Wankery Without Pity
Let us consider the plight of the TWoP recapper. To slave away at their art for the teeming, uneducated, less-gifted masses must be an arduous task. Should the recapper not be exalted, praised for her service and sacrifice?

Alas, sometimes they are not, as Pamie discovered when she posted a link to this recap of a recent Gilmore Girls episode. It turns out that one TWoP reader, "Katie," didn't like the recap so much, and very politely explained why. After several comments of agreement, recapper extraordinaire Omar G uses an odd home decorating metaphor to berate the ungrateful currs. More recappers step in to deliver self-righteous hissyfits respond to such scathing, hateful criticisms as "usually love your recaps. I hope your future ones live up to what I know you're capable of." Hilarity ensues.

Back to the source wankage: may I just say that Hrubec's "You have created a managed care environment" has to be one of the best descriptors yet.

It's not a good idea to email criticism either, as "Goofy McTwatTwat" found out:

"No dice, Goofy McTwatTwat! I don't refer to Boone, God's Friggin' Gift to Humanity as Boone, God's Friggin' Gift to Humanity because it's funny. I refer to Boone, God's Friggin' Gift to Humanity as Boone, God's Friggin' Gift to Humanity because that is the man's proper and full name. So it would be rude of me to shorten that full name, just as it would be rude of me to shorten your full name, Goofy McTwatTwat. "

...and here I thought I had to stretch it to be witty. This is exactly why I stopped reading the Lost recaps after the 2nd or 3rd ep and have been hanging out at [info]cleolinda's ever since. The unfunny is *so* unfunny it's astonishing--I'm honestly boggled at how you could take a show as unintentionally hilarious as Lost and end up with 12 pages of dreck like this.

While "Grow Up" is making some good points, the Nazi comparison isn't gonna help things. Why does no one ever make a comparison to Peronist Argentina, I wonder?

My problem with TWOP is that whenever I try and post anything, their server craps out.

Someone just sent me this INCREDIBLY unfunny video link to Sars (Sarah) and Wing Chun (Tara) "debating" Oscar predictions on MSNBC. Wow.

Also, TWoPs servers are down yet AGAIN for some sort of something. The more things stay the same... hey, wait a minute!

But even when the servers are down, you're seeing the Yahoo ads. They make money regardless.

Oh...my God. Pamie has passed Anne Rice on the ARTISTE wank scale.
Gilmore Girls - Behold! The perfect recap. No, really. No. Really.
She starts off quoting the infamous "flame" and then goes into "Eeeee!" fangirl mode. See how far you can get.

Her issues make me cry.

Wow. That was just... wow. Pamie officially has no class.

I'm pretty disappointed to see something I like sullied by wanky behaviour. If she kept her issues about this shit out of her recaps, I'd be fine, but now she's just smacking it around. She took up an entire fucking page!

I love[d] TWoP, but that's just too damn much.

Just when I didn't think she could be a bigger douche bag.

Someone constructively criticizes you, and so they're either tweens or lonely old women? Why, because they take their favorite shows seriously? This coming from a person that writes for a fucking television website. She's the most mind-bogglingly hypocritical person I think I've ever come across.

Also, way to fuck up yet another recap. Because god knows I want to hear all about your issues when I'm reading about a show I happen to like.

What the hell is Pamie's problem? I'm tempted to write a letter to her. It wouldn't be a wanky thing to do. I'd be helping her by giving her material for her next recap, because apparently, she's incapable of doing the job she was paid to do.

Too bad I'm so damn lazy.

This whole thread gets a "word". I don't even like the shows they recap, I selfishly did not buy stickers, mousepads, or lavish praise upon the mediocrity, just posted in the OTT threads. Oh, it's like watching PBS without donating! The shame, the horror!

The amount of Stee splooge flowing in the comments thread makes me fear that whatever sex life he and Pamie may once have enjoyed is over for now, to whit:

"I understand not everyone likes the way the TWOP boards are moderated, but to even suggest that without moderating the boards would be a place for "intelligent conversation" shows me someone who has never seen the Internet.

Go visit Aint It Cool News and read the boards; that's what TWOP would be without moderating. And you know what? TWOP has been around, generating income, for a lot longer than most sites have. Do you think for one second that perhaps the fact that boards aren't allowed to descend into chaos is perhaps (along with smart, talented writers) the reason?

Laugh and point all you want, Hrubec, bitch. We still clockin' dollars. What WHAT!?!?!

The problem with TWoP is that they are generally greedy asshats and all want money; yet they refuse to treat the patrons of the site as customers. Anyone that doesn't kiss ass is usually banned. They also tend to have it in for certain characters or personalities on shows, and their fans are just DOOMED.

Classic examples - Spike on BtVS, Wesley on Angel and Clay Aiken from American Idol. Shack had it out for Clay fans. Articulate, intelligent and sure, fangirly ramblings on Clay usually provoked mass bannings. However, grammatically incorrect spewing about how Clay Aiken is a flaming, bitchy diva? That slid by without a whisper, despite their supposedly strigent rules on grammar and spelling. Anyone that praised Clay was out, anyone that hated him was fine by Shack. It was such bullshit.

None of the recappers at TWoP are as self-aware as they think they are. Jessica is wicked and I used to love Johanna's O.C recaps - but the rest of them? Meh. They're too busy snickering amongst themselves at their own 'cleverness' to actually be, ya know, funny anymore.

Hi. Someone upthread mentioned Camper's booting, and to this day I've been dying to know why, specifically. I loved her QaF recaps, she seemed interesting in the show doing better, and it showed in her interview with "Ted" from the show. But it was like, poof...gone. And god help you if you asked who, what, when, or why. So...anyone know why she was replaced?
