Tipped off by a post on Fanthropology, behold Jeffrey "Oneshot" Wong.

(Allegedly) ShoPro (the company formerly known as Viz) sends him a cease and desist e-mail for his one Naruto fic.

Jeffrey responds by telling them, " It is the opinion of us and our lawyers that you are a bunch of morons, and that you should please go sodomize yourself with something very big. "

He continues to mock them in his responses to their missives. "Perhaps you should do more research. Seriously, I thought you guys were professionals. You guys get paid to be thorough but that doesn't seem to be the case. First off, the donation button was put on my page LONG before I started so-called 'infringing' upon your copyrights to Naruto by writing a fic that has Naruto in it. Also, have you even bothered to check if my donation buttons still work? Didja bother to make sure that my paypal account is even active? Well, it isn't. Bwahahahahahaha! Just because I have a paypal button, that doesn't mean that the account is active."

I was going to ask why Viz was targetting him and wondering if this meant they were going after other fanfics, till I saw them mention the donations thing.

Wong got awfully pissy there, didn't he? XD

And apparently this might be an April Fool's joke.

Oh man. I know this guy. I didn't know he was still around; that scares me. To be honest I think this is a big-ass hoax, but I can't tell if it's on him or if it's by him. O_o How big of a moron does one have to be, exactly, to flagrantly defy lawyers?

I'm always massively, extremely amused when a person makes a huge rant and mockery out of people for misusing "you're/your" or its ilk and then turns around and shows off their own grammar mistakes. Yeah. ^_^;;

This has GOT to be a hoax. Having worked in copyright law, no self respecting law firm would send a badly worded generic cease and desist email, it would have been a physical letter sent to his home address with specifics from the get go.

I definitely call hoax.

So I was bored enough to check out this guy's website, and uh...that no-piracy@ShoProEntertainmentInc.net email address? Totally fake. The domain ShoProEntertainmentInc is not even registered, according to whois.com. I smell a hoax.

I call hoax or someone is playing a prank on him. I noticed that he doesn't mind telling ShoPro/VIZ off but tells everyone else not to email them on his behalf. Based on his letters, he shouldn't be that worried unless the whole thing is a hoax. Also, it's not like ShoPro/VIZ has never been harassed by rabid elitist fans before. And now they just got Naruto. I bet they get a lot of funny emails to read.

No, if it was real that would make sense. Him being rude in return to their e-mails would be one thing, other people harrassing the company would be quite another... Although unless he urged them to do so, I doubt he could be held responsible...

An FYI update on this (since I have nothing better to do with my time) - the latest news Wong has posted is that he has a friend (name conveniently deleted) who works for FF.net, and according to said friend FF.net has received the same letter and is not in a position to tell lawyers to sodomize themselves, so all their Naruto fics will be removed by April 2nd.

Especially interesting is that it's apparently ONLY Naruto fics that will be going down; FF.net has no news whatsoever on the subject; and ShoPro's website (http://www.shopro-entertainment.com/) doesn't list Naruto as a big "property" but *does* list Inuyasha and various other popular series that I'd expect would get the fanfic axe.

Of course April 2nd is an interesting date to pick for fic deletion. Makes ya wonder. ;P

On March 31st, his page is replaced by one of those MPAA notices. Right. And then highlight the entire page and see that yes, this is nothing more than a prolonged April Fool's joke. A very bad one, IMO.

I was actually just posting to say that, but I'll add to the splooge: he now claims that if you DON'T HIGHLIGHT THE INVISIBLE TEXT, IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT FOR BEING A FUCKTARD.
