I ran here immediately after seeing the post on a site then checked out the wank monitor over on narutofan.com. Ah, the sweetness and the remembered whine of my friend as she agnoized months ago about Naruto becoming "Nathan" and Sasuke becoming "Seth."

I do admit some apprehension though since I am an avid follower of the series yet not willing enough to wank it up with the rest...

Naruto is popular on both sides of the water. Do they think that anime companies do not go to conventions or know how to search online? I'm surprised it wasn't licensed sooner. And I don't think the Naruto fans should worry, VIZ works close with 4Kids and FUNi and both of those companies have released uncut versions of certain shows they put on TV.* I have no doubt Naruto will get one as well. If they think that the merchandising here will be bad, they should search yahoo Japan auctions where the Japanese will slap an image on almost anything.

* I don't care what 4Kids does because they stated they are planning to release an uncut sub/dub ONE PIECE DVD at the end of the year. As long as I get that, Sanji can smoke all the suckers he wants on TV.

I must be the licensing fairy or something (I guess I should apologize?). It seems that right after I join a fandom the series gets licensed. Which is all well in good, provided I have money when the pretty dvds come out (food or anime, decisions, decisions)

I just wish they would have licensed it by season so as not to disrupt the subbing. I'm sure there will be fansubs, but they're going to be a bitch to find for a while *cue FMA licensing flashback of doom!*

I guess this means that Bleach can't be far behind (not that it would be a huge surprise for anyone)

While the news does pain me a bit, as long as it's not going to be showing on Fox, things should be okay. After all, I have my fansubbed boxsets. I don't need to watch the dub.

However, if Prince of Tennis ever gets liseanced (and you know it's only a matter of time), I will laugh and laugh. Let's see... they'd cut out all the crack/chibi episodes... remove all the slashy subtext... remove all the gratuitous body shots of young boys... remove Shiba, Sakaki and Hanamura's pedophilia...

Each episode would be 3 minutes long. And they'd draw in a tshirt over Nanjiroh's shiny bare chest.

I feel I need to confess something.
I don't like it when a series gets licensed, not because OMG they're going to RUIN it, but because there goes my source of anime.
I'm too broke to buy the dvd's when they come out, I don't have cable so I can't watch them on TV, and there's no place that rents anime dvds that's anywhere close to me.
That, and I generally like screwing businesses out of money every chance I get, so yay illegal fansubs!

I hope someone keeps fansubbing this. *whimpers* Naruto is ninja crack. I can pay for it, and I might, but there's a small problem.

They just fansubbed episode 121. So, at a generous 4 episodes per disc, that's 30 DVDs before VIZ catches up. At a release rate of one disc per month, that's 2 1/2 years before I get to see new subbed episodes.
(I'm assuming VIZ will release both versions on the same discs.)

Will I still be interested by then? Dunno. OMG! I may not be a "true fan"!

I have to admit that I quit watching Naruto ages ago, but from what I hear about where the anime was at, it is a pretty suspenseful cutoff point for the fansubs. Well, as far as "Naruto" actually gets suspenseful.

My response was spazzing, but not because OMG THEY'RE GOING TO RUIN IT (although a friend did enjoy torturing me with the things they could do to it ._.) but because, damnit, I'm 121 episodes into it and flat broke. Sure, I can watch it raw, but I totally miss the subtleties.

Plus, VIZ. Ew.

On the other hand, it's not like it's not going to be around with subs online any more. Don't these people realize that it's almost IMPOSSIBLE for a series that popular to stop being fansubbed ever after licensing? Look at FMA!

I can see why they complain, because hey - there's still some bad dubs out there that make you cringe and hug your subtitles like their your life's breath, but Jesus on a Fucking Pogo Stick, it's a show. If it's released, you're most likely going to get in on DVD. If you can't afford that, god only knows that there's someone out there still subbing it for free so you can fill your harddrive up with it.
