Ah, Gaia Online. Wank for our amusement. You know you wanna.

So this month's donation items were a Butterfly Mantilla or an Arachnid Chestplate (with the variations thereof.) And as usual, someone's complaining. Shaoli posts in Q&F to say the butterfly wings look like shit. And she should know, cause she's a "pixel artist". According to her, they look stuck on and don't follow the avatar body line.

Wank starts, including a post from an Admin holding up his support for the wings and all sorts of fawning.

I'm tempted to go "my wings are pastede on yey!"

I belong to Gaia. I didn't donate. I saw the wings. They weren't that bad. And I read through the thread. I thought Gaia was a PG-13 site?

It depends on the mod. They're trying to draw the line at outright personal attacks -- "Cat, you are such a fucking bitch!" type of thing. Still, I have to wonder if I'd get warned if I told some kid in one of the "Oral sex isn't sex" threads that pop up now and then he should call his best friend's dad a cocksucker and see what happens. :P

Okay, I feel a little embarrassed for this one- usually I'm good at finding this stuff out on my own. But what exactly is Gaia Online? Is it simply a forum system, or is there a game that goes along with it? I see that you earn gold and buy stuff. I read the FAQ, checked out the website and I'm still not really clear on the concept. It looks very cute, but I am not really into message boards.

It markets itself (if that's the right phrase) as a roleplaying forum, but aside from the user-organised RPGs in one section of the forums, the main 'role-playing' aspect is dressing up your avatar.

Although with that said, there are NPC characaters and quite an involved plot, but that only usually appears around specific events (e.g. Christmas, Easter, Halloween, April Fool's day, Gaia's anniversary...)

So in conclusion... mostly a forum. Filled with horny n00bs and elitist asshats.
