Clock Wank
Not precisely wank, but not non wank either. Baby wank?

Anyways, so Microsoft holds its own internal tech fair to keep employees up to date on all the electronic goodies being developed in MS labs worldwide. Some engineers have designed a clock based on the Weasley family clock and since the blurb isn't gushing over with praise for the fact that the clock was originally JKR's idea, fans air their disgust.

That is a direct rip-off of the clock generated by Mrs. JK Rowling's brilliant imagination. There is no other explanation. I am sure the techies who "inevnted" it proably didn't read the books or they would have given her credit. I bet they saw it in the movie and figured it was just put there by the director so it didn't really count as intellectual property. This is insanity. The very least they could have done would been to aknowledge it was JK's idea and not their's. Lousy Microsoft theives!!!!!!

I like it when folks who have no knowledge of intellectual property law--or copyrights, business, invention, patents, spelling, computers, clocks, basic brain functions, the value of keeping one's mouth shut--try to educate the general public on such matters, especially in relation to the courtesies involved. Because that is just classic. And, Lilison? STFU.

Not to mention the brilliant logic of "I bet they don't even know it was JKR's!" all of two sentences away from "at least they could have given JKR credit!"

So, are all the people who use this thing going to need to carry around a GPS system with them or something? Come on Seattle Times, give us details!

I'm just disappointed that there's no spot for Mortal Peril. I know that it would never actually be used (unless it was set to go there when whatever tracking thing they have on you's destroyed), but what's the point of having a Weasley-style clock if visitors aren't always wondering if it's seconds away from telling me that my dog's about to get hit by a car or something.

Damn my lack of activation code... *grumbles*

If I recall, I've seen a couple other clocks like the Weasley's before in other fantasy books... Not to mention having thought of something similar myself before the books were even written.

Fans make me very, very sad...

How do you get a code? I've looked at the FAQ but there wasn't anything that said how you generate invites, or whether that's only available to paid users(I've only got a free account), or what. I'm sure I saw someone send someone else to create a new account recently.

I don't know, I assume it needs an activation code because to create a journal it asked for a code... *shakes fist and scowls* I know on LJ and DJ there was a special page to show codes users already with journals could generate codes and send them to a friend...

I thought there might be such a page, but it hides from me, if it exists.

Maybe someone who's done it will comment here...?
*hope hope hope*

Apparently there used to be a help entry about it(it's linked to from another help topic), but it's gone now, and I remain,

This reminds me of those clocks you put on a dorm room door saying where you are or what you're doing. That's probably where the idea came from, not the Harry Potter books.

Those of us old enough to remember Visicalc are remarkably unsurprised at Microsoft stealing anything that's not nailed down, and coming back with a power nail puller for the stuff that is.

Finally! I am not alone in the garden! Someone else knows of how Microsoft steals everything gleefully. *cough*Jet, anyone?*cough*

And yet, the wankers won't even let me burn music. DOUBLE STANDARDS, I CRY!

No, I've not been trying to create a backup copy of a friend's disc. Not at all. Now where did I put Nero...?

OWN a Sinclair; been hanging around computer geeks since modems conected with telephone handsets and all printout was via teletype.

Remember when it was possible to drive through Redmond at 8am and not see a Porsch, or a stoplight.

Old. And Mac based.

Not to mention magic, unicorns, werewolves, the ability to transform into animals from a human shape, the word Muggle... Yes, she is so much more original than anyone. ::rolls eyes::

You know actually, one time I got into an argument with someone who claimed that JKR didn't steal anything and came up with everything on her own. I then pointed them in the direction of The Arthurian Legend and promptly got an apology. ^_~

That's worse than the time my boyfriend and I walked out of the cinema after having seen The Two Towers, and this kid says "What movie did you go see?" and the bf says "Lord of the Rings." The kid says: "Was it good?" BF says: "The books were better." Then the kid says (with look of horror mixed with incredulity): "It's a book?!"
