WHY YOU TALKING TO ME LIKE YOU KNOW ME?!
Over in the Fan Soundtrack community on LJ, people are getting nervous. The fine folks at Yousendit are changing policy around a bit. There is, logically, a discussion of self-hosting MP3s.

[info]sjdr will host you- FOR A PRICE!

[info]tokyofish sweatdrops. [info]sjdr FREAKS OUT! and [info]tokyofish is "not going to argue music theory or arrangement, or any kind of that intellectual crap with you." She is, however, going to argue.

Okay, about yousendit with the blah and hmm and the you shall not pass thing. Can't people just cut and paste the link into their url bar thingy up top the browser and get the music or what-have-you without causing a meltdown on yousendit not wanting to deal with LJ traffic?

I've only been half-assed following that whole thing unfolding across the music comms.

It's not "livejournal" per se so much as "they are seeing too much traffic", so if the traffic keeps up even from different sites, they'll probably start limiting the number of times any one file can be downloaded. Which goes back to square one.

Ah, ta. That makes more sense then. http://www.dropload.com http://www.filecloud.com http://www.sendthisfile.com

Same issue, though, when you get down to it.

Bandwidth isn't free, and advertising will only go so far.

Is there some catch to FileCloud that I'm not getting? 100 free MB?

No idea. I just spelunked for likely alternatives.

It's a new site, doing that for promotional purposes. Like LJ's Early Adopter stuff.

So no, unless you define "catch" as "will not always be available".

I was actually planning on reporting this one if no one else had already put it up.

With the amount of fangirls who think that Gackt honestly does sum up Remmy and Luppy-chan's relationship vs. the snarky fangirls who cry havok if you DARE put a song on your FST that's been put on the radio, I was kind of expecting this to happen sooner.

Do they also use System of a Down's "Chop Suey" for every fandom in which angels appear? Or worse, The Goo-Goo Doll's "Iris"?

Because, dude... we already have songfics for that stuff.

Actually 'Chop Suey' has been used -once- and yes, it was for a Lucifer FST durring comic month, but it was a tounge in cheek track for a good FST with ya' know.. intresting songs that fit the characters.

As for Iris. I think that one got thrown into a drinking game some people put up once. I think Iris has been so frequently used that there's now an "Iris Law" or something where you automatically LOOSE your FST if you have Iris in there.

(not like I should talk. I over use Tori Amos for my FST's...)

Sigh. At least you still *have* your FSTs reserved. I just opened up my flist to find that someone ganked the one I've been working on for months.

::would be more annoyed, but is too damn tired and hadn't been paying attention for the last few days anyway:: Mrg.

I'm hearing something about http://anonym.to/ being helpful--they give you directions on how to stick that in front of your url, and after that, yousendit.com theoretically wouldn't be able to tell where the downloaders were coming from (i.e., from mp3 blogs).

You know, we needed free photo hosting, and eventually someone caught on to this and we got Photobucket, etc. We needed ways to send large files, and yousendit.com showed up. I'm thinking someone's eventually going to realize that mp3 blogs get people listening to (AND POSSIBLY BUYING, HINT HINT) new and different music (I know audiography has expanded my horizons, for one). I know there are legal problems, but I think eventually someone's going to see the need and answer it with advertising. ; )

Domaindlx is better than Photobucket--it doesn't resize your stuff. Mmm, competition.
