Anonymouse Provided Laurell K. Hamilton Wank
An anonymouse left a pointer to this wank in the last thread, and checking it out, I agree that lo, it is wonderfully wanky.
Laurell K. Hamilton writes books about a vampire heroine named Anita Blake, I believe. Her husband Jon runs a blog for her. (One hopes she writes better than he designs blogs.) Part of the blog is a guest book.
People comment on the guest book that LKH is a lousy writer. Example: I have been a reader for close to 50 years and a reader of serials for almost 40 years and I have never, NEVER, read a series where an author completely undermined, assassinated and betrayed her characters the LKH did.
Husband Jon gets into a hissy fit on the blog. 'm not sure if this is going to be helpful or not, but I'm the kind of person to throw gasoline on a fire. sometimes it puts the fire out, sometimes it just makes it worse. In other words, this is proably going to offend most of you.
The Guest Book. It was originally intended to be a place for people to leave comments or little messages for us while we were out on tour. It served its purpose, and we are greatful for it. But then something happend. It became a hotbed of negitivity and name calling. If this was in the official forums, the offending parties would have been banned, the post moderated and everything kept nice and civil.
But it isn't part of the official forums. Its on the blog site, and that makes it mine and mine alone. I don't have to run things by anyone else to make a change in the background of the page. And the guest book is most definalty background. I've been considering for over a month if I should just trash the guest book, and point all the commenting over to the ofical forums. Make everyone play by the rules over there. I think it would be a little more pleasent it you had to deal with the fact that the bords are moderated and dseverly enforced. Mostly by the other memebers, long before one of the moderators has to step in.
I don't know what I'm going to do right now. but expect a change. and proably one that is less pleasent for you, the readers.

And then there is much fuss on the guestbook, as the fans of LKH rush into defend her honour:
I really just want to praise you for your hard work. I understand that others have been critical of you to the point where it is almost criminal. We all have our rights to our own opinions; however, they have to remember that with those rights come responsibility to express them appropriately, which they have not done. I had come to one part that made me uncomfortable, but I\'m certainly not going to complain when you have given me thousands of parts that give me smiles.
And the critics hit back:
me thinks jon wrote what he did to boost up the positive comments written by sycophants so when his wife reads it herself she wont be too shocked by the truth which is she is a very bad writer. i only read her for brain candy lkh was only a step up from harlequin romances on a good day now she is pretty much sunk even below that level with ID. She was never the great authour most of you seem to belive she was. She was a clever author but the best thing since sliced bread i think no. if you guys think that then you havent been reading enough books. Jon if you want to shut down the guestbook go ahead it wont stop your wifes sales from plummeting. we have the message board to vent our displeasure as consumers, and consumers we are. you will see the difference in sales soon enough. ID is already in the bargain bins. BTW LKH & co mpanies towards thier fan base is apalling.
There are so many pages of this stuff that I think it could keep you occupied for several hours, but that's pretty much enough for me.
