OMGWTFBBQ! How dare they hate our ship!
Yugioh shipping wank, slightly old but still amusing.

Someone creates a Jou/Mai hatelisting.

Members of the Jou/Mai LJ community are slightly upset.

The next day, umineko calls for healing. With "healing" being defined, apparently, as "go off and sulk in our corner of the playground fandom even though we are OMG so rite."

Seriously, why does it seem like the het ships are a bit more barmy than most of the slash ships? coughHarryPottercough. As an equal Puppyshipper and Polarshipper, I say this to fangurls: Please get out of one of my ships, you're frightening the characters with overenthusiatic squealing.

Just a theory, but probably because of their "reality / proof" level, so to speak. In most fandoms, the slashers know that the author / animation studio / comics company / etc. is not going to have a homosexual relationship in the story, at least overtly. Thus, the fanficcers are free to theorize and match anyone with anyone, while being tolerant of the likelyhood of any other 'ship. It's fiction about fiction, more or less.

For het, however, especially in ongoing works, there's a "competition" about which relationship will end up being the "true" story. The ficcers aren't just arguing over fiction, they're arguing over "reality".

Sometimes you get the crazy slashers too, of course, where people bring up huge debates over the level of subtext / things the author couldn't actually write at the time but *must* be true, etc, etc. But basically it comes down to clashing levels of personal reality, like most arguments. ;)

(Now, I come from a comics fandom, where over the course of 40 years, even the biggest OTPs can be broken up, and AUs show all kinds of relationships. Authors' intent isn't even enough, because it can be retconned tomorrow. There ain't nobody who has the right to claim "absolute truth", really. :)

Heh. I once read a essay that stated that Ron and Hermione *were* dating in OotP they just didn't tell anyone because...well I'm not sure why.

Something about how Harry might yell at them therefore they had to keep their relationship sekrit from the ENTIRE SCHOOL for the WHOLE YEAR.

Hazarding a guess, in YGO I like JouXMai more than JouXSeto myself, but that's the exception to the rule. I don't like most of the females in the show because I don't think Takahashi writes women characters well. Even Mai's characterization started to fall down after the first half of the series, imvho.

In other fandoms, don't know the reasoning...

Well, I haven't watched that much Yugioh, but I think Joey and Mai being at least interested in each other is kind of canon. So I can see what the poster meant, I just think they're stating it in a rather psychotic fashion.

I'm probably the only one who loves reading Yu-Gi-Oh in Shonen Jump because Yami Yugi is a sadistic little freak. Forget the pairings, give me the penalty games. (My favorite will always be the one where Yami Yugi manages to get the psycho killer to set himself on fire.)

I don't exactly ship Jounouchi/Mai since I think he's too immature for her now, and currently it seems it could be more related to possible Mommy/Sister issues since she's the Big Sister of the group and he doesn't live with his mother sicne many years ago.

Then again, I'm watching the Latin American dub of the YGO!Duel Master series. Nickelodeon's Latin American branch just finished the deal with Malik, and the local TV stations are barely done with the Noa arc. So, my opinion is still subjected to change.

'Sides, my YGO! OTP is the Anzu/Yuugi/Jounouchi threesome.

But... DUDE! I know better than BOTH:

1) making a hatelisting about a pairing I hate

and/or

2) bitching because my still-not-canon-though-strongly-hinted OTP is NOT worshipped by everyone else.

Sheeesh.

Man, I ship a practically UNcanon pairing (Seto/Anzu: snark, bitches, snark!), barely know the series, and I am dying over here.

Fandom is funny! You can totally ship everything! Best part!

(Really, it's not like Hogwarts isn't totally a sex resort by now. YGO's getting some residual hormones, maybe.)

Other hatelistings like Bakura/Anzu is okay cause they ARENT in love even though some ppl may like it.

So....hatelistings are okay only if the cnaracters aren't IN LOVE. Because if the fictional characters have a deep true fictional love, then it's just OMGsowrong.

They ARE in love because I read the manga and at the end Mai/Jounouchi get married! I think they have a kid too but I'm not sure...but in the new YGO GX series it says Joey got married and we all know it's to Mai now!

I dunno about the GX bit, but I know the end of the manga never said anything about any marrying. Hell, Mai wasn't even in the end of the manga, much less getting married. Besides, I figure Joey had a wild affair with his puppy costume and lived happily ever after.

And it's not like the lister was all that vicious, I think they had a good point.

Joey and Mai aren't that good for each other IMO. The age difference is one factor, and I while I like Joey I think he's just too immature for romantic relationship.

Plus we all know that JouxYuugi is frigging CANON.
