As far as I can tell, the Cliff's Notes goes like this:

snuh applies for one of those dumb "nonungly" communities and doesn't make it in.
S/he takes offense to the community rules and feels s/he's been the subject of a personal attack of sorts.
S/he comes running to u_make_lj_suck saying "See? This is a prime example of someone who makes LJ suck!"
The mod and his friends come to defend themselves, and the wank goes round an' round.

The annoying thing was that as far as I could tell, Snuf wasn't whining that s/he'd been rejected from the community - there was no sob story. S/he was pointing out that the thread that resulted from his/her post was damn funny and made EVERYONE look like jackasses, which is a perfectly legitamate thing to post in u_make_lj_suck.

I have no idea why this spawned a billion rapid "you're a bitter ugly person" replies.

As far as I could see, Snuh *wasn't* ugly. O_o Although, seriously, the Gay Gadget guy was obviously, well, one of the 'trendy-gays', as I like to call 'em *you know, only there for the club scene?*, was self-absorbed as all hell, and wasn't all that good-looking. Neither was his little co-hort with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. O_O

GAWD, reading this made me want to do *so* many bitchy things to those people, including, but not limited to:
-joining one of their idiotic rating communities just to *laugh* at them all and tell them to go to hell
-post to u_make_lj_suck and tell little Miss SugarPuss that *WE* are the ones talking about her, and that she'd sure as *hell* love *us* rejecting her
-tell every single fucking one of the nonuglies people that they were ugly assholes, and that they weren't that good-looking, either
-ask the guy with the Cookie Monster icon what he thought of *me* ^^
-post *at several points* to SugarPuss and tell her she's a flaming bitch and needs to get over her conceited self
-post to Gay Gadget and tell him he needs to wash his fucking hair and trade that godsawful nosering of his in for something more attractive and trendy

But I didn't want those asshats following me to my *own* LJ. ^_~ Someone should alert them to their having been wanked so they can see this. What lovely people!

Seriously. It's all about the camp an the ravertwinks anymore. Gay people are vicious, especially the clubbers (I admit to being an avid Britney-loving club scener :P), and frankly, he just doesn't cut it. It baffles me what criteria these people use, sometimes.

And for the record, I'm the only flaming bitch around here, man.

As for snuh, I'm definitely on hir side, in the argument, but I still think she/he/it is fucking insane. (See adamant discussion about my Shanghai Noon icon).

I *saw* that. ^^ I couldn't figure out *what* she was smoking on the icon debate. O_o I mean... surely to Gawd you'd know what your icon was from? *although, in one case, I'd seen one girl who didn't, and wanted to argue with me about it... and send her friends to argue about it... and so on, and so forth...*

Yeah, I'm really disappointed with the younger gays who think it's all about clubs and appearance. I'm acquainted with one at work who has *no**other**interests*, except being gay. It really bugs me, too, when he starts putting 'rainbow colors' on everything, but thinks that hot pink, neon green, and day-glo orange are rainbow colors. X_x *I'm a chick, by the way - it's the shallowness that bugs me, and the fact that since I'm bi, he expects me to be just as shallow*

Trust me, I live in a Navy town - I *know* what you're talking about. ^^ Half the damned cars in this town have something rainbow slapped onto the windows or bumper!

As for me, being 'not straight' is just something that managed to wind up being part of my personality. It doesn't even rank as high on my list of priorities as 'fanfiction writer', if that's any indication. *laughing*

d00d, we're the same age! :D *looks @ your info* I'm only about a month older, though.

Though it's not strange of you to say this at all - my two best friends IRL are about the same age as us (one is a year older, the other is a year younger), and they're already kinda tired with some of the more annoying/creepier tendencies of the "gay scene." And they wholly admit to having their shallow and materialistic sides as well - hell, I'm pretty sure we all do.

Er, no point to this post, just wanted to tell you that you're not alone in thinking that way. ^_^;

I'm such a newbie. I didn't even know such communities existed, much less that their standards of beauty were so fucked up.

I'm almost tempted to start up a "nonindies" community that gives the thumbs down to photos that use b&w, odd lighting camera angles, color rebalancing, and other compositional tricks to obsure the fact that their subjects look like almost every other human being in the First World.
