wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank wank
Fandom = QAF-US
Wank potential = infinite
Latest saga = Brian/Justin vs. Brian/Michael shippers. The 20000000th encore.

To the people involved, backup versions of all posts have already been saved.
EDIT: Back to the Geocities version of the first post. Someone want to host this to stop the inevitable bandwidth problems? The original is available here to anyone who wants to add the community for long enough to see.

bonobochick (cross)posts an open letter to the B/M community to share her friend's "hate on" for the producers of Queer as Folk, which uses the words "degrading", "obnoxious", "bad", "sick fantasy". No "ships" are mentioned in the rant, but the words "deeply dysfunctional", used by some B/M fans to refer to the Ben/M or B/J pairings, are used. The rant is linked by the "ship-neutral" fandom newsletter In Babylon at the request of the original poster, and so the B/J shippers arrive, armed with the mighty knowledge that they must surely be welcome to comment because of the link, and convinced that the rant is all about them. And so, the wank begins.

zoisite84, a B/J shipper, shares that
"Brian and Michael are not going to hook up by the end of the series. It is more than an inkling and a gut feeling. I have proof. You're welcome." Disappointingly, she never shares her proof. In the same thread, quinnponders, a B/M shipper, contributes "You mean our voodoo ritual didn't work?! I KNEW we should've sacrificed the virgin B/Jer instead of the chicken! Dammit!" Pictures of voodoo dolls, cracks at the apparent virginity of B/J fans, references to the B/J mojo that was wanked on [info]fandom_wank a couple of months ago, follow.

pumpu, a B/J shipper, is upset that the B/Mers are being mean. Never fear, jurisenpai, quinnponders, and bonobochick, stalwart B/M shippers all, are at the ready to point out to her that a community named michaelandbrian is not what they would call "neutral".</a> pumpu continues to whine that they are being mean.

The wank goes on, and on, and on, on that very post. I'm too lazy to report it all. Feel free to go look.

The encore:

fishbutt, a B/M shipper, posts an icon of Justin with the words "this is your brain on drugs". juteux, a B/J shipper, is "disturbed".

burnitbackwards, B/J shipper at least for the moment, comes to the rescue with a photoshopped B/M icon announcing "this is your brain on retarded". The usual B/M suspects whine about this behind some friends lock or other, and burnitbackwards supplies them the cheese to go with that, reposting the entire thing publicly on her LJ.

Two hours later, burnitbackwards, the fandom's newest B/M shipper, is back with a change of heart and five new photoshopped B/M icons, announcing in a post called "OMG B/M FOREV", "dear friends, this note is to inform you that i have become a b/m shipper. that's right, it's true. sometime in the last two hours or so, i have seen the error of my ways and have vowed to give up the abusive, dysfunctional, disgusting pairing that is brian and justin. it's brian/michael forever, from now on. to celebrate, i have made some beautiful brian/michael icons. please feel free to take any of them that you would like, but only if you share my feelings that the brian/michael pairing is the best, healthiest, and most sexually arousing pairing of all time. sincerely, bibw
ps. fishbutt aka stinkycrotch and bonobochick aka monkeynuts (i love our nicknames for each other, my BFFs!!!), these are especially for you. thank you for being my new friends and welcoming me into the fold. i love you both so much!!!!!!!
pps. if anyone has requests of beautiful brian/michael icons that you would like for your own, please comment here and let me know!! i am so happy to devote my time to portraying the beautiful brian/michael relationship."

AAAAAAAND....SCENE.

To the people involved, all posts were made public. They have all been saved, down to the icons. If you friends-lock them, saved versions will be posted. Don't bother.

"hate on" for the producers of Queer as Folk

Things I learned from F_W:

the producers are always wrong.

The version you haven't seen or read is always better.

Wow, if they wank this hard over slash pairings I'd hate to imagine someone saying they liked a HET pairing in the series, if there are any het possibilities. O_o;

in the case of queer as folk, can they really be called "slash" pairings? i'm not really up to snuff on my fanfic/shipping lingo...

people are so funny when they're upset, don't you think? :))

also, it's funny but nobody really gets too bent out of shape with het pairings, rare as they may be, which is probably because either the episodes themselves or the backstory have shown almost every gay character having sex with a member of the opposite sex. go figure.

Queer as Folk UK = drama, 6 hours of well-written television, fallible but loveable characters who have all have spines.

Queer as Folk US = soap, way more than 6 hours of television, cardboard cut-out characters that took the extreme basic personalities of their UK versions while forgetting the parts that actually made them loveable.

...yeah. Granted, I gave up on the US version after a season, but, well, yes. The US version is a soap. The UK version... isn't.

I'm going to stop before I wank all over this thing.

Oh man. We really are the wankiest fandom ever. I'm a member of that B/M community, and a few other members and I were talking about the post when it was first made. B/J and shipping never even came up. We just thought it was a cool idea of jumper232's to write the open letter.

