I Come Bearing Looney Tunes Wankage......
I think hell just froze over with this.

Meet the NEW Bugs Bunny and friends....soon to be starring in a new series called "Loonatics".

Not only are they getting new looks, but new NAMES also. Meet Slick (Wile E. Coyote), Roadster (Road Runner), Spaz (Taz), Lexi (Lola Bunny), Duck (Daffy Duck) and Buzz (Bugs Bunny)..... **heddesk**
It seems WB, in an attempt to squeeze even more blood out of the stone that is Looney Tunes, has developed a new series called "Loonatics", taking old characters, and giving them new names and looks and special powers.

To quote one person from TWOP forums:
"That whirring noice you're hearing? Mel, Chuck, and Robert spinning in their respective graves."

Some of the fans decide that maybe we should give the cartoon a chance. That is, until the preview video makes its premier. Many now mourn the loss of their childhood.

The Official WB Messagboard is also a breeding place for indignation over what is being done to a classic.

Me? I just want to laugh that they are now calling him "Buzz".

Never mind, found it . . . I can't say I'm impressed, but I'm not violently ill either. They're obviously going with the descendants of the originals scheme.

.......

The trailer reminds me of bad fanfiction. If you're going to warp the characters that badly, why even use them? Just make a show about random super-animals. I mean, who had the bright idea of turning Looney Tunes into some tough and gritty adventure-thing? Just why?I'm not really disgusted so much as...confused.

Disney's already ruined with their dreaded OVA sequels.

I had hoped that even viewing the preview movie, it might be some bad internet parody of a Super Bowl commercial. But I see it isn't.

Once more TBTB have proved the well has run dry in creating new, interesting and three-dimensional characters. Instead, they have to bleed the original for all its worth -- and then some.

Hasn't anyone sat these suits down and explained that the original Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies weren't made for kids. Disney might have aimed somewhat for the kids market, but Warner's always made their cartoons topical, with lots of references that could only be understood by adults. It was one of the things that led to their ultimate longevity.

I think I'll go over in the corner and hug my Pinky & the Brain dolls, and whisper, "this, too, shall fail."

The thing I don't get about all this: they say that they're doing this because the original Looney Tunes don't appeal to today's children, but weren't they not for children to begin with? I've always heard that they were geared towards adults, then once people started seeing cartoons as a kid thing they just started showing them to their children.

I mean, other then Wile E. and the Roadrunner (which only kept my attention because of the thick concentration of slapstick) they bored me senseless as a little kid, then as I grew up and suddenly started to like it as the jokes that didn't involve someone getting hurt stopped flying over my head. If they want people to watch them then they should air them in the evenings when the parents and older siblings would be around to watch (heavens only know that if I were given a choice between watching Looney Tunes and watching most of the crap that's on during primetime these days I'd probably be watching Bugs six of the seven days of the week.)

Exactly! Scenes like that dog in an Elmer cartoon scooting his burning butt across the carpet before he stopped himself because "I might get to likin' it!" just weren't meant for kids. Or how about Little Red and the Wolf? Daffy drinking Ye Olde Panther? Tweety Bird cursing Damn Yankee Putty Tats? Sylvestor coming down off drugs birds. (See icon.) AIIIGH!

At least we have the originals. (If they haven't been edited to death.)

I LOVED Tiny Toons as a kid, but we also watched Looney Tunes. Watching Tiny Toons today is still fun, because it's full of jokes that I never would have understood as a kid.

Anyway, yeah, it does seem a little bit like overkill. Why not just come up with original, all-new characters? Why the Looney Tunes connection? I guess they figure that will help the show, but I don't know, given the reaction. That said...am I crazy, or does "Buzz" totally remind one of Frank from Donnie Darko?

Forget laughing about "Buzz," what about "Duck"? What the hell kind of name is *that* for some pretentious super hero?

And if he has any of Daffy's original qualities, you know he has to be pretentious. If he doesn't bitch once per episode about his name being "Duck," then this show is even more worthless than originall anticipated.
