The FMA splooge never stops. Not a wank, but very wanky.

Fans make new community, [info]fma_sanity. Can't you smell the elitism already? Anyway, looking through the rules, they make some idiots of themselves with the rule of no "elricest" [Main character's are brothers, there's incest, etc.], but then the rules goes on to say not to be wanky and claim your own ideas as canon. I'm sure you guys will find some gems in there as well.

P.S. to the mods: Any Fullmetal Alchemist community is going to be wanky. It's almost an internet law.

Edit. And, what's more, we have to take a special sanity quiz to join in! Aren't we special.

consider this place an area where members can discuss the brothers as brothers, not lovers. It's entirely possible to love someone deeply and passionately AND platonically at the same time

But...but...what if I want to discuss discuss Roy and Riza as people who love each other deeply, passionately AND platonically at the same time, but these other FOOLS see them as a romantic couple? I have to put up with them?! Where are MY rights? :O *Internet sobz*

I think that any fandom_sane community made because of a wanky fandom will become wanky itself. Looking over the rules, it won't take very long. And when it does, I bet someone will blame the stoopid CN-lovin' dubbie n00bs for making the fandom suck.

There's a name rule too. Why is that such a big deal? I used to be in the Slayers fandom where there were dozens of different spellings for the same name. Even Central Park Media and Central Park Media Manga have different spellings for some of the characters. There are only a few instances I can think of where the character's name and the way it's spelled is important but not usually. "Lina" or "Rina"? Who cares?

2) If you personally don't care for a pairing or a pairing-genre (maleslash [yaoi], femslash [yuri], het), how do you handle it when it comes up?
Apparently, by creating a comm where that pairing isn't allowed.

4a) on that token, no pairings which involve Person A Over 18 and Person B Under 18 (although this is flexible if there's only a few months - a year or so between the ages; that gray area all teenagers in a relationship usually wind up skirting.)

So basicaly no slashing the Elric brothers... Untill the movie at least. Though what if you set it in a few years time? How to make a wanky st of rules even more wanky? Make them completely ambiguous. That way all members have to read the mods minds to avoid trouble.

1) Someone posts an observation of a show or a theory regarding the show or characters which you don't agree with. What do you do?

Lurk.

2) If you personally don't care for a pairing or a pairing-genre (maleslash [yaoi], femslash [yuri], het), how do you handle it when it comes up?

Lurk.

3) True or False: If my opinions in a fandom are at odds with the majority of a community, I should attempt to sway the community over to my views, rather than seeking out others who agree with me and joining their community.

Ummm...can I just lurk instead?

How is that on the same token as no Ed/Al? Ed/Al is one of the few pairings in the series to fit that age distinction. *snerk*

*YAAAAAWN* This wank was on my friends page a few days ago. It was sad and scary then, and it's sad and scary now.

Anyway, looking through the rules, they make some idiots of themselves with the rule of no "elricest"

I'm... still trying to see why this is wanky. It's their comm. FM_alchemist is supposedly full of Elricest, and morons squeeing all over the place about Elricest. (NOTE: before you start flaming me because I OMG insulted your OTP, I don't think all Elricest fans are morons.) So they don't want it. *shrug* You don't see people in other fandoms getting wigged out because someone started a comm that doesn't allow Zel/Lina (which is pretty surprising, given Slayers fandom's penchant for wank. That should tell you something).

I actually don't see what's so wrong with them getting sick of FM_alchemist and founding their own comm, anyway, either. It's not like they kicked up a shitstorm on any other comm about it. It's not a rating's community. They're not being nasty to anyone over it. They just wanted their own place to discuss things without people jumping all over them for not liking one pairing or the next.

The name could be a little better, but really, what's the difference between these guys and "Sanity, Please!"? Only "Sanity, Please!" actually goes out of its way to prove that DomLijah doesn't exist. FMA_Sanity only partitioned off their own little corner of the intarweb for their own amusement - and the title refers more to sanity in conversations than sanity in pairings.