I swear, I leave for a freaking day, and it's turned into a huge wank, with the crazy B/J-ers trolling the community and ranting and name-calling and what have you. *rolls eyes* Don't get me wrong. I ship. I'm a hardcore B/M-er who can't stand Justin or B/J, but I hate ship wars even more. God, just because someone doesn't like your pairing doesn't mean you get to bash them. Kay?

To Whom It May Concern:

I, in fact, wrote the original open letter. I posted it on my LJ where Bonobochick saw it. She asked if I wanted/minded if she posted it to a few other places. My response was, obviously, go to town. So, to the people who have said that she is a coward for posting “her rant” without signing her name, you are, clearly, mistaken. To the people who have said that I was a coward for letting it be posted without my user name attached, I can say only this, I didn’t attach my user name to it because it was meant to be my last QaF post. My swan song, if you will. I didn’t want to deal with any people who might, wrongly, take offense. However, that plan has been blown since you may, if you wish, talk about me till the cows come home but when you start in on my friends then I have to say something. So, here I am. Just when I thought I was out you pulled me back in, to quote a horrible movie.

I think that I should, of course, say, for the record, in case there is any doubt, that I was, once upon a time, a fan of QaF. I was, in fact, a fan of B/M (cannon or not cannon is not the question, it’s just my preference). I have, on many occasions, stated my disbelief and displeasure with how the B/J relationship has played out. I find it dysfunctional and, quite honestly, dull. That having been said, I feel the same way about B/M, Be/M, M/L, T/B and, until he comes out of the closet (apparently in S5), D/E. The original post, however, had nothing...let me repeat that, in case you missed it...nothing to do with any “ship”. It was, if you read it, about my displeasure with how the producers have run their show and, yes, in some small part, my displeasure with the segments of the fan base who believe that stalking is their God given right. Also, let me again say, that I hold the producers culpable, in a way, for letting the stalker situation get rather out of control.

Now, before you all jump on the words “their show”, yes, I know. It is their show. They may run it in any way they see fit. (Why? Because Showtime doesn’t know how to draw a contract, apparently, but that’s not the point.) They may, if they choose, fire anyone who doesn’t agree with them. They may dismiss any and all critics from all sides as homophobes who just don’t get it. They may, if they like, tell the actors, when they are displeased with the way that their character is being developed (or not, as the case may be) to go and fuck themselves. They have the right to keep people who are deeply displeased tied to the letter of their contract. They may, in short, run their show into the ground and dance the night away while they do it. That’s up to them. People signed contracts. They are adults who understood that it was a legally binding agreement. I take no exception with these practices. Have at it, I say.

However, when they are aware that the people who work for them are being stalked by people who call themselves fans and do nothing to keep people away from the outdoor sets, then I have a problem with that. When they are aware that people who work for them have had to take out restraining orders against “fans” and still insist that they show up to badly secured fan events, then I take that as unfeeling and, if I may, negligent behavior. Now, don’t get me wrong, I know that all people in the public eye have to deal with this. I understand that. I don’t understand why they can’t secure the perimeter of their set. I don’t understand how they allow, through poor planning and security, events to become so out of control that people are attacking the actors. I don’t, in short, understand why they have not taken proper care of the safety of the people who work for them. I don’t understand why they have chosen to ignore the fact that they are placing people in danger.

Okay, so this person complaints about dysfunctional relationships and omg nude scenes?!
Dysfunctional relationships are only realistic. Not everyone will have a fairytale romance. That's one of the things I like about QAF - it's realistic, no matter how cruel the reality may be.
And nude scenes. Pfffft. That just screams out, "I dun liek it wen the pairing I h8 getz it on liek whoa in teh show!!!!! it must stop!!111".

Oh, right. Attacking writers. I think QAF was pretty much drama-soap to begin with. Just, you know, gay and with more nude scenes.

I don't understand the point of this at all. Honestly, of course the B/Mers and the B/Jers aren't going to get along. They share one of the characters. So far in the series Michael has still gotten things from Brian that Justin hasn't and Justin's gotten things Brian hasn't. The show is so badly written at this point, is it really worth the time for this wank? I think it's hilarious though that B/J fans are suddenly up in arms that B/Mers are making anti-Justin icons so much so that they're making anti-Michael icons. I've seen comments that say things like how dare they talk about Justin like that and don't fuck with Justin. What do they think spurred on that kind of thing? I have friends in both camps because I'm pretty damn impartial myself. I hate all the characters equally and am just in it to find out the ending. I've seen anti-Michael icons long before I've seen any of these anti-Justin ones. There's also been plenty of Michael bashing in commentaries (just look at What Love Means for example) and in fanfic. So forgive me if I don't find it shocking that the B/Mers might decide to take their annoyance out on Justin as well.

We're talking about Brian Kinney, right? Dysfunctional is his middle name and he'll never have a normal relationship. I think it's funny how all the B/M shippers have ignored 4 years of comments and canon that show that the American version is not a carbon copy of the English. Stuart used Nathan from the beginning. Brian has tried to nurture and protect Justin from the beginning. Big difference.
