Yet another HP house wank
A mouse reported this wank a couple days ago.
ataniell93 is a Slytherin fan. This irks
reader_zero (whom I know we have seen before) enough to "stand up to" [Read: Tell Off]
atanielle93 in her journal.
reader_zero is subsequently banninated.
I like this wank enough to report it because both sides are pretty wanky (although RZ totally started it). ataniell93 gives her side of it here and here, while
reader_zero rebuts here and here.
From
reader_zero (justifying the need to troll):
Enter ataniell93. She's a fangirl for the Harry Potter fandom. What's worse, she's a Slytherin fangirl.
Let me tell you a bit about Slytherin fangirls. They identify with and worship characters from the Slytherin House, characters we know from the books that Joanne Rowling expected us to clearly see as "teh villains". What with the Dark Lords and the rich bastards and the Death Eaters and the goons and all that.
Slytherin fangirls, (not to be confused with Slytherin fans. They're actually sensible, because they accept their House as the bastards they are) they don't like this. You see, they don't want to see themselves as evil...and yet they still find Alan Rickman and Tom Felton "teh sexors." So what they do is try to validate Slytherin by making them out to be...ehhhhhhhh not so bad.
.....
So I think to myself, I think "She can afford one dose of realty, right? One isn't going to harm her."
.....
I write to her, without ever insulting her personally, that she's obviously biased, that Slytherin-centrics are the worst people to do a House analysis because they build up Slytherins and take down Gryffindors. It's to be expected, they nearly all do. And it's simply because they choose to identify with a House that Joanne Rowling obviously intended us to realize that they were mostly not the good-guys. I then finished by telling her that she'd be better off accepting canon.
And then from ataniell93 (who gets a little self-righteous):
If I'm wrong about Gryffindor producing Crusader types, then why, I wonder, did Gryffindor Tower end up becoming a haven for obnoxious fundamentalists and racists that fell apart when the mods had driven everyone else out and started fighting with each other? Why did the Sugarquill have, for ages, a statement up on their site that theirs was the only site you could 'safely' find 'canonical fanfiction' and that other sites were full of disgusting porn? Why is the Sugarquill always staring on Fandom Wank? Nox et Lumos was never on Fandom Wank. I have never seen Sycophant Hex on Fandom Wank...
Why do Ron/Hermione shippers make up Evil Operative journals and troll the journals of Harry/Hermione shippers, and why do Harry/Hermione shippers fight back? Why do Gryffindorks care so much about whether or not their fanfic and their pairings are canonical? How can that be possible? Even if JKR does write Hermione settling down with one of the boys, it's still not going to happen the way it did in your fic!
The Slytherin fandom doesn't have ship wars. If people on an archive don't like the main thrust of that archive they go off and start their own.
The only time the Slytherin fandom ever shows up on FW is when Joanne makes the accusation reader_zero repeated in his rant, which is that we all have crushes on Tom Felton and Alan Rickman. And that we don't understand what she's trying to say. (Actually, Jo, we do understand what you're trying to say. It's just that you haven't convinced us. That isn't our fault. Since we're giving you our money anyway, be gracious and take it without insulting us, k?)
nights_mistress summed it up nicely when the wank was originally reported:
Dear fandom,
The houses aren't real. Associate with them all you like. I'll still laugh at you.
Love
Nights Mistress.
