But, her evil step-cousin Robert has a phobia of frogs so there is conflict. Robert is put in a women's mental institution by mistake and they all live happily ever after. That was not hard, people!

So, let me get this straight.

Goldstein makes a comment in an article condemning Deuce Bigelow to the fiery pits of movie hell (rightly so), Schneider gets mad (YOU'RE SOOOOO MEEN!!!!11!) "Researches" said article writer Goldstein (On google I assume), and in this man's tiny pathetic mind, gets it in his head to basically make a huge[er] ass of himself by taking out a full page ad, and doesn't check his sources?

Is this correct?

If so I give him an failing grade. Using Google to do research = Teh Badness.

Thinking Schneider is actually an actor worth of accolade. Check.

I have long suspected that the only reason Rob still makes movies is that he has wealthy, successful friends--like Adam Sandler--who agrees to either produce his films or find small parts for him in their own films.

Nothing else makes sense.

I don't think its coincidence that Rob Schneider is the butt of a lot of people's jokes. For example, Ben Affleck once said that Pearl Harbor was a very very serious drama and that he didn't work in really shitty movies like Rob Schneider's crap. When asked about it, Rob Schneider responded that Ben Affleck was right. There was a radical differences between his and Ben's movies: "My movies are intentionally funny."

I mean. He's wrong. His movies aren't funny. But that was a pretty good smackdown.