Also, from the comm info:

Please be aware: although there are topics and issues outlined as not permitted, this should in no way be interpreted as meaning that anyone who DOES like those things is NOT a "sane fan". That was never the intention. The name fma_sanity is two-folded in meaning. We avoided wank by making a place we could play without bothering them, and we further avoid wank by making some, yes, somewhat harsh rules. We don't want people coming into our corner that we made so we wouldn't bother them and stirring up shit and bothering us. We're actually trying to make a live-and-let-live situation. This also means we will NOT tolerate comm members starting wank with fen they disagree with. We won't put up with it coming in OR going out. We aren't interested in fighting - just in our own little quiet corner of the fandom sandbox.

Gosh, that's *sure* wanky of them! O_o Uhhh, right.

And if you're wondering about some of the 'correct' answers to that quiz...

8a) on that token, leave the sub vs. dub/Japanese vs. English voice actors argument alone. That horse has been not only beaten to death, but gutted, stuffed, mounted, and then revived by necromancy and then beat to death again. Please. Won't somebody think of the ponies?

Damn, what bitches! Why *not* rehash sub v. dub for the 8 millionth time?

7) There will be NO attempt at Japanese-izing Edward and Alphonse's names. Their names, given to them canonically by the Japanese creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, are Edward and Alphonse. Ed and Al for short. Period. DO NOT CALL THEM Edo or Aru. Ever.

This one *did* kinda get me, though. O_o I can see how it could be annoying (as all fuck. For Christ's sake, people, you *know* what they're saying), but that's a bit of an over-reaction in my book.

P.S. to the mods: Any Fullmetal Alchemist community is going to be wanky. It's almost an internet law.

With you on that one. FMA as a fandom scares me *so* much. And I fully expect to have at least five anonomyce and two actual members of F_W flame me for *this* reply.

I'm really beginning to fucking hate FMA fandom.

Mm, this occurs to me. I would love to join a sane community, without all the spam on fm_alchemist. But look, I'm obviously not welcome, being a EdAl, RoyEd, HavocAl, Hawkeye/Winry (and a lot more) fan. It sucks being singled out because you're not exactly like them. -_-

If I was half less lazy, I'd go and make a real sane community. There would be rainbows and bunnies and love for everybody and only two rules; Thou Shall Not Wank and Thou Shall Not Spam. That sounds so nice it's never going to happen. *sighs and returns to fm_alchemist*

It doesn't seem all that wanky to me. *shrug*

Meh. I still can't stand reading fm_alchemist on a regular basis, so I can't blame people for trying to take the party elsewhere.

I doubt it'll amount to much anyway, though; they could have just used the pre-existing fma_sane instead of starting up their own comm (IIRC, that one was created back when FMA was first licensed and the wank was hitting a post or more per day around here).

Myself, I simply like how being a Roy/Ed fan or an Elricest fan automatically disqualifies one from 'sanity'.

It would hurt if it weren't so true! =D

I've seen some people argue that fanfiction.net is wrong to not allow NC-17 fiction on their site, when it is their website. And this is their comm. If they don't want certain sorts of people in their community, then I believe that's their right.

They ban hot button issues, especially incest. Seeing as there is constant wank whenever elricest shows up, mentioning it specifically seems more a judgment against incessant bickering than against the pairing.

Further, it doesn't strike me as a rude way to go about it. The quiz seems to be aimed at seeing if the answers to the questions were wanky, and the rules give most of the answers the community mods want.

So, it looks like a few people trying to find a way to have a polite community. They even acknowledge that some people may be excluded simply because they are not like-minded, because that is the mechanics of how people get along. That strikes me as realistic, and polite of them to acknowledge.

It may be wanky, I suppose, but they do seem to be going out of their way to get a community of members that don't throw regular hissyfits. I don't see that as bad thing, and they're going about it fairly delicately.

May be wrong. Seems a fine goal with no real graceful way to achieve.
