I figured I'd take my turn in christening this place with some Smallville wank. So, altricial and eleveninches are starting up a Luthorcest archive (and there was much rejoicing! hurray!). In an act of common courtesy, they e-mailed Sarah T. about exchanging links with the Level Three archive. Sarah recognized eleveninches as a member of one of the incarnations of fandom_wank, and snarkily turned her down.

We seem to have an increasingly long list of People Whom We Live to Persecute, each of whom expects us to devote 100% of our time to watching their every move in the hopes that they'll do something snarkworthy. I don't know about anyone else, but if I'm to continue in this endeavor I need a list of names, because I always forget who we hate, and one of those hourglass-thingies that Hermione had.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean criminy, /I/ don't even know the names of half the people who are or have been in this group. And people call us obsessed.

Nice to know however that we always have a source of wank if we need one, though. Kind of a security deposit.

In that article about Bush and conspiracy theories that was linked to in the fw blurty (I don't have the link right now; I'm on a university computer), there was a discussion of the argument style known as the "fruit loop": make one outrageous claim; when someone calls you on it, use a second outrageous claim as a justification; when someone calls you on that, make a third outrageous claim; and keep going until you reach the first outrageous claim again.

Kind of reminds you of her "FW is a bunch of shit-flinging bitches" rationale, doesn't it?

Hey, I think it's a matter of respect if you are opening an archive to ask the moderators of other archives if you can link them. Asking for reciprocal linking is common practice, I think. When I started Restricted Section, we linked lots of other HP sites regardless of personal opinion or not. You can have your own personal view of people/groups that you like or don't like, but if you're representing an archive, personal grievances just shouldn't come into the picture.

Of course, that is in a perfect world. I think this eloquently demonstrates how this world isn't perfect.

I wonder why she doesn't have any links to other sites on her website? Doesn't like to advertise the 'competition'?

I mean, that seems silly to me. When i had websites i would link to other people because 1) I couldn't possibly archive every bit on the subject and i didn't want to 2) There were plenty of other quality sites out there and i wasn't pigheaded enough to think no one deserved to find them and 3) Reciprocal linking is a great way to get more traffic to your own site.

Guess i just don't get why she doesn't do such things. For someone participating in a fandom she's very stingy.

This shit is hilarious, especially coming from someone who spends almost all their time mocking wankish ClarkLex posts and fics on their own blog, but yet, F_W is the Evil End of the Universe as we know it.

Is it because she doesn't name names? Anyone with access to the lists or the archives knows *exactly* who she's making fun out of/insulting, which strikes me as, what's that word again? Oh yes, disingenuous. Are we somehow poaching on her chosen domain? What's the deal? She LOVES the wank, she points and laughs at her fellow fen nearly every damned day! To paraphrase the woman herself ...

Are we supposed to believe that Sarah_T's feelings are really hurt because someone she didn't trust publicly posted her utterly personal and private email? Damn!

It's obvious to me that Sarah_T's agenda here isn't about peace or having those bad people leave her alone. It's about vengeance. The only wanks I've ever even seen about her have consisted of her blowing up whenever her name is mentioned and rounding up all of her friends on anti-f_w campaigns. It's been about trying to blackball f_w members and convincing as many people as possible that they should be scared because they could be next.

I don't know about you guys, but this nasty little persecution complex is getting on my nerves. Here's a doggy bag full of poo, Sarah_t. Now take it and go the fuck home. You're boring.

P.S. Yes, I'm reposting my rant. I didn't want it to be wasted just because I didn't bother to read the newsgroup news before ranting.

I was kind of under the impression that people didn't live to wank Sarah T. Is she ridiculously paranoid about fandom_wank? Well, I would have said so until now. Cause paranoia sort of implies that a person suspects something that isn't true. I mean, I read fandom_wank and I have nothing against the woman. But maybe she has a point in being so skittish. So someone emailed her, had an exchange with her, and then posted the entire thing without permission, with the purpose of...what? So she gets wanked. Again. Is it her fault for writing wanky email? Well, maybe. But just how wanky is her snark when....she was totally justified in being wary? I mean, she said, "you're pretending to be friendly but you'll wank me in a heartbeat", basically, and she was right. She might as well of been trying to prove a point.

I kind of understand the personal email angle, because I've had it done to myself, by someone who was pissed at me because I rejected an email they sent to a list I run (mmm moderation). But then again elveninches didn't post her email address or her IP address or talk trash about her archive, AND she allowed Sarah T to freely comment on the entry. Even if it was paraphrased though, that still would give f_w's detractors and Sarah T's friends ammunition to say that her words were misrepresented. Sometimes it's better to quote things word for word and let it speak for itself.

Wow. Somebody posts somebody else's private mail, and the person getting raked over the coals was the person whose mail was posted. Score one for fandom_wank consistency! To be fair, reposting mail is pretty rude. I wouldn't do it except behind filters and locks, eheheh and I'd be pretty mad if someone did it to me.

HOWEVER.

People often say nasty vicious BITCHY things in e-mail, things they would NEVER say in front of witnesses, because they're arrogantly confident that nobody else will ever see it but the target. Kinda like being behind the wheel of a car.
