The popular webcomic Queen of Wands ended yesterday, with a strip that had a few words of wisdom about life and death.

Today, Something Positive, another popular webcomic that has done several crossovers with QoW, updated with a strip drawn in the QoW style, depicting QoW's main character being hit by a car.

Wank occurs.

Unless something's exploded in the last hour, the whole thing struck me as much *less* hysterical than I'd expected when I saw the SP episode. Even on the QoW journal, people seemed to mostly found it funny.

Yeah, a few people (out of several hundred posts) whining about S*P being "mean" (which presumably is why most people read S*P anyway) isn't what I'd call wank. Even the people whining seem to realize it's just a comic strip and not worth getting worked up about. Not wanky at all.

I think I was very glad I defriended the QoW community after getting sick of 'I really love QoW and Aerie and am sorry it's going!' posts. And, considering the size of the community that reads one or both of these comics, I'm actually surprised there isn't a large amount of wank.

Yeah, but CxN was a response to S*P - an homage, if you will. Part of why makes CxN funny is that it's allowed to be self-referential to the world of webcomics, as Chex is a struggling webcomics star...

I never even heard of QoW until this wank, and when I saw it I just thought it was badly drawn, unfunny, and couldn't understand how it had a following.
Same sentiments for S*P actually, though slightly less so. "Mary Sue Insert and His/Her Wacky Roommates and Gaming Buddies" just doesn't interest me much so most webcomics aren't appealing to me at all.
