Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Please Read

Not everyone on Journalfen has the system account friended, and this decision comes down from the Journalfen admins themselves.

Frienditto will be blocked from working with Journalfen, and they ask that people do not link to Frienditto content from Journalfen.

So there you go.

Awesome. LJ Drama suck. But question; if they can be blocked, why haven't Six Apart done so, too? Anyone know?

But like, if massive archiving of content is illegal, are Google and archive.org screwed or what?

Google doesn't archive friendslocked posts, and it won't archive journals that are blocked from index-spiders. This isn't about whether it's legal or not, anyway. It's more an extension of the general rule around here that friendslocked=no go.

If frienditto didn't have the capacity to archive friendslocked posts, I doubt there would be any of this fuss going on.

I'm not entirely sure I get this. Frienditto allows you to archive stuff? But what's the use of that for LJ, that's got a memories function. For the archiving of other URL there's the favourites list. I don't get what frienditto is trying to do, and I don't get what all the fuss is about.

I think the whole kerfluffle over Frienditto is ridiculous. I can't wait till it dies down so that everyone on LJ will shut up. No one cares what's behind f-locked posts anyway. "OMG I farted in class today ><;;;;" Whatever. And that ditto_cop thing is irritatingly self-righteous. What is this shit, an LJ version of a sex-offender list? If you don't want people posting your friends-only posts, then screen the people you allow to read your friends-only posts. Frienditto just makes it easier to do what would previously take screencaps/save-page-as/free-hosting to do. I can't communicate my level of disgust that people are taking this whole thing so goshdarned seriously.

At least it's a small community, at the moment, and none of the entires have responses, so let's hope it dies on its own.

If there's something really private, that you don't want people to know, don't fucking post it on the internet.

Maybe just, I don't know, invest in a paper journal?

I must be kinda dense. I still don't get the big beef with this. Even if someone does archive a f-locked post on there, doesn't that mean that just that one post is archived?

Aren't we then assuming that the operators have nothing better to do all day that to retrieve passwords and logins from their database to get into people's friends lists on the off chance that there might be something juicy on it?

Isn't that - dare I say it - slightly paranoid?

Here's a thought - if you want to tell your friends your phone number/address etc - e-mail them. If you want to bitch about a shitty day at work - call a friend. I can guarantee that most people on your f/list will scroll through those posts anyway, so why bother sharing it. If it's private, then lock it as private and *no-one* can see it - not even FD. Unless you're one of the many people who appear to be dumb enough to give a strange website their login and pass - in which case, you deserve all you get.

I'm not really that worried about my flist posting flocked posts, because I don't think most of 'em know about this. Unless you frequent things like ljdrama.org or f_w or something like that, you wouldn't read about it, because you're just not in that internet circle. If you're the kind of person who reads her flist, frequents a couple of fan-communities and that's it, you wouldn't read about this kinda thing quickly.

Seems Frienditto aren't so userfriendly after all:

http://www.livejournal.com/community/ditto_cops/

Turns out Frienditto DOES cache passwords and DOES attempt to gain access to your journal. Jameth found out the hard way when he started taking issue with Frienditto policies. Since Jameth had already used his LJ credentials on Frienditto, they used his information to delete his journal

I won't say it's not a bit of instant karma, but this is creepy!
